Book Re Gained in Translation Volume 1 2

Download or read book Re Gained in Translation Volume 1 2 written by Sabine Dievenkorn and published by Frank & Timme GmbH. This book was released on 2024-02-26 with total page 1016 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Volume 1: Translations of the Bible take place in the midst of tension between politics, ideology and power. With the theological authority of the book as God’s Word, not focusing on the process of translating is stating the obvious. Inclinations, fluency and zeitgeist play as serious a role as translators’ person, faith and worldview, as do their vocabulary, poetics and linguistic capacity. History has seen countless retranslations of the Bible. What are the considerations according to which Biblical retranslations are being produced in current, 21st century, contexts? From retranslations of the Hebrew Bible to those of the Old and New Testaments, to mutual influences of Christian and Jewish translational traditions – the papers collected here all deal with the question of what is to be [re]gained with the production of a new translation where, at times, many a previous one has already existed. Volume 2: Times are changing, and with them, the norms and notions of correctness. Despite a wide-spread belief that the Bible, as a “sacred original,” only allows one translation, if any, new translations are constantly produced and published for all kinds of audiences and purposes. The various paradigms marked by the theological, political, and historical correctness of the time, group, and identity and bound to certain ethics and axiomatic norms are reflected in almost every current translation project. Like its predecessor, the current volume brings together scholars working at the intersection of Translation Studies, Bible Studies, and Theology, all of which share a special point of interest concerning the status of the Scriptures as texts fundamentally based on the act of translation and its recurring character. It aims to breathe new life into Bible translation studies, unlock new perspectives and vistas of the field, and present a bigger picture of how Bible [re]translation works in society today.

Book excerpt: NATIONAL BESTSELLER • Pope Francis illuminates the Lord’s Prayer, the most important prayer in all of Christianity, offering readers a guide to living a life of meaning, purpose and strength. In conversation with Father Marco Pozza, a theologian and prison chaplain in Padua, Italy, Pope Francis offers unprecedented insight into Jesus’s most profound words, as he explores the importance of embracing social justice, benevolence, and forgiveness in our hearts and minds. Looking to address the concerns and hopes of today’s men and women, Our Father: Reflections on the Lord’s Prayer is a guide to living a life full of meaning, purpose, and strength. “We need courage to pray the Our Father,” writes Pope Francis, “to truly believe that God is the Father who accompanies us, forgives us, gives us bread, is attentive to all that we ask, clothes us even better than the flowers of the field. To believe is a big risk.” Challenging this doubt and fear, he issues a call to “dare . . . help oneanother to dare.” With excerpts from some of the Pontiff’s most cherished teachings, this beautiful work offers words of encouragement and inspiration for all who are seeking hope and direction in our often tumultuous world.

Book excerpt: About the Book The Satanic Seal is a sweeping romantic epic that spans nearly 274 years. It traces the lives of members of many families over the course of several generations, in Scotland, Mesopotamia, India, and America. The members of these families endure mystery deaths and personal tragedies. Emma, the main character had struggled with God ever since she was a little girl, thinking that God was depriving her from being happy. Growing up in the blustery coastal city of Dundee, Scotland, Emma always felt a dark cloud hanging over her. Now an adult, the dark cloud seems to grow, swallowing up any chance she has with Joseph, the man she loves. Following multiple deaths of those closest to her, Emma spends her time analyzing and calculating who would die next! Against this backdrop of emotional turmoil, Emma must cope with the miseries, and dramatic incidents, and she reaches a point where she is ready to die herself, if she could not solve the mystery of her losses. About the Author Aida Francis began writing at an early age, and her passion has never stopped. She started The Satanic Seal many years ago but life’ challenges did not allow her to finish it until summer 2023. Francis published a remarkable poetry book, The River of Time, in 2022, portraying an intense emotion experienced throughout a lifetime, and the struggles that people face as they consider their remaining time on earth. Francis lived in Washington state prior to relocating to California, where she has now lived for several years. In 2015 she earned her doctoral degree in education.

Book excerpt: Following up his international best- selling book, An Exorcist Tells His Story, Fr. Gabriele Amorth, the renowned chief exorcist of Rome, expands on some of the key topics of his previous book, covering important details about demonic or occult issues. He uses concrete examples from his own experiences and those of other exorcists to illustrate and substantiate his points. Since satanic sects, occultism, s?ances, fortune-tellers and astrologers are so widespread today, Father Amorth asks the question why is it so difficult today to find an exorcist, or a priest who is an expert in this field? The example and the teaching of Christ is very clear, as is the tradition of the Church. But today's Catholics are often misinformed. Exorcisms are reserved for appointed priests, while all believers can make prayers of liberation. What is the difference? What norms must be followed? What problems are still open and unresolved in this field? The new book by Father Amorth answers these and many other questions, supporting his discourse with a rich exposition of recent facts. A valuable, practical and instructive manual for priests and lay people, on how to help many who are suffering.
