Book Development of a Hydrological Modelling Toolkit to Support Sustainable Development of the Lower Burdekin Groundwater System

Download or read book Development of a Hydrological Modelling Toolkit to Support Sustainable Development of the Lower Burdekin Groundwater System written by Jipu Wang and published by . This book was released on 2012 with total page 80 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The aim of this modelling study is to simulate the groundwater flow behaviour in the Lower Burdekin groundwater system. The model area includes areas occupied by the North and South Burdekin Water Board areas and the Burdekin Haughton Water Supply Scheme area. The model described in this report will be used to analyse the issue of rising groundwater table, evaluate the impact of land and water management on the groundwater system, and assess the potential long-term consequences of climate change. The model will provide the basis for the development of a seawater intrusion model and solute transport model.

Download or read book Development of a Hydrological Modelling Toolkit to Support Sustainable Development of the Lower Burdekin Groundwater System written by L. Reading and published by . This book was released on 2012 with total page 33 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this project is to develop an integrated and holistic package of modelling tools to support the decision making process for water management in the Lower Burdekin. This project is funded by the National Water Commission under the Raising National Water Standards Program. In particular, this project aims to construct, calibrate, test and report unsaturated zone, groundwater flow and solute transport models for the Lower Burdekin. By providing a strong understanding of the major features and behaviour of the system, the proposed "hydrological modelling toolkit" will: (i) support the extension of the water resource planning process to groundwater; (ii) inform generalised on-farm and off-farm water management and use; and (iii) improve understanding of the groundwater-related risks to the Great Barrier Reef lagoon.

Book excerpt: This project seeks to emphasize the capability of the Local Grid Refinement (LGR) Package of MODFLOW-2005 in undertaking groundwater studies in the Lower Burdekin, North Queensland, Australia. LGR is an improvement on the previously implemented refinement techniques as a result of the iterative coupling between a refined child model and a coarse parent model. The method allows better consistency of heads and fluxes across the interfacing boundary resulting in greater simulation resolution and aquifer head accuracy.

Book Development of a Hydrological Modelling Toolkit to Support Sustainable Development of the Lower Burdekin Groundwater System

Download or read book Development of a Hydrological Modelling Toolkit to Support Sustainable Development of the Lower Burdekin Groundwater System written by Z. Foy and published by . This book was released on 2012 with total page 67 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report describes the movement of chloride in the Lower Burdekin region and provides a detailed outline of the development of an instructional chloride transport model. The model has been constructed as a part of a suite of hydrological modelling tools to assess and inform management decisions that seek to address a number of key issues in the region. These issues include seawater intrusion, the discharge of solutes to the estuarine and coastal environment from groundwater, declining groundwater quality and further impacts of land and water use.

This book was released on 2012 with total page 54 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A comprehensive geochemical assessment was needed to address the data gaps that existed with regard to the redox state of aquifer up-gradient of known groundwater discharge zones. This assessment focused on the coastal portion of the aquifer system where fresh terrestrial groundwater meets the intruded seawater wedge, known as a subterranean estuary (STE), and riparian zones of creeks and rivers where groundwater discharge is known to occur.

This book was released on 2012 with total page 133 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This project set out to measure and validate the evapotranspirative demand of native vegetation within a groundwater dependant ecosystem in the Lower Burdekin, Queensland, Australia. This required the monitoring / measurement of groundwater uptake rates for a variety of flow conditions and vegetation types. A site was chosen which was determined to be representative of riparian vegetation across the region. Once a site had been chosen, representative species and trees were selected that were deemed to be representative in terms of basal areas and leaf area (size and age classes). After extensive monitoring of sap flow and environmental conditions, Sap Flow Tool was used to analyse the raw heat velocity signals and calculate tree-specific sap velocities and sap flow rates.
