Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Interpretation of Mass Spectra of Organic Compounds outlines the basic instrumentation, sample handling techniques, and procedures used in the interpretation of mass spectra of organic compounds. The fundamental concepts of ionization, fragmentation, and rearrangement of ions as found in mass spectra are covered in some detail, along with the rectangular array and interpretation maps. Computerization of mass spectral data is also discussed. This book consists of nine chapters and begins with a historical overview of mass spectrometry and a discussion on some important developments in the field, along with a summary of interpretation objectives and methods. The following chapters focus on instruments, ion sources, and detectors; recording of the mass spectrum and the instrumental and sample variables affecting the mass spectrum; sample introduction systems; and fragmentation reactions. Correlations as applied to interpretations are also considered, with emphasis on applications of the branching rule as well as beta-bond and alpha-bond cleavages. Example interpretations, calculations, data-processing procedures, and computer programs are included. This monograph is intended for organic chemists, biochemists, mass spectroscopists, technicians, managers, and others concerned with the whys and wherefores of mass spectrometry.

Book Energy Response of Landsverk Ionization Chambers to Monoenergetic Gamma Rays

Download or read book Energy Response of Landsverk Ionization Chambers to Monoenergetic Gamma Rays written by R. L. Lynn and published by . This book was released on 1962 with total page 36 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An energy response calibration of Landsverk L-65, L-81, and L-83 pocket chambers was carried out using monoenergetic gamma-emitting radioisotopes. Since the intensity of the sources was low, the pocket chambers were used as ratemeters and the ionization current was read on a vibrating-reed electrometer. The dose rate of each isotope (Co-60, Cs-137, Hg-203, and Ce-141) was calibrated with a scintillation spectrometer. The angular response of the chambers for energies of 1.25 Mev, 662 kev, 270 kev, and 145 kev, respectively, was measured in one quandrant. The effect of wall thickness on the energy response was also investigated.

Book An Introduction to Radiation Dosimetry

Download or read book An Introduction to Radiation Dosimetry written by S. Lovell and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 1979-09-13 with total page 132 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: First published in 1979, this volume presents an elementary and, as far as is practicable, non-mathematical introduction to radiation dosimetry. Where it proved necessary to use mathematical notation, it was kept to a simple level. The volume treats dosimetry from first principles, dealing with the interaction of the various radiations with matter, then defining dosimetric quantities and units and showing how the more important ones are measured. It concludes with a brief chapter on radiation protection. Although a number of dosimetric systems are described in some detail the treatment is by no means encyclopaedic. SI units appear throughout, including some which were not yet in universal use when the book was first published. Where it was considered necessary, the older non-SI units were also defined and conversion factors were given.

Book Micro and Nano Machined Electrometers

Download or read book Micro and Nano Machined Electrometers written by Yong Zhu and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-02-13 with total page 222 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book reviews advances in cutting-edge micro-/nano-electrometers, and discusses the technological challenges involved in their practical implementation. The detection of electrostatic charge has a wide range of applications in ionization chambers, bio-analyte and aerosol particle instruments, mass spectrometers, scanning tunneling microscopes, and even quantum computers. Designing micro-/nano-electrometers (also known as charge sensors) for electrometry is considered vital because of the charge sensitivity and resolution issues at micro-/nano-scales. The remarkably dynamic microelectromechanical systems (MEMSs)/nanoelectromechanical systems (NEMSs), and advances in solid-state electronics, hold considerable potential for the design and fabrication of extremely sensitive charge sensors.
