Attaining excellence doesn’t have to be unsettling but it will take committed focus and a desire to parent well according to God’s grace and for His glory. Book Mama I m Here

Download or read book Mama I m Here written by Judy Garwood and published by FriesenPress. This book was released on 2010-10 with total page 74 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dear Reader, My Mom died in 1993. Not much was known about Alzheimer's at the time and we definitely didn't have the Alzheimer's drugs we do today. In fact, medical opinion was that the only way to know if someone actually died of Alzheimer's was to biopsy their brain after they died. Now they can detect the brain plaque that indicates Alzheimer's at an early stage. I'm a child of a Mom who had Alzheimer's. Every day I think about it. There's a blood test you can take to determine if you will get Alzheimer's, but I really don't want to know ahead of time. I'd rather it be like a surprise party and everyone jumps up at once. I don't want to think about it for years before it happens. I don't want to wonder if I should go out of the house with a note pinned to my blouse giving my name, address, phone number and to whom I belong. What if you don't belong to anyone?I pray they find something to stop Alzheimer's in its horrible progression. I don't care if by then I have forgotten where my keys are...I can sew them to my purse. What I care about is bigger than that. I'm a writer, I worry that I won't remember what words are. I'm an actor, I worry that I won't understand my lines. I'm a director, I worry that I won't remember how to direct. I'm a mother, I worry that I won't know my children. I'm a teacher, I worry that I will forget how to teach. I'm a school bus driver, I worry that I will forget where I am and how to get back. I'm every man, I'm every woman. Every night before I go to bed I pray that Alzheimer's will never happen to me.I moved back home to take care of my Mom who had Alzheimer's and my Dad who had severe Dementia. I didn't just write Mama, I'm Here, I lived it. Caretakers suffer along with the ones they love.-Judy Garwood

Book Welcome Home Mama and Boris

Download or read book Welcome Home Mama and Boris written by Carey Neesley and published by Penguin. This book was released on 2013-08-29 with total page 172 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Growing up in the well-heeled Detroit suburb of Grosse Pointe, Michigan, Carey Neesley always thought she and her younger brother, Peter, would never be separated. The children of divorced parents and outcasts in their neighborhood, Carey and Peter supported, loved, and encouraged each other when it seemed no one else cared. It was a bond that grew through the years, and one that made Peter’s eventual decision to enlist in the Army all the more difficult for Carey. With Peter having stepped up to help her raise her young son, Carey was closer than ever to her brother, and the thought of him serving far from home was painful. While stationed in Iraq, Peter befriended a stray dog and her four puppies, only to watch three of the young pups die in the warzone. With only two surviving dogs—Mama and Boris—Peter became determined to save the strays. Carey helped her brother with his mission, but everything changed on Christmas Day in 2007 when word arrived at the Neesley household that Peter had been killed. Amidst the grief of coming to terms with her brother’s death and the turmoil of trying to plan his funeral, Carey devoted herself to bringing Peter’s dogs home to the U.S. It was the final honor she could pay to her brother and a way of keeping a piece of him with her. With the help of an unlikely network of heroes, including an animal rescue organization in Utah, a civilian airline, an Iraqi family, and a private security contractor with military connections, Mama and Boris mad the journey form the streets of Baghdad to Carey’s suburban house. Carey’s mission garnered widespread attention and requests from other soldiers for help in bringing home dogs they had become attached to on deployment, and she continues to work with organizations dedicated to bringing home wartime strays.

Book Those Who Can t Teach

Download or read book Those Who Can t Teach written by Haresh Sharma and published by Epigram Books. This book was released on with total page 85 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Those Who Can’t, Teach turns the spotlight on the madcap lives of teachers and students in a typical secondary school in Singapore. As the teachers struggle daily to nurture and groom, the students prefer to hang out and “chillax”. With upskirting and Facebooking, griping and politicking, school takes on a whole new meaning as the colourful characters struggle to prove that those who can, teach. Written by Singapore’s most prolific playwright Haresh Sharma, Those Who Can’t, Teach was first staged by The Necessary Stage in 1990 to critical acclaim. Twenty years later, Sharma revisits this classic to revitalise it for the Singapore Arts Festival 2010, transforming it into a powerful portrayal of the pressures and challenges facing teachers (and students) in schools in the 21st century.
