Book Electron Cyclotron Current Drive by the Ohkawa Method in the Presence of Bootstrap Current

Download or read book Electron Cyclotron Current Drive by the Ohkawa Method in the Presence of Bootstrap Current written by Joan Decker and published by . This book was released on 2003 with total page 10 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In high temperature tokamak confined plasmas, electron cyclotron current drive (ECCD) entails a competition between current drive by the Ohkawa mechanism (OKM) and the Fisch-Boozer mechanism (FBM). We have shown recently that the OKM of current drive (OKCD) is more suitable for effectively generating significant current at positions off the magnetic axis, on the outboard low field side (LFS), of interest to various advanced tokamak operation scenarios, and STs, requiring current profile control. At such positions the bootstrap current (BC) is also appreciable and OKCD must be evaluated self-consistently in the presence of BC; we present results from such a self-consistent formulation and evaluate the synergism between OKCD and BC.

Book On Synergism Between Bootstrap and Radio frequency Driven Currents

Download or read book On Synergism Between Bootstrap and Radio frequency Driven Currents written by Joan Decker and published by . This book was released on 2002 with total page 10 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In advanced scenarios of steady-state operation in tokamaks, radio-frequency (RF) driven currents have to be calculated self-consistently with the bootstrap current (BC). This is addressed for the case of lower hybrid (LH) and electron cyclotron (EC) current drive. Keywords: Bootstrap current; Electron cyclotron current drive; Fokker-Planck equation; Lower hybrid heating and current drive; RF current drive.

Book Active Control of Magneto hydrodynamic Instabilities in Hot Plasmas

Download or read book Active Control of Magneto hydrodynamic Instabilities in Hot Plasmas written by Valentin Igochine and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-09-15 with total page 350 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During the past century, world-wide energy consumption has risen dramatically, which leads to a quest for new energy sources. Fusion of hydrogen atoms in hot plasmas is an attractive approach to solve the energy problem, with abundant fuel, inherent safety and no long-lived radioactivity. However, one of the limits on plasma performance is due to the various classes of magneto-hydrodynamic instabilities that may occur. The physics and control of these instabilities in modern magnetic confinement fusion devices is the subject of this book. Written by foremost experts, the contributions will provide valuable reference and up-to-date research reviews for "old hands" and newcomers alike.

Book Systems Approaches to Nuclear Fusion Reactors

Download or read book Systems Approaches to Nuclear Fusion Reactors written by Frederick B. Marcus and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-01-01 with total page 484 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book offers an overall review, applying systems engineering and architecture approaches, of the design, optimization, operation and results of leading fusion experiments. These approaches provide a unified means of evaluating reactor design. Methodologies are developed for more coherent construction or evaluation of fusion devices, associated experiments and operating procedures. The main focus is on tokamaks, with almost all machines and their important results being integrated into a systems design space. Case studies focus on DIII-D, TCV, JET, WEST, the fusion reactor prototype ITER and the EU DEMO concept. Stellarator, Mirror and Laser inertial confinement experiments are similarly analysed, including reactor implications of breakeven at NIF. The book examines the engineering and physics design and optimization process for each machine, analysing their performance and major results achieved, thus establishing a basis for the improvement of future machines. The reader will gain a broad historical and up-to-date perspective of the status of nuclear fusion research from both an engineering and physics point of view. Explanations are given of the computational tools needed to design and operate successful experiments and reactor-relevant machines. This book is aimed at both graduate students and practitioners of nuclear fusion science and engineering, as well as those specializing in other fields demanding large and integrated experimental equipment. Systems engineers will obtain valuable insights into fusion applications. References are given to associated complex mathematical derivations, which are beyond the scope of this book. The general reader interested in nuclear fusion will find here an accessible summary of the current state of nuclear fusion.

Book Lower Hybrid Current Drive Experiments in the HT 7 Tokamak

Download or read book Lower Hybrid Current Drive Experiments in the HT 7 Tokamak written by Zhongyong Chen and published by Nova Novinka. This book was released on 2010 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The achievement of steady state operation and long pulse is one of the major challenges in the tokamak plasmas. One of the most effective means to sustain tokamak steady state operation is non-inductive current drive (NICD) by lower hybrid (LH) wave. Lower hybrid current drive (LHCD) as an effective NICD tool has been demonstrated in many tokamaks. LHCD is used to modify the plasma current profile to improve the MHD stability, or used in conjunction with ion Bernstein wave (IBW) to achieve high performance discharge. The achievement of high current drive efficiency is of primary importance since it determines the required power that must be recycled to sustain the plasma current. This book discusses the lower-hybrid current drive experiences currently being done in regards to HT-7 tokamaks.

Book Handbook on Plasma Instabilities

Download or read book Handbook on Plasma Instabilities written by Ferdinand F. Cap and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2013-09-11 with total page 494 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Handbook on Plasma Instabilities, Volume 3, is primarily intended to serve as a sourcebook for obtaining quick information and literature references pertaining to a specific topic. Such a handbook has to be formulated in a way that enables understanding of any one section without requiring full understanding of any other section. Volume 1 (Chapters 1-13) presents the fundamental concepts of plasma physics with applications, and has more the nature of a textbook treating basic plasma physics, containment, waves, and macroscopic instabilities. Volume 2 (Chapters 14-17) covers various aspects of microinstabilities, beam plasma systems, stabilization methods, and parametric effects. The present volume (Chapters 18-22) starts with a discussion on feedback and dynamic stabilization using parametric and other effects. It then treats nonlinear effects and laser-plasma systems. One chapter is devoted to applications and use of instabilities. It concludes with a report on plasma waves and instabilities in cosmic space.
