Book Jean Claude Colin

Download or read book Jean Claude Colin written by Justin Taylor and published by ATF Press. This book was released on 2018-10-01 with total page 1162 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 1830, at the age of forty, Jean-Claude Colin accepted the call of his colleagues to take charge of the Society of Mary (Marists). He had joined this project as a seminarian in Lyons, France, in 1816, along with Marcellin Champagnat, future founder of the Marist teaching brothers. Since ordination, he had been an assistant priest at Cerdon (photo below), preached revival missions in rural districts and been principal of a high school-seminary. Colin always insisted that he was only a temporary superior until someone more capable could take over. Yet, by the time he resigned in 1854, he had obtained papal approval of the priests' branch, established the Society firmly in France, especially in education, and sent fifteen expeditions of missionary priests and brothers to the remote and scattered islands of the southwest Pacific. There they planted the Catholic Church in New Zealand, Wallis and Futuna, Tonga, Samoa, Fiji and New Caledonia. Between his resignation and his death in 1875, Colin wrote Constitutions for the priests and brothers of the Society of Mary and for the Marist sisters. He also left a rich spiritual teaching. For this achievement, the Society regards him, despite his reluctance, as its Founder.

Book What Is Redemption How Christ s Suffering Saves Us

Download or read book What Is Redemption How Christ s Suffering Saves Us written by Philippe de la Trinite and published by Emmaus Road Publishing. This book was released on 2021-05-07 with total page 149 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For God so loved the world that he gave his only-begotten Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. (John 3:16) The Crucifixion of Jesus Christ is central to the Catholic Faith. But how does the murder of the eternal Son of God by human beings lead to their redemption, not further damnation? During the sixteenth century, as Protestants rejected Catholic doctrine, a new answer to this question was proposed: on the Cross, God the Father subjected His divine Son to the wrath and retribution sinful humanity justly deserved. Having punished His Son in the place of sinners and having exhausted His pent-up anger, the Father could then turn to humanity in love and mercy. This theory—known as “penal substitutionary atonement”—caught on in many Catholic circles and is often the popular understanding of the Cross. Thank God for What Is Redemption? by Philippe de la Trinité, a classic now back in print. This book shows the many fallacies in the penal substitutionary theory of redemption. But that’s not all. Trinité replaces this mistaken theory with the true Catholic doctrine. In dialogue with the saints and doctors of the Church, chiefly St. Thomas Aquinas, he shows why St. John in his Gospel said it was for love—not for wrath—that God sent His only-begotten Son. Carefully distinguishing the key concepts in the doctrine of redemption, he explains the difference between saying that Christ made satisfaction for the sins of the world and saying that Christ suffered the punishment due to every sin. The Cross is not an oppression, but an exaltation—a triumph of divine love.

Book The Chinese Face of Jesus Christ

Download or read book The Chinese Face of Jesus Christ written by Roman Malek and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-07-05 with total page 803 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume provides an annotated bibliography of the Western and Chinese literature on Jesus Christ in China. It is a sequel to the interdisciplinary collection on the manifold faces and images of Jesus throughout Chinese history, from the Tang dynasty (618?907) to the present time. The present bibliography broadens and deepens the above-mentioned subject matter, and also points out aspects which have been addressed in the contributions and anthologies of the previous volumes of The Chinese Face of Jesus Christ, but which have not been treated thoroughly. Another aim of this bibliography is to initiate and enable further research, particularly in China. It includes bibliographical data from the beginning of the introduction of Christianity to China until the year 2013, occasionally also until 2014. A list of ?Key References? enables the reader to identify important works on main topics related to Jesus Christ in China. Some examples of book covers and title pages are included in the section of ?Illustrations.?Other volumes of the collection The Chinese Face of Jesus Christ are in preparation: Vol. 3c will present longer quotations from the sources listed in the present bibliography, Vol. 4b will contain a general index with glossary, and Vol. 5 will deal with the iconography of Jesus Christ in China.

Book Marc Antoine Charpentier

Download or read book Marc Antoine Charpentier written by Catherine Cessac and published by . This book was released on 1995 with total page 580 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Although Charpentier left little trace of his worldly existence, his music fortunately has been preserved nearly in its entirety. This book is the first comprehensive study of his approximately 550 compositions, including a number of important pieces that remain relatively unknown. A discussion of the composer's theoretical writings, a complete catalog of Charpentier's works, and an extensive bibliography are all given here. While Charpentier's life and personality are still shrouded in mystery, our knowledge about him has nevertheless increased considerably over the past few years, and it will certainly continue to be enriched by new discoveries in the future. His music, for the most part still unknown both on disc and in concert, is waiting for performers to reveal all its facets, and for an ever-growing public finally to discover Charpentier as one of France's most remarkable composers.
