Book Low Energy Electron Diffraction LEED Auger Thin Layer Electrochemical Studies of the Underpotential Deposition of Lead Onto Gold Single Crystals

Download or read book Low Energy Electron Diffraction LEED Auger Thin Layer Electrochemical Studies of the Underpotential Deposition of Lead Onto Gold Single Crystals written by Patrick Lee Hagans and published by . This book was released on 1979 with total page 189 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The underpotential deposition of lead onto very clean and well-ordered single crystal Au samples was studied with linear sweep voltammetry. The single crystal surfaces examined were (100), (110), (111) and (410). The (410) surface is a stepped surface with terraces of (100) orientation four atomic rows in width separated by steps of (100) orientation of monatomic height. The crystals were prepared in an ultra-high vacuum environment (equivalent to 10 to the minus 11th power Torr) by alternate cycles of argon-ion sputtering and annealing until the surfaces were clean within the limits of AES (Auger Electron Spectroscopy). Book A Leed AES Study of the Initial Stages of Oxidation of Fe 001

Download or read book A Leed AES Study of the Initial Stages of Oxidation of Fe 001 written by G. W. Simmons and published by . This book was released on 1974 with total page 44 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Low energy electron diffraction (LEED) and Auger electron spectroscopy (AES) have been used to study the structural changes and kinetics of the initial interaction between Fe(001) and oxygen at room temperature. LEED data indicate that the minimum value of the oxygen sticking coefficient corresponded to the completion of a c(2x2) surface structure. Upon additional exposure to oxygen, an increase in the sticking coefficient was observed in conjunction with the disappearance of the c(2x2) and a gradual fade out of all diffraction features. After mild heating, epitaxial FeO(001) and FeO(111) structures were observed. The relatively high sticking coefficient during the initial oxidation indicates that formation of a mobile adsorbed oxygen state precedes the formation of oxide. (Modified author abstract).

Book Electron Emission Spectroscopy

Download or read book Electron Emission Spectroscopy written by W. Dekeyser and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 514 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Electron emission spectroscopy became recently a major tool for the study of molecules and solids. These volumes contain a rather complete review of the state of the art in this field. Both the physical and chemical aspects are covered extensively by well known specialists. Different modes of excitation are used in electron emission spec troscopy. The electron-solid scattering is covered in detail by C. B. Duke, from a theoretical point of view. Elastic and inelastic low energy electron diffraction are extensively discussed in relation to the geometrical, electronic and vibronic structure of solid surfaces. Auger electron emission spectroscopy (AES) is covered by J. C. Tracy. The tech nique is discussed from the point of view of surface research. This part also contains a complete literature list concerning the application of AES up to the middle of 1972. Electron emission produced by X-ray impact, is covered by C. S. Fadley, D. T. Clark, R. P. Gupta and S. K. Sen. The contribution by C. S. Fadley, entitled Theoretical Aspects of X-Ray Photo electron Spectroscopy', is an up to date discussion of core electron binding energies, valence electron binding energies, multiplet splittings and multi-electron processes. R. P. Gupta and S. K. Sen's contribution provides an introduction to crystal field theory and its application to electron energy level determination. D. T. Clark deals with the more chemical aspects of X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, i.e. the study of chemical shifts and the relation to the bonding characteristics in molecules.

Download or read book Auger Electron Spectroscopy written by Donald T. Hawkins and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 305 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Auger electron spectroscopy is rapidly developing into the single most powerful analytical technique in basic and applied science.for investigating the chemical and structural properties of solids. Its ex plosive growth beginning in 1967 was triggered by the development of Auger analyzers capable of de tecting one atom layer of material in a fraction of a second. Continued growth was guaranteed firstly by the commercial availability of apparatus which combined the capabilities of scanning electron mi croscopy and ion-mill depth profiling with Auger analysis, and secondly by the increasing need to know the atomistics of many processes in fundamental research and engineering applications. The expanding use of Auger analysis was accompanied by an increase in the number of publications dealing with it. Because of the developing nature of Auger spectroscopy, the articles have appeared in many different sources covering diverse disciplines, so that it is extremely difficult to discover just what has or has not been subjected to Auger analysis. In this situation, a comprehensive bibliography is obviou-sly useful to those both inside and outside the field. For those in the field, this bibliography should be a wonderful time saver for locating certain references, in researching a particular topic, or when considering various aspects of instrumentation or data analysis. This bibliography not only provides the most complete listing of references pertinent to surface Auger analysis available today, but it is also a basis for extrapolating from past trends to future expectations.

Book Electron Spectroscopy for Surface Analysis

Download or read book Electron Spectroscopy for Surface Analysis written by H. Ibach and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 265 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The development of surface physics and surface chemistry as a science is closely related to the technical development of a number of methods involving electrons either as an excitation source or as an emitted particle carrying characteristic information. Many of these various kinds of electron spectroscopies have become commercially available and have made their way into industrial laboratories. Others are still in an early stage, but may become of increasing importance in the future. In this book an assessment of the various merits and possible drawbacks of the most frequently used electron spectroscopies is attempted. Emphasis is put on prac tical examples and experimental design rather than on theoretical considerations. The book addresses itself to the reader who wishes to know which electron spectroscopy or which combination of different electron spectroscopies he may choose for the particular problems under investigation. After a brief introduction the practical design of electron spectrometers and their figures of merit important for the different applications are discussed in Chapter 2. Chapter 3 deals with electron excited electron spectroscopies which are used for the elemental analysis of surfaces. Structure analysis by electron diffrac tion is described in Chapter 4 with special emphasis on the use of electron diffrac tion for the investigation of surface imperfections. For the application of electron diffraction to surface crystallography in general, the reader is referred to Volume 4 of "Topics in Applied Physics".

Book Development of an Ultrafast Low Energy Electron Diffraction Setup

Download or read book Development of an Ultrafast Low Energy Electron Diffraction Setup written by Max Gulde and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-05-26 with total page 149 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents an Ultrafast Low-Energy Electron Diffraction (ULEED) system that reveals ultrafast structural changes on the atomic scale. The achievable temporal resolution in the low-energy regime is improved by several orders of magnitude and has enabled the melting of a highly-sensitive, molecularly thin layer of a polymer crystal to be resolved for the first time. This new experimental approach permits time-resolved structural investigations of systems that were previously partially or totally inaccessible, including surfaces, interfaces and atomically thin films. It will be of fundamental importance for understanding the properties of nanomaterials so as to tailor their properties.

Book Low Energy Electron Diffraction

Download or read book Low Energy Electron Diffraction written by Michel A. VanHove and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 617 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Surface crystallography plays the same fundamental role in surface science which bulk crystallography has played so successfully in solid-state physics and chemistry. The atomic-scale structure is one of the most important aspects in the understanding of the behavior of surfaces in such widely diverse fields as heterogeneous catalysis, microelectronics, adhesion, lubrication, cor rosion, coatings, and solid-solid and solid-liquid interfaces. Low-Energy Electron Diffraction or LEED has become the prime tech nique used to determine atomic locations at surfaces. On one hand, LEED has yielded the most numerous and complete structural results to date (almost 200 structures), while on the other, LEED has been regarded as the "technique to beat" by a variety of other surface crystallographic methods, such as photoemission, SEXAFS, ion scattering and atomic diffraction. Although these other approaches have had impressive successes, LEED has remained the most productive technique and has shown the most versatility of application: from adsorbed rare gases, to reconstructed surfaces of sem iconductors and metals, to molecules adsorbed on metals. However, these statements should not be viewed as excessively dogmatic since all surface sensitive techniques retain untapped potentials that will undoubtedly be explored and exploited. Moreover, surface science remains a multi-technique endeavor. In particular, LEED never has been and never will be self sufficient. LEED has evolved considerably and, in fact, has reached a watershed.
