Book Low Cycle Fatigue Investigation of Titanium 6A1 4V Alloy

Download or read book Low Cycle Fatigue Investigation of Titanium 6A1 4V Alloy written by and published by . This book was released on 1968 with total page 18 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: To evaluate the effect of forging and heat treatment parameters on titanium 6A1-4V alloy (AMS 4928), various microstructures were investigated and compared in a deflection-controlled low cycle fatigue test program. The test specimen was designed to simulate the strain state observed in gas turbine engine components. The results of this study will be used to optimize the design of compressor disks. Parameters investigated include environment, mean strain, and surface condition. The number of cycles to initiate a fatigue crack and the rate of crack propagation were measured to evaluate the microstructures. The number of cycles to crack initiation was correlated with a mechanistic theory based on the static properties of the materials investigated.

Book Fatigue of Structures and Materials

Download or read book Fatigue of Structures and Materials written by J. Schijve and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2008-12-16 with total page 627 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fatigue of structures and materials covers a wide scope of different topics. The purpose of the present book is to explain these topics, to indicate how they can be analyzed, and how this can contribute to the designing of fatigue resistant structures and to prevent structural fatigue problems in service. Chapter 1 gives a general survey of the topic with brief comments on the signi?cance of the aspects involved. This serves as a kind of a program for the following chapters. The central issues in this book are predictions of fatigue properties and designing against fatigue. These objectives cannot be realized without a physical and mechanical understanding of all relevant conditions. In Chapter 2 the book starts with basic concepts of what happens in the material of a structure under cyclic loads. It illustrates the large number of variables which can affect fatigue properties and it provides the essential background knowledge for subsequent chapters. Different subjects are presented in the following main parts: • Basic chapters on fatigue properties and predictions (Chapters 2–8) • Load spectra and fatigue under variable-amplitude loading (Chapters 9–11) • Fatigue tests and scatter (Chapters 12 and 13) • Special fatigue conditions (Chapters 14–17) • Fatigue of joints and structures (Chapters 18–20) • Fiber-metal laminates (Chapter 21) Each chapter presents a discussion of a speci?c subject.

Book Low Cycle Fatigue of Ti 6Al 4V at 423 F

Download or read book Low Cycle Fatigue of Ti 6Al 4V at 423 F written by R. R. Hilsen and published by . This book was released on 1963 with total page 14 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: To determine the effects of various factors on low-cycle fatigue phenomena in connection with space vehicle design, axial tension fatigue tests up to 2000 cycles were conducted on titanium alloy, Ti-6Al-4V, at -423 F. The effects of changing the minimum-to-maximum load ratio and cycling speed for the range tested were slight. The fatigue strength of pressure-welded specimens was within 1 per cent of that of the base metal. Fatigue strengths at -423 F were 65 to 68 per cent higher than those at room temperature.

Book Fatigue of Beta Processed and Beta Heat treated Titanium Alloys

Download or read book Fatigue of Beta Processed and Beta Heat treated Titanium Alloys written by Russell Wanhill and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2011-10-28 with total page 58 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This publication reviews most of the available literature on the fatigue properties of β annealed Ti-6Al-4V and titanium alloys with similar microstructures. The focus is on β processed and β heat-treated alloys because β annealed Ti-6Al-4V has been selected for highly loaded and fatigue-critical structures, including the main wing-carry-through bulkheads and vertical tail stubs, of advanced high-performance military aircraft. An important aspect of the review is a concise survey of fatigue life assessment methods and the required types of fatigue data. This survey provides the background to recommendations for further research, especially on the fatigue behaviour of β annealed Ti-6Al-4V under realistic fatigue load histories, including the essential topic of short/small fatigue crack growth. Such research is required for independent fatigue life assessments that conform to the aircraft manufacturer’s design requirements, and also for life reassessments that most probably will have to be made during the service life of the aircraft.

Book Fretting Fatigue Behavior of the Titanium Alloy Ti 6AL 4V Under Seawater Conditions

Download or read book Fretting Fatigue Behavior of the Titanium Alloy Ti 6AL 4V Under Seawater Conditions written by Lewis C. Lietch and published by . This book was released on 2004-03-01 with total page 129 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The fretting fatigue behavior of Ti-6A1-4V was investigated in laboratory air and under a controlled environment consisting of synthetic seawater. Fretting fatigue tests were performed for both low and high cycle fatigue regimes. Finite element analysis was utilized to model and analyze the experimental data. The applied stress range and the Modified Shear Stress Range were evaluated as potential fatigue parameters. The results found from this study can be summarized as: (1) seawater had a deleterious effect on fretting fatigue life in the low cycle fatigue regime but improved life in the high cycle fatigue regime, (2) although the Q/P ratio for both conditions increased with an increasing applied stress, the difference between the two conditions was negligible, (3) debris from dry samples contained titanium and oxides while the debris from seawater samples contained titanium, oxides, and seawater contaminants, (4) fretting scar volume was larger under seawater conditions than dry conditions, (5) there were more, closely spaced striations on the fracture surface of the dry samples than of the seawater samples, and (6) both the applied (far field) stress range and the Modified Shear Stress Range can potentially be used as conservative fretting fatigue parameters under high cycle fatigue conditions.

Download or read book Optimisation of Fatigue Behaviour of Ti 6Al 4V Alloy Components Fabricated by Metal Injection Moulding written by Orley Milagres Ferri and published by . This book was released on 2010 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the present work, the high cycle fatigue behaviour of Ti-6Al-4V components fabricated by metal injection moulding (MIM) was investigated in detail. Experiments were conducted in an attempt to determine the influence of critical features such as surface quality, porosity and microstructural features on the fatigue behaviour. Based on the results obtained in this investigation, an alloy has been designed with the microstructure features required to minimise the degradation of the high cycle fatigue behaviour resulting from the presence of inherent MIM processing defects.
