Book Suspended Sediment and Bed Material Studies on the Lower Mississippi River

Download or read book Suspended Sediment and Bed Material Studies on the Lower Mississippi River written by Lamont G. Robbins and published by . This book was released on 1977 with total page 452 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The ultimate purpose of sediment studies is to develop a workable knowledge of the basic principles controlling the transport of sediment in the Lower Mississippi River and to apply this knowledge toward effective and economical stabilization works for flood control and navigation. The more immediate purpose of this report, however, is to present the data that have been collected and analyzed to date (1929-1974) and to show what trends exist in the quantities and sizes of suspended and bed sediments for the Vicksburg District.

  • Pages : 527 pages

Download or read book River Mechanics written by Pierre Y. Julien and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2018-04-12 with total page 527 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The second edition of Julien's textbook presents an analysis of rivers from mountain streams to river estuaries. The book is rooted in fundamental principles to promote sound engineering practice. State-of-the-art methods are presented to underline theory and engineering applications. River mechanics blends the dual concepts of water conveyance and sediment transport. Like the first edition, this textbook contains ample details on river equilibrium, river dynamics, bank stabilization, and river engineering. Complementary chapters also cover the physical and mathematical modeling of rivers. As well as being completely updated throughout, three new chapters have been added on watershed dynamics, hillslope stability, and stream restoration. Throughout the text, hundreds of examples, exercises, problems, and case studies assist the reader in learning the essential concepts of river engineering. The textbook is very well illustrated to enhance advanced student learning, while researchers and practitioners will find the book to be an invaluable reference.

Book Advances in Spatio Temporal Analysis

Download or read book Advances in Spatio Temporal Analysis written by Xinming Tang and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2007-08-23 with total page 2385 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Developments in Geographic Information Technology have raised the expectations of users. A static map is no longer enough; there is now demand for a dynamic representation. Time is of great importance when operating on real world geographical phenomena, especially when these are dynamic. Researchers in the field of Temporal Geographical Information Systems (TGIS) have been developing methods of incorporating time into geographical information systems. Spatio-temporal analysis embodies spatial modelling, spatio-temporal modelling and spatial reasoning and data mining. Advances in Spatio-Temporal Analysis contributes to the field of spatio-temporal analysis, presenting innovative ideas and examples that reflect current progress and achievements.

Book Field Study and Tests of Several One dimensional Sediment transport Computer Models for Pool 20 Mississippi River

Download or read book Field Study and Tests of Several One dimensional Sediment transport Computer Models for Pool 20 Mississippi River written by Tatsuaki Nakato and published by . This book was released on 1981 with total page 166 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: To test the applicability of various one-dimensional sediment-transport numerical models of movable-bed channels to Pool 20 to the Mississippi River, detailed field data were first collected, and several numerical models were subsequently evaluated using these field data. Chapter I describes the detailed results from a sediment sampling field study conducted in 1978 near Buzzard Island (RM 347-55) in Pool 20 of the Mississippi River. Variations in the longitudinal and transverse distributions are presented for various flow quantities and sediment characteristics, and are analyzed in connection with the prevalent shoaling problem in the Buzzard Island study reach. Chapter II evaluates the performance of four mathematical simulation models which used the data from a complimentary field study conducted in 1976 to establish the initial conditions when predicting the 1978 conditions. The four models evaluated were: (1) the HEC-6 model provided by the Hydrologic Engineering Center, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers; (2) the SUSR; (3) UUWSR models employed at the Colorado State University; and (4) the CHAR2 model used by the Sogreah consulting firm in Grenoble, France.
