Book Quarks Baryons and Chiral Symmetry

Download or read book Quarks Baryons and Chiral Symmetry written by Atsushi Hosaka and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2001 with total page 389 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book describes baryon models constructed from quarks, mesons and chiral symmetry. The role of chiral symmetry and of quark model structure with SU(6) spin-flavor symmetry are discussed in detail, starting from a pedagogic introduction. Emphasis is placed on symmetry aspects of the theories. As an application, the chiral bag model is studied for nucleon structure, where important methods of theoretical physics, mostly related to the semiclassical approach for a system of strong interactions, are demonstrated. The text is more practical than formal; tools and ideas are explained in detail while solving actual problems. By checking each step of the computations, readers can learn not only the calculational techniques but also the essential ideas behind them.

Book Pairing in Fermionic Systems

Download or read book Pairing in Fermionic Systems written by Mark Gower Alford and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2006 with total page 298 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cooper pairing of fermions is a profound phenomenon that has become very important in many different areas of physics in the recent past. This book brings together, for the first time, experts from various fields involving Cooper pairing, at the level of BCS theory and beyond, including the study of novel states of matter such as ultracold atomic gases, nuclear systems at the extreme, and quark matter with application to neutron stars. Cross-disciplinary in nature, the book will be of interest to physicists in many different specialties, including condensed matter, nuclear, high-energy, and astrophysics. The emphasis is on novel issues beyond ordinary BCS theory such as pairing in asymmetric systems, the polarization effect, and higher spin pairing. These topics are rarely treated at the textbook level and all of them are the subjects of intensive ongoing research. The book also considers various new techniques widely used in current research that differ significantly from the conventional condensed matter approaches described in the standard literature. Sample Chapter(s). Chapter 1: Color Superconductivity in Dense, but not Asymptotically Dense, Quark Matter (1,976 KB). Contents: Color Superconductivity in Dense, But Not Asymptotically Dense, Quark Matter (M Alford & K Rajagopal); Larkin-Ovchinnikov-Fulde-Ferrell Phases in QCD (G Nardulli); Phase Diagram of Neutral Quark Matter at Moderate Densities (S B Rster et al.); Spontaneous Nambu-Goldstone Current Generation Driven by Mismatch (M Huang); The CFL Phase and m s: An Effective Field Theory Approach (T Schnfer); Nuclear Superconductivity in Compact Stars: BCS Theory and Beyond (A Sedrakian & J W Clark); Pairing Properties of Dressed Nucleons in Infinite Matter (W H Dickhoff & H Mther); Pairing in Higher Angular Momentum States: Spectrum of Solutions of the 3 P 2 - 3 F 2 Pairing Model (M V Zverev et al.); Four-Particle Condensates in Nuclear Systems (G RApke & P Schuck); Realization, Characterization, and Detection of Novel Superfluid Phases with Pairing Between Unbalanced Fermion Species (K Yang); Phase Transition in Unbalanced Fermion Superfluids (H Caldas). Readership: Researchers and graduate students in the areas of condensed matter, nuclear and particle physics."

Book Complementary Aspects of Potential and Quark Models for BB and B Anti B Systems

Download or read book Complementary Aspects of Potential and Quark Models for BB and B Anti B Systems written by and published by . This book was released on 1980 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Our topic at this Round Table is the connection between the particle physics (quark model) and nuclear physics (potential model) approaches to baryonium. This question is part of a larger problem which arises in a variety of contexts in strong interaction physics: how does one reconcile the success of meson (and baryon) exchange models for many low energy hadron-hadron scattering processes with the structure of the underlying quark model. This general problem is discussed, using as examples: (1) baryon-baryon (BB) and baryon-nucleus (specifically N, .lambda., .sigma., and XI) interactions; and (2) baryon-antibaryon (B anti B) systems and their coupling to diquark-antidiquark (Q2 anti Q2) complexes; and (3) interactions of antinucleons with nuclei.
