Book Life After Birth

Download or read book Life After Birth written by Summer Owens and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2010-07-22 with total page 236 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Going to school, hanging out with her friends, and being a normal teenager was all Summer knew until her fifteenth birthday changed her life forever. Nine months later, she was a mother and didn't even know the father of her baby. Overcoming embarrassment and depression, she made the decision to go on with her life and pursue the dreams she had before taking on the responsibilities of motherhood. In Life After Birth, Owens depicts the real-life struggles she faced as a teenage mother in hopes that her transparency will encourage and inspire other teenage and single mothers. By sharing how she managed to give her son the best childhood possible while at the same time finishing high school, combating emotional issues, graduating from college with honors, building a career and buying a house all as a young, single mother, she demonstrates that life doesnt have to end when a child is born to a teenager.

Book Random Matrices and the Six Vertex Model

Download or read book Random Matrices and the Six Vertex Model written by Pavel Bleher and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2013-12-04 with total page 237 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a detailed description of the Riemann-Hilbert approach (RH approach) to the asymptotic analysis of both continuous and discrete orthogonal polynomials, and applications to random matrix models as well as to the six-vertex model. The RH approach was an important ingredient in the proofs of universality in unitary matrix models. This book gives an introduction to the unitary matrix models and discusses bulk and edge universality. The six-vertex model is an exactly solvable two-dimensional model in statistical physics, and thanks to the Izergin-Korepin formula for the model with domain wall boundary conditions, its partition function matches that of a unitary matrix model with nonpolynomial interaction. The authors introduce in this book the six-vertex model and include a proof of the Izergin-Korepin formula. Using the RH approach, they explicitly calculate the leading and subleading terms in the thermodynamic asymptotic behavior of the partition function of the six-vertex model with domain wall boundary conditions in all the three phases: disordered, ferroelectric, and antiferroelectric. Titles in this series are co-published with the Centre de Recherches Mathématiques.

Book Exploring Quantum Foundations with Single Photons

Download or read book Exploring Quantum Foundations with Single Photons written by Martin Ringbauer and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-08-21 with total page 223 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This thesis uses high-precision single-photon experiments to shed new light on the role of reality, causality, and uncertainty in quantum mechanics. It provides a comprehensive introduction to the current understanding of quantum foundations and details three influential experiments that significantly advance our understanding of three core aspects of this problem. The first experiment demonstrates that the quantum wavefunction is part of objective reality, if there is any such reality in our world. The second experiment shows that quantum correlations cannot be explained in terms of cause and effect, even when considering superluminal influences between measurement outcomes. The final experiment in this thesis demonstrates a novel uncertainty relation for joint quantum measurements, where the textbook relation does not apply.

Book Alice and Bob Meet Banach

Download or read book Alice and Bob Meet Banach written by Guillaume Aubrun and published by American Mathematical Society. This book was released on 2024-07-29 with total page 439 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The quest to build a quantum computer is arguably one of the major scientific and technological challenges of the twenty-first century, and quantum information theory (QIT) provides the mathematical framework for that quest. Over the last dozen or so years, it has become clear that quantum information theory is closely linked to geometric functional analysis (Banach space theory, operator spaces, high-dimensional probability), a field also known as asymptotic geometric analysis (AGA). In a nutshell, asymptotic geometric analysis investigates quantitative properties of convex sets, or other geometric structures, and their approximate symmetries as the dimension becomes large. This makes it especially relevant to quantum theory, where systems consisting of just a few particles naturally lead to models whose dimension is in the thousands, or even in the billions. Alice and Bob Meet Banach is aimed at multiple audiences connected through their interest in the interface of QIT and AGA: at quantum information researchers who want to learn AGA or apply its tools; at mathematicians interested in learning QIT, or at least the part of QIT that is relevant to functional analysis/convex geometry/random matrix theory and related areas; and at beginning researchers in either field. Moreover, this user-friendly book contains numerous tables and explicit estimates, with reasonable constants when possible, which make it a useful reference even for established mathematicians generally familiar with the subject.

Book System Identification Advances and Case Studies

Download or read book System Identification Advances and Case Studies written by and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 1977-02-21 with total page 606 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this book, we study theoretical and practical aspects of computing methods for mathematical modelling of nonlinear systems. A number of computing techniques are considered, such as methods of operator approximation with any given accuracy; operator interpolation techniques including a non-Lagrange interpolation; methods of system representation subject to constraints associated with concepts of causality, memory and stationarity; methods of system representation with an accuracy that is the best within a given class of models; methods of covariance matrix estimation;methods for low-rank matrix approximations; hybrid methods based on a combination of iterative procedures and best operator approximation; andmethods for information compression and filtering under condition that a filter model should satisfy restrictions associated with causality and different types of memory. As a result, the book represents a blend of new methods in general computational analysis, and specific, but also generic, techniques for study of systems theory ant its particularbranches, such as optimal filtering and information compression.- Best operator approximation,- Non-Lagrange interpolation,- Generic Karhunen-Loeve transform- Generalised low-rank matrix approximation- Optimal data compression- Optimal nonlinear filtering

Book Grassmann and Stiefel Varieties over Composition Algebras

Download or read book Grassmann and Stiefel Varieties over Composition Algebras written by Marek Golasiński and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-09-17 with total page 342 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This monograph deals with matrix manifolds, i.e., manifolds for which there is a natural representation of their elements as matrix arrays. Classical matrix manifolds (Stiefel, Grassmann and flag manifolds) are studied in a more general setting. It provides tools to investigate matrix varieties over Pythagorean formally real fields. The presentation of the book is reasonably self-contained. It contains a number of nontrivial results on matrix manifolds useful for people working not only in differential geometry and Riemannian geometry but in other areas of mathematics as well. It is also designed to be readable by a graduate student who has taken introductory courses in algebraic and differential geometry.
