Download or read book Introduction la m thode de la science politique written by François Dieu and published by Editions L'Harmattan. This book was released on 2021-06-04 with total page 173 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
Download or read book The Study of Politics written by M. Duverger and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 319 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: If the study of politics is to be rewarding both intellectually and practically it must. by definition. concern itself with the great issues which arise in the real world and with the fundamental arguments which occur about their nature and the possible solutions to them. Abstract political philosophy which is not informed by the experi ence of practice will become sterile. A study of constitutions and the machinery of government can become dry-as-dust and hence boring unless the underlying principles are analysed and grasped. But theo ries of political change divorced from an understanding of consti tutions and institutions will degenerate into mere phrase-mongering. Attempts to apply the techniques of the natural sciences to politics will lead to model building for its own sake and thence to arid and barren intellectualism unless it is understood that it is impossible to quantify the intangible. Indeed. anyone-sided approach to politics and consequent failure to grasp the essential wholeness of the sub ject is bound to end in disaster. The study of politics is a study of changing human relationships in dynamic societies. Thus it involves. since the present and hence the future are shaped in part by the past. an appreciation of history.

Download or read book Political Theory written by Arnold Brecht and published by Princeton University Press. This book was released on 2015-12-08 with total page 630 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this distinguished work Arnold Brecht, who served under more than a dozen German Chancellors and whose work in defense of democracy received recognition by the Adenauer government in 1953, surveys the philosophical and scientific foundations of political theory in the twentieth century. His wide-ranging treatise sweeps over the entire scope of this century's contributions, including the philosophical, juridical, scientific, sociological, methodological, and historical. The book is a pioneering effort toward an integrated presentation, a first attempt to offer a comprehensive modern political theory. The aim is both a systematic presentation and a full description of the recent genesis of thought. The pertinent teachings of representative writers-some from the past (from Hume and Kant to Darwin, Mill, and Marx) and most of the present century (from Peirce, James, Simmel, and Weber to Husserl, Dewey, Lasswell, Northrop, and Fuller) are analyzed. Dr. Brecht incorporates, chapter by chapter, his own contributions. Social scientists, philosophers, lawyers, and students of religion will find it a challenging guide, written with penetrating clarity and rich in fruitful suggestions. Originally published in 1959. This book was released on 2017-01-23 with total page 19 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With the myriad of challenges facing the modern world and the responsibility to urgently address these issues, research centers have an increasingly important role to play. In general, research centers are specialized institutions that rely on the professional and intellectual expertise of academics in the proposal and setting of policies. Hence, these institutions are the driving forces that reap such expertise for decision makers in the name of public service. As highlighted in this volume, modern governments must therefore seek to recruit the top specialists in order to proficiently and accurately assess the options and situations at hand and to formulate policies accordingly. This collection of scholarly papers provides a comprehensive overview of some of the issues surrounding the functions of research centers in the current world. One of these is how research centers can assist Gulf countries in promoting security in the region. With the continued threats of terrorism, sectarianism and counterinsurgency, the book suggests how these issues can be analyzed, in order to better understand their intricate nature, and then be countered through balanced efforts that ensure that these endeavors do not aggravate the problems. The book also examines the work of research centers in various countries and their invaluable efforts to inform decision makers and grasp the agendas, challenges and fundamental aspects of an issue at hand, while addressing geopolitical issues and uncovering the most pertinent data amidst an influx of information. Finally, the book looks at the present and future of research centers in Arab countries, and suggests methods of work to rid the negative image of the future in the Arab mind, while helping reform the education, scientific research and the academic systems.
