Download or read book Protein Stability and Folding written by Wolfgang Pfeil and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 662 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Protein folding remains one of the most exclusive problems of modern biochemistry. Structure analysis has given access to the wealth of the molecular architecture of pro teins. As architecture needs static calculations, protein structure is always related to thermodynamic factors that govern folding and stability of a particular folded protein over the non-organized polypeptide chain. During the past decades a huge amount of thermodynamic data related to protein folding and stability has been accumulated. The data are certainly of importance in dechiffring the protein folding problem. At the same time, the data can guide the con struction of modified and newly synthesized proteins with properties optimized for particular application. The intention of this book is a generation of a data collection which makes the vast amount of present data accessible for multidisciplinary research where chemistry, phy sics, biology, and medicine are involved and also pharmaceutical and food research and technology. It took several years to compile all the data and the author wishes to thank everyone who provided data, ideas or even unpublished results. The author is, in particular, indebted to Prof. Wadso (Lund, Sweden) and IUPAC's Steering Committee on Bio physical Chemistry. Furthermore, support by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschafi (INK 16 AI-I) is acknowledged.

Download or read book Protein Analysis and Purification written by I.M. Rosenberg and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-14 with total page 453 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is designed to be a practical progression of experimental techniques an investigator may follow when embarking on a biochemical project. The protocols may be performed in the order laid out or may be used inde pendently. The aim of the book is to assist a wide range of researchers. from the novice to the frustrated veteran, in the choice and design of experiments that are to be performed to provide answers to specific questions. The manual describes standard techniques that have been shown to work, as well as some newer ones that are beginning to prove important. By following the promi nently numbered steps. you can work your way through any protocol. whether it's a new technique or a task you've done before for which you need a quick review or updated methodology. This manual will assist the experimentalist in designing properly controlled experiments. There will be no advice for dealing with specific pieces of equip ment other than encouragement to read the manual, if you can find it. Through out all manipulations try to be objective. Be on the lookout for unexpected findings. You will learn the most from unexpected results. and they are often the beginning of the next project. It is never possible to record too much in your lab notebook. Do not get discouraged. Remember, things will not always run smoothly.
Download or read book High Pressure NMR written by Jiri Jonas and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 272 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In recent years, there has been a major expansion of high pressure research providing unique information about systems of interest to a wide range of scientific disciplines. Since nuclear magnetic resonance has been applied to a wide spec trum of problems in chemistry, physics and biochemistry, it is not surprising to find that high pressure NMR techniques have also had many applications in these fields of science. Clearly, the high information content of NMR experiments combined with high pressure provides a powerful tool in modern chem istry. It is the aim of this monograph, in the series on NMR Basic Principles and Progress, to illustrate the wide range of prob lems which can be successfully studied by high pressure NMR. Indeed, the various contributions in this volume discuss studies of interest to physics, chemical physics, biochemistry, and chemical reaction kinetics. In many different ways, this monograph demonstrates the power of modern experimental and theoretical techniques to investigate very complex systems. The first contribution, by D. Brinkman, deals with NMR and NQR studies of superionic conductors and high-Tc supercon ductors at high pressure. Pressure effects on phase transitions, detection of new phases, and pressure effects on diffusion and spin-lattice relaxation, represent a few of the topics discussed in this contribution of particular interest to solid state physics.
Download or read book Biotechnology in Japan written by Malcolm V. Brock and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2024-11-01 with total page 114 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the early 1980s, biotechnology caused worldwide excitement as a high technology with almost unlimited potential in science, medicine, and industry. It not only allowed the manufacture of traditional products more quickly and inexpensively, but also offered the possibility of synthesizing valuable materials anew. All this made it very attractive to Japanese policymakers, who ‘targeted’ it as a high priority area for economic growth. Originally published in 1989, Biotechnology in Japan is the first published in English to analyse the Japanese effort to promote the new biotechnology industries. The author examines the strategies used for developing biotechnology in Japan and looks at the active role of government in a field in which the Japanese rapidly became the world leaders. Focusing on the making and implementation of biotechnology policy, he considers the relationship between the public and the private sector, and makes use of different political constructs to analyse Japan’s complex and unique balance between competitive market forces and collective interest.
Download or read book Analytical Ultracentrifugation written by Susumu Uchiyama and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-05-13 with total page 520 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book introduces analytical ultracentrifugation (AUC) as a whole, covering essential theoretical and practical aspects as well as its applications in both biological and non-biological systems. Comprehensive characterizations of macromolecules in a solution are now routinely required not only for understanding the solution system but also for producing a solution with better properties. Analytical ultracentrifugation is one of most powerful and reliable techniques for studying the biophysical behavior of solutes in solution. In the last few years, there have been steady advances made in hardware, software, and applications for AUC. This book provides chapters that cover everything essential for beginners to the most advanced users and also offer updated knowledge of the field on advances in hardware, software, and applications. Recent development of hardware described in this book covers new detection systems that give added dimensions to AUC. Examples of data analysis with essential theoretical explanations for advanced and recently updated software are also introduced. Besides AUC of biological systems including membrane proteins and biopharmaceuticals, AUC applications for non-biological questions are included. AUC studies under non-ideal conditions such as highly concentrated solutions and solutions with high salt concentration are also included. The contributors to this book are leading researchers in the fields of solution biophysics and physical chemistry who extensively employ AUC analysis for their research. From this published work, one can gain new and comprehensive knowledge of recent AUC analysis.
