Download or read book Ludwig Tieck written by Dwight Klett and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2020-02-04 with total page 172 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When originally published in 1993, this was the first bibliography of the secondary literature on Tieck. Given as much secondary literature surrounding Tieck’s life and works has been generated outside of his native Germany as within, this bibliography focuses particularly on his life and work from an international perspective. In order to make the information surrounding Tieck accessible, the book provides a detailed table of contents, with corresponding text divisions, rather than a subject index. It therefore highlights Tieck’s achievements in their various national contexts so that not only students of German can get an accurate feel for Tieck’s versatility and range.

Download or read book Real Words written by Jeffrey Reid and published by University of Toronto Press. This book was released on 2007-01-01 with total page 193 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There exists a very particular grasp of the relation between language and objectivity in the work of G.W.F. Hegel (1770-1831), one that rejects the idea of truth as the reflection between words and what they represent. Jeffrey Reid's Real Words is an examination of Hegel's notion of scientific language (i.e. the language of his system) and its implications to a type of discourse that is itself true objectivity. Hegel sees scientific logos as real, actual, and true, where there is no distance between signifier and signified and where the word is the effective thing. The words of Hegel's system are meant to be objective: they 'take place' in the world; they are not the arbitrary constructions of the individual philosopher. This concept of language is only possible through the idea of content, real words that actually embody the truth of nature, history, law, art and philosophy itself. Real Words presents an original way of understanding one of the most important philosophers in the Western tradition.

Download or read book Taking Stock Twenty Five Years of Comparative Literary Research written by and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2019-10-29 with total page 572 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Read an interview with Norbert Bachleitner. In this 200th volume of Internationale Forschungen zur Allgemeinen und Vergleichenden Literaturwissenschaft the editors Norbert Bachleitner, Achim H. Hölter and John A. McCarthy ‘take stock’ of the discipline. It focuses on recurrent questions in the field of Comparative Literature: What is literature? What is meant by ‘comparative’? Or by ‘world’? What constitute ‘transgressions’ or ‘refractions’? What, ultimately, does being at home in the world imply? When we combine the answers to these individual questions, we might ultimately reach an intriguing proposition: Comparative Literature contributes to a sense of being at home in a world that is heterogeneous and fractured, rather than affirming a monolithic canon marked by territory and homogeneity. The volume unites essays on world literature, literature in the context of the history of ideas, comparative women and gender studies, aesthetics and textual analysis, and literary translation and tradition.

Download or read book Volume 6 Tome III Kierkegaard and His German Contemporaries Literature and Aesthetics written by Jon Stewart and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-12-05 with total page 574 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume explores in detail Kierkegaard's various relations to his German contemporaries. Kierkegaard read German fluently and made extensive use of the writings of German-speaking authors. It can certainly be argued that, apart from his contemporary Danish sources, the German sources were probably the most important in the development of his thought generally. The volume has been divided into three tomes reflecting Kierkegaard's main areas of interest with regard to the German-speaking sources, namely, philosophy, theology and a more loosely conceived category, which has here been designated "literature and aesthetics." This third tome is dedicated to the German literary sources that were significant for Kierkegaard; in particular the work of authors from German Classicism and Romanticism. Important forerunners for many of Kierkegaard's literary motifs and characters can be found in the German literature of the day. His use of pseudonyms and his interest in irony were both profoundly influenced by German Romanticism. This volume demonstrates the extent to which Kierkegaard's views of criticism and aesthetics were decisively shaped by the work of German authors.
