Book Moon Phase Whitetail Hunting

Download or read book Moon Phase Whitetail Hunting written by Jeff Murray and published by Woods N' Water, Inc.. This book was released on 2001 with total page 200 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: No longer a guarded secret, hunting whitetails using a lunar strategy is one of the most effective tactics employed by successful trophy hunters. The father of hunting deer by the moon, the man who started it all, Jeff Murray, shares his best kept secrets and insights on this fascinating aspect of white-tailed deer hunting and tells you how to make it work for you. From game-tracking experts and professional biologists to hunting club managers, outfitters and guides, great hunters know that deer are inextricably linked to the lunar cycle. In his latest book on the subject, Murray teaches how to predict peak rutting activity and how to plan to be afield when big bucks are moving. Other topics include tactics to zone in on deer in transition areas and when, according to moon phase, deer will be at the field's edge and when they won't! This book also covers the different lunar cycles and how the moon triggers the rut activity. Chapters include Does the Moon Trigger the Rut? Master Mast; Timing Food Sources; Zoned Out; Timing the Transition Zone; Wallhanger Whereabouts; The Moon is Unique and Influential; and Secret Scent.

Book Living the Lunar Calendar

Download or read book Living the Lunar Calendar written by Wayne Horowitz and published by Oxbow Books Limited. This book was released on 2012 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Lunar calendars suffer from an inherent uncertainty in the length of each month and the number of months in the year. Variable atmospheric conditions, weather and the acuity of the eye of an observer mean that the first sighting of the new moon crescent can never be known in advance. Calendars which rely on such observations to define the beginning of a new month therefore suffer from this lack of certainty as to whether a month will begin on a given day or the next. The papers in this volume address the question of how ancient and medieval societies lived with the uncertainties of a lunar calendar. How did lack of foreknowledge of the beginning of the month impact upon administration, the planning of festivals, and historical record keeping? Did societies replace the observation of the new moon crescent with schematic calendars or calendars based upon astronomical calculations and what were the ideological and practical consequences of such a change? The contributors to this volume address these topics from the perspectives of a variety of Ancient Near Eastern, Jewish, Ancient and Medieval European, Asian and American cultures.

Book A Supplement to the Tuckerman Tables

Download or read book A Supplement to the Tuckerman Tables written by Michael A. Houlden and published by American Philosophical Society. This book was released on 1986 with total page 578 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a supplement to the planetary, lunar and solar tables produced by Bryant Tuckerman (1962, 1964). These tables have proved an invaluable aid to historians of astronomy. An important usage is the dating of ancient and medieval astronomical observations, but the tables also have wide application in determining the accuracy of early measurements and calculations. This supplementary volume owes its origin to the discovery by the authors of significant errors in Tuckerman's tabular positions of Mars. They made a comparison between Tuckerman's positions for the Sun and planets and those computed from an integrated ephemeris. Only in the case of the longitude of Mars were errors found to be serious.

Book Sanskrit Astronomical Tables

Download or read book Sanskrit Astronomical Tables written by Clemency Montelle and published by Springer. This book was released on 2019-03-07 with total page 311 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This groundbreaking volume provides an up-to-date, accessible guide to Sanskrit astronomical tables and their analysis. It begins with an overview of Indian mathematical astronomy and its literature, including table texts, in the context of history of pre-modern astronomy. It then discusses the primary mathematical astronomy content of table texts and the attempted taxonomy of this genre before diving into the broad outlines of their representation in the Sanskrit scientific manuscript corpus. Finally, the authors survey the major categories of individual tables compiled in these texts, complete with brief analyses of some of the methods for constructing and using them, and then chronicle the evolution of the table-text genre and the impacts of its changing role on the discipline of Sanskrit jyotiṣa. There are also three appendices: one inventories all the identified individual works in the genre currently known to the authors; one provides reference information about the details of all the notational, calendric, astronomical, and other classification systems invoked in the study; and one serves as a glossary of the relevant Sanskrit terms.

Book Ancient Astronomical Observations and the Study of the Moon s Motion 1691 1757

Download or read book Ancient Astronomical Observations and the Study of the Moon s Motion 1691 1757 written by John M. Steele and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-02-17 with total page 169 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The discovery of a gradual acceleration in the moon’s mean motion by Edmond Halley in the last decade of the seventeenth century led to a revival of interest in reports of astronomical observations from antiquity. These observations provided the only means to study the moon’s ‘secular acceleration’, as this newly-discovered acceleration became known. This book contains the first detailed study of the use of ancient and medieval astronomical observations in order to investigate the moon’s secular acceleration from its discovery by Halley to the establishment of the magnitude of the acceleration by Richard Dunthorne, Tobias Mayer and Jérôme Lalande in the 1740s and 1750s. Making extensive use of previously unstudied manuscripts, this work shows how different astronomers used the same small body of preserved ancient observations in different ways in their work on the secular acceleration. In addition, this work looks at the wider context of the study of the moon’s secular acceleration, including its use in debates of biblical chronology, whether the heavens were made up of æther, and the use of astronomy in determining geographical longitude. It also discusses wider issues of the perceptions and knowledge of ancient and medieval astronomy in the early-modern period. This book will be of interest to historians of astronomy, astronomers and historians of the ancient world.
