Book Lower and Middle Jurassic Radiolarian Biostratigraphy and Systematic Paleontology Queen Charlotte Islands British Columbia

Download or read book Lower and Middle Jurassic Radiolarian Biostratigraphy and Systematic Paleontology Queen Charlotte Islands British Columbia written by E. S. Carter and published by Geological Survey of Canada. This book was released on 1988 with total page 132 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Extensive geological investigation of Mesozoic strata of the Pacific Rim is currently underway to determine the hydrocarbon potential of these rocks. Precise biostratigraphic control is essential for advances and substantial new information on the Jurassic biostratigraphy and taxonomy of Jurassic radiolarians from the Queen Charlotte Islands is presented in this report. Five new genera and 42 new species are described, most of which have restricted, and therefore useful, biostratigraphic ranges. A preliminary radiolarian zonation is proposed, calibrated with associated ammonite and foraminiferal faunas.

Book Biochronology and Paleontology of Lower Jurassic Hettangian and Sinemurian Radiolarians Queen Charlotte Islands British Columbia

Download or read book Biochronology and Paleontology of Lower Jurassic Hettangian and Sinemurian Radiolarians Queen Charlotte Islands British Columbia written by Elizabeth S. Carter and published by . This book was released on 1998 with total page 162 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The excellent preservation of radiolarians in formations on the Queen Charlotte Islands, and the precision to which they can be dated from closely associated ammonites and other fossils, makes them especially suitable for constructing integrated biochronological zonations and detailed taxonomic studies. The purpose of this study is to develop a detailed radiolarian zonation for the Lower Jurassic, to integrate new radiolarian zones with ammonite assemblages for that period, to document the range and distribution of the Queen Charlotte Islands radiolarians as completely as possible, and to describe new taxa. The first part reviews the lithostratigraphy of the formations studied, the independent fossil dating methods used, the diversity and composition of the radiolarian faunas observed, the radiolarian biochrolology and chronostratigraphy, and paleobiogeography of the area's radiolarians and ammonites. Part 2 is a systematic palaeontology describing radiolarian species by suborder, family, and genus.

Book Jurassic Stratigraphy of the Queen Charlotte Islands British Columbia

Download or read book Jurassic Stratigraphy of the Queen Charlotte Islands British Columbia written by B. E. B. Cameron and published by . This book was released on 1985 with total page 294 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "During the course of the present detailed stratigraphic studies careful attention was paid to occurrences of bitumen, dead oil, fetid lithologies, and possible porous intervals within the Jurassic rocks. Hydrocarbons, derived from normal petroleum type hydrocarbons, were noted throughout the lower and middle Jurassic. The present evidence suggests that hydrocarbon reserves may be encountered in the subsurface in northern Graham Island, southern Hecate Strait, and Queen Charlotte Sound. These potential resources involve mesozoic oil within the Jurassic or Cretaceous rocks, or escape oil of Mesozoic age in Tertiary sandstone units." --

Book Pliensbachian Lower Jurassic Biostratigraphy and Ammonite Fauna of the Spatsizi Area North central British Columbia

Download or read book Pliensbachian Lower Jurassic Biostratigraphy and Ammonite Fauna of the Spatsizi Area North central British Columbia written by Robert Charles Thomson and published by . This book was released on 1992 with total page 100 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the northern Spatsizi area where lateral variations in facies and structural complexity are common, the age relationships between rock units can be accurately established using ammonite faunas. The Pliensbachian ammonites described in this bulletin were collected as part of a biostratigraphic study of the Spatsizi Group and Cold Fish volcanics. The study area includes most of the Eaglenest Range in the Spatsizi Plateau Wilderness Park, an area situated on the Stikine Terrane. The ammonite fauna was collected from sedimentary and volcanic rocks distributed along the southern flank of the Stikine Arch and exposed from beneath the Bowser Lake Group in small inliers. The bulletin gives a summary of the stratigraphy and provides a systematic paleontology.

Book Biostratigraphy and Depositional Environment of the Escalante and Hesquiat Formations early Tertiary of the Nootka Sound Area Vancouver Island British Columbia

Download or read book Biostratigraphy and Depositional Environment of the Escalante and Hesquiat Formations early Tertiary of the Nootka Sound Area Vancouver Island British Columbia written by B. E. B. Cameron and published by . This book was released on 1980 with total page 36 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The best exposures of early Tertiary rocks on the west coast of Canada occur in the Nootka Sound area of Vancouver Island. A detailed study of these rocks was undertaken to understand the depositional and tectonic framework of readily accessible parts of the Tofino Basin.

Book Early Jurassic Rossland Group Southern British Columbia

Download or read book Early Jurassic Rossland Group Southern British Columbia written by Trygve Höy and published by . This book was released on 1998 with total page 138 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Rossland Group in south-eastern British Columbia comprises intermediate to mafic volcanic rocks and associated clastic rocks of Lower Jurassic age. The Group hosts a variety of gold and silver deposits and continues to be a target of mineral exploration. The purpose of the study reported is to develop a better understanding of the nature, timing, and controls of mineralization in the Group, particularly the intrusion-related gold-copper veins in the Rossland camp. The report describes the Rossland Group stratigraphy, its paleotectonic setting, and associated intrusions. It summarizes the structure of the Rossland Group area and presents a tectonic model for the Group. Information is also included on the regional geologic setting and the geochemistry of the Elise Formation and plutonic rocks.
