Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Life in the northwest wilderness of Michigan during the lumberjack era makes an exciting and engaging story and who better to tell it than someone who actually lived there during this time. Mason Ray was a citizen in Leelanau County, Michigan from 1880 until 1922. She knew stalwart lumberjacks, the people that owned and ran the lumber mills, their neighbors, and the other strong-hearted citizens of the area and she describes them in her novel in vivid details. Her story follows the life of a man named Forrest Mann as he becomes part of the community and includes danger, deceit, intrigue, romance and love. The characters are believable and become like friends as the story unfolds. The local landmarks are real - the town (Agache is Glen Arbor on the shores of Lake Michigan); Muskrat Lake (is Glen Lake); the narrows bridge and the sand dunes. The language and terms are of that period (with a few tweaks).

Book A Dutch Heritage

Download or read book A Dutch Heritage written by Frank Rasky and published by Dundurn. This book was released on 1983-01-01 with total page 128 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Industry in the Wilderness by Frank Rasky is an account of the overcoming of natural elements in order to harvest the resource wealth of northwestern Ontario. It is part of the Dundurn Local History series. It is an oral history of lumberjacks, gold seekers, bush pilots, and early hydro men. Herein lies the major problem with the book. Rasky attempts to cover four important aspects of northwestern Ontario in only 128 pages. This impossible task is even further complicated by the fact that more than half of the book is devoted to pictures and diagrams ... The pictures and diagrams dominate the book to such an extent that one could ignore the text and still find a wealth of information about the topic. The diagrams of a paper mill, a gold mine, and a hydro-electric power plant could be a valuable teaching aid to students interested in those areas. The pictures are exceptionally good."--Umanitoba.ca/cm/cmarchive/vol12no5/industryinthewilderness.html.

Book Sonichu 0

    Book Details:
  • Author : C. C.
  • Publisher :
  • Release : 2005-03-24
  • ISBN : 9781699276853
  • Pages : 45 pages

Download or read book Sonichu 0 written by C. C. and published by . This book was released on 2005-03-24 with total page 45 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sonichu #0 is the first issue of Christian Weston Chandler's magnum opus. At this initial stage, the comic was almost entirely about Sonichu and Rosechu, although bits of Chris's life still managed to find their way in.The "hand-drawn premiere issue" is a special zero issue. In the comics industry, zero issues are used as either a sales-enhancing gimmick (Image Comics is a notable user of this) or a special preview of work that will not truly begin until issue #1. Given that it previews nothing, which one Chris was going for is probably the former, though given that it's not legally able to be sold, it fails even that. The comic consists of Sonichu's first three adventures. In "Sonichu's Origin", the core cast of the series is introduced as Sonichu and Rosechu are created. Then, in "Genesis of the Lovehogs", the two protagonists meet and immediately fall in love. Finally, in "Sonichu vs. Naitsirhc", our yellow hero does battle with his first real villain, who but foreshadows the challenges awaiting the hedgehogs in the following issue. Bonus material in Sonichu #0 includes various advertisements for imaginary Sonichu products, "classic" Sonichu comic strips drawn outside of the narrative of the main comic book, and the first "Sub-Episode".

Book Creating Theoretical Research Frameworks using Multiple Methods

Download or read book Creating Theoretical Research Frameworks using Multiple Methods written by Sergey V. Samoilenko and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2017-10-30 with total page 399 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: By now, it is commonly accepted that investments in information and communication technologies (ICTs) can facilitate macroeconomic growth in developed countries. Research standards in ICT for development (ICT4D) are high, and it is a basic expectation that a theoretically sound conceptual investigation should yield actionable results. An additional expectation is that an on-the-ground study conducted in each setting should add to the common body of knowledge based on theory. In other words, one is expected to make a connection between the world of concepts and the world of reality. Middle-range theories and frameworks could help connect the case studies with grand theories, by helping to create a theoretically sound and practically applicable research architecture of ICT4D. This book demonstrates how creative use of various data analysis methods (e.g., data mining [DM], data envelopment analysis [DEA], and structural equation modeling [SEM]) and conceptual frameworks (e.g., neoclassical growth accounting, chaos and complexity theories) may be utilized for inductive and deductive purposes to develop and to test, in step-by-step fashion, theoretically sound frameworks for a large subset of ICT4D research questions. Specifically, this book showcases the utilization of DM, DEA, and SEM for the following purposes: Identification of the relevant context-specific constructs (inductive application) Identification of the relationships between the constructs (inductive application) Development of a framework incorporating the constructs and relationships discovered (inductive application) Testing of the constructed framework (deductive application) The book takes a multi-theoretical perspective to economic development research. It starts with an overview of ICT4D. Next it covers such frameworks and theories as neoclassical growth accounting and the theory of complementarity, complex systems and chaos theories, and the product life cycle (PLC) theory. There are also nontechnical overviews of the DM and data analytic methods that can be used in this research. Also presented is evidence that human capital and investment capital are complementary and are reliable sources of economic growth. The book concludes with methodological frameworks to guide investment decisions and the formulation of strategic policy.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An FBI agent finds himself in the insular world of a fishing village on the Maine coast where the rules are different—sometimes lethally so. After his wife and two children are killed in a car crash, Ryan Tapia starts a new life in Maine. But his first case there is a puzzling oddball—the corpse of a fisherman washes up on federal land, while the man’s boat drifts into waters that are part of an Indian reservation. Ryan quickly learns the nuances of Maine life as he delves into two illicit coastal trades: hard drugs and rare fish. Many of the locals are happy to see that particular fisherman dead. What’s more, they are not shy about noting that Ryan must have screwed up pretty badly to be posted to such a remote location as Bangor, Maine. Undaunted, Ryan works to understand the unforgiving way of life on Liberty Island, where people live by an older, harsher code. Adrift on a sailboat one day, he encounters a man from the Malpense tribe, living as a hermit on a remote island, who witnessed something that fateful day. In his riveting crime debut, New York Times bestselling author Thomas E. Ricks turns his literary talents to land he knows deeply, from working in the Maine woods and trapping lobsters year-round. Everyone Knows But You is a rich and dynamic crime novel that brings a unique part of America to vivid, thrilling life.
