Book The Lakes Handbook

Download or read book The Lakes Handbook written by Patrick O'Sullivan and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2008-04-15 with total page 568 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Continuing concern about water supply and quality, ecosystem sustainability and restoration demands that the modern approach to the management of lakes and reservoirs should be based on a sound understanding of the application of the scientific and ecological principles that underlie freshwater processes. The Lakes Handbook provides an up-to-date overview of the application of ecologically sound approaches, methods and tools using experience gained around the world for an understanding of lakes and their management. Volume one of the Handbook addresses the physical and biological aspects of lakes pertinent to lake management, emphasising those aspects particularly relevant to large, still bodies of water. Volume two then considers lake management, with particular emphasis on sustainability, restoration and rehabilitation. This handbook will be invaluable to ecologists, environmental scientists, physical geographers and hydrologists involved in limnological research, as well as advanced undergraduate and graduate students looking for authoritative reviews of the key areas of limnological study.

Book Computational Techniques for Multiphase Flows

Download or read book Computational Techniques for Multiphase Flows written by Guan Heng Yeoh and published by Butterworth-Heinemann. This book was released on 2019-02-27 with total page 642 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Computational Techniques for Multiphase Flows, Second Edition, provides the latest research and theories covering the most popular multiphase flows The book begins with an overview of the state-of-the-art techniques for multiple numerical methods in handling multiphase flow, compares them, and finally highlights their strengths and weaknesses. In addition, it covers more straightforward, conventional theories and governing equations in early chapters, moving on to the more modern and complex computational models and tools later in the book. It is therefore accessible to those who may be new to the subject while also featuring topics of interest to the more experienced researcher. Mixed or multiphase flows of solid/liquid or solid/gas are commonly found in many industrial fields, and their behavior is complex and difficult to predict in many cases. The use of computational fluid dynamics (CFD) has emerged as a powerful tool for understanding fluid mechanics in multiphase reactors, which are widely used in the chemical, petroleum, mining, food, automotive, energy, aerospace and pharmaceutical industries. This revised edition is an ideal reference for scientists, MSc students and chemical and mechanical engineers in these areas. Includes updated chapters in addition to a brand-new section on granular flows. Features novel solution methods for multiphase flow, along with recent case studies. Explains how and when to use the featured technique and how to interpret the results and apply them to improving applications.

Book The Theory of the Moir Phenomenon

Download or read book The Theory of the Moir Phenomenon written by Isaac Amidror and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2009-03-15 with total page 545 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since the first edition of this book was published several new developments have been made in the field of the moiré theory. The most important of these concern new results that have recently been obtained on moiré effects between correlated aperiodic (or random) structures, a subject that was completely absent in the first edition, and which appears now for the first time in a second, separate volume. This also explains the change in the title of the present volume, which now includes the subtitle “Volume I: Periodic Layers”. This subtitle has been added to clearly distinguish the present volume from its new companion, which is subtitled “Volume II: Aperiodic Layers”. It should be noted, however, that the new subtitle of the present volume may be somewhat misleading, since this book also treats (in Chapters 10 and 11) moiré effects between repetitive layers, which are, in fact, geometric transformations of periodic layers, that are generally no longer periodic in themselves. The most suitable subtitle for the present volume would therefore have been “Periodic or Repetitive Layers”, but in the end we have decided on the shorter version.

Book Ernst Zermelo Collected Works Gesammelte Werke II

Download or read book Ernst Zermelo Collected Works Gesammelte Werke II written by Ernst Zermelo and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-08-15 with total page 803 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ernst Zermelo (1871-1953) is regarded as the founder of axiomatic set theory and is best-known for the first formulation of the axiom of choice. However, his papers also include pioneering work in applied mathematics and mathematical physics. This edition of his collected papers consists of two volumes. The present Volume II covers Ernst Zermelo’s work on the calculus of variations, applied mathematics, and physics. The papers are each presented in their original language together with an English translation, the versions facing each other on opposite pages. Each paper or coherent group of papers is preceded by an introductory note provided by an acknowledged expert in the field who comments on the historical background, motivation, accomplishments, and influence.

Book Verification in Economics and History

Download or read book Verification in Economics and History written by Omar F. Hamouda and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2012-11-12 with total page 197 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Attitudes and methods derived from the hard sciences have become increasingly commonplace in the human and social sciences. Whilst this 'scientifization' process has undoubtedly fostered the growth of knowledge within history and economics, these are disciplines where verification, as practised in the pure sciences, is not appropriate. This book, first published in 1991, argues constructively for a new interpretation of scientific verification within economics and history.
