Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “I used to be a lesbian.” In Gay Girl, Good God, author Jackie Hill Perry shares her own story, offering practical tools that helped her in the process of finding wholeness. Jackie grew up fatherless and experienced gender confusion. She embraced masculinity and homosexuality with every fiber of her being. She knew that Christians had a lot to say about all of the above. But was she supposed to change herself? How was she supposed to stop loving women, when homosexuality felt more natural to her than heterosexuality ever could? At age nineteen, Jackie came face-to-face with what it meant to be made new. And not in a church, or through contact with Christians. God broke in and turned her heart toward Him right in her own bedroom in light of His gospel. Read in order to understand. Read in order to hope. Or read in order, like Jackie, to be made new.

Download or read book Gay and Catholic written by Eve Tushnet and published by Ave Maria Press. This book was released on 2014-10-20 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Winner of a 2015 Catholic Press Award: Gender Issues Category (First Place). In this first book from an openly lesbian and celibate Catholic, widely published writer and blogger Eve Tushnet recounts her spiritual and intellectual journey from liberal atheism to faithful Catholicism and shows how gay Catholics can love and be loved while adhering to Church teaching. Eve Tushnet was among the unlikeliest of converts. The only child of two atheist academics, Tushnet was a typical Yale undergraduate until the day she went out to poke fun at a gathering of philosophical debaters, who happened also to be Catholic. Instead of enjoying mocking what she termed the “zoo animals,” she found herself engaged in intellectual conversation with them and, in a move that surprised even her, she soon converted to Catholicism. Already self-identifying as a lesbian, Tushnet searched for a third way in the seeming two-option system available to gay Catholics: reject Church teaching on homosexuality or reject the truth of your sexuality. Gay and Catholic: Accepting My Sexuality, Finding Community, Living My Faith is the fruit of Tushnet’s searching: what she learned in studying Christian history and theology and her articulation of how gay Catholics can pour their love and need for connection into friendships, community, service, and artistic creation.

Book Messy Grace

    Book Details:
  • Author : Caleb Kaltenbach
  • Publisher : WaterBrook
  • Release : 2015-10-20
  • ISBN : 1601427379
  • Pages : 226 pages

Download or read book Messy Grace written by Caleb Kaltenbach and published by WaterBrook. This book was released on 2015-10-20 with total page 226 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sometimes, grace gets messy. Caleb Kaltenbach was raised by LGBT parents, marched in gay pride parades as a youngster, and experienced firsthand the hatred and bitterness of some Christians toward his family. But then Caleb surprised everyone, including himself, by becoming a Christian…and a pastor. Very few issues in Christianity are as divisive as the acceptance of the LGBT community in the church. As a pastor and as a person with beloved family members living a gay lifestyle, Caleb had to face this issue with courage and grace. Messy Grace shows us that Jesus’s command to “love your neighbor as yourself” doesn’t have an exception clause for a gay “neighbor”—or for that matter, any other “neighbor” we might find it hard to relate to. Jesus was able to love these people and yet still hold on to his beliefs. So can you. Even when it’s messy. “Messy Grace is an important contribution to the conversation about sexual identity for churches and leaders. Caleb's story is surprising and unique, and he weaves it together compellingly. He states his views clearly, leaves room for disagreement, and champions love no matter where you are in this conversation.” —Jud Wilhite, Sr. Pastor, Central Christian Church

Book God Loves Gays

    Book Details:
  • Author : Ken Harrow
  • Publisher : Createspace Independent Publishing Platform
  • Release : 2017-11-09
  • ISBN : 9781979250238
  • Pages : 200 pages

Download or read book God Loves Gays written by Ken Harrow and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2017-11-09 with total page 200 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: God loves (period). In fact, God doesn't just love - 'God is love' - It doesn't matter who we are or what we've done, God loves us. And He doesn't expect us to be perfect before we come to Him, or after for that matter. God gave my wife and I two gay sons and we are committed Christians. We love them unconditionally and so does God. That set me on a search of the Bible. Because it seemed important to my younger son that I should attend Gay Pride in Liverpool, I agreed to do so. I was overwhelmed by the reception I received as I held my 'God Loves Gays' sign. Apparently some religious people had been holding up a 'God hates Faggots' sign nearer the start of the procession. Hopefully this book will strike at those who judge others and who, by their very actions, condemn themselves. I want everyone to know that they are loved by God. He couldn't love them more than He does at this precise moment. Jesus came to show us that God loves us just as we are. He gave His life on the cross to display the full extent of that love. He tells us Himself that He did not come into the world to condemn people. God wants each one of us to run to Him, like the prodigal stinking of pigs, dirty and full of sin. No strings attached and if we do then he will kill the fattened calf, arrange the karaoke and even get some angels in on the jamboree. Sadly in the background will be religious people who can't stand fun but prefer to 'tut' - One of the chapters is headed 'God Invented Sex' - Too many seem to think that God doesn't like sex. He told the first couple, "Be fruitful and multiply!" And there's only one way to do that. Hopefully the book is fun. I sensed a twinkle in God's eye as I stood at Gay Pride and a chuckle as I set to writing this book. I hope you enjoy it and that it will cause you to run towards your loving creator with arms open wide just like his are towards you. I believe that the Bible is God breathed and that God is still breathing His life through His word. I believe that the Scriptures are 100% inspired. But I also believe that there is a progression - According to God's written law the woman caught in the act of adultery ought to have been stoned to death but Jesus rode roughshod over His Father's law and in certain other places it is clear that God changed His mind. Read on with a mind open to hear His voice. Inviting God into your life is to open yourself to the real fun. The devil is the kill-joy. God loves you massively and He couldn't love you one iota more than He does right now. I didn't know what to expect as I began writing this book but I found that He is aching to be loved by His creation. - Every single penny, dime, cent which I receive from each one of my books goes to Teenage Cancer Trust.

Book excerpt: At 14, David Bennett came out to his parents. At 19, he encountered Jesus Christ. At that moment, his life changed forever. As a young gay man, David Bennett saw Christianity as an enemy to freedom for LGBTQI people, and his early experiences with prejudice and homophobia led him to become a gay activist. But when Jesus came into his life in a highly unexpected way, he was led down a path he never would have predicted or imagined. In A War of Loves, David recounts his dramatic story, from his early years exploring new age religions and French existentialism to his university experiences as an activist. Following supernatural encounters with God, he embarked on a journey not only of seeking to reconcile his faith and sexuality but also of discovering the higher call of Jesus Christ. A War of Loves investigates what the Bible teaches about sexuality and demonstrates the profligate, unqualified grace of God for all people. David describes the joy and intimacy he found in following Jesus Christ and how love has taken on a radically new and far richer meaning for him.

Book The Gaying of America The Love of God

Download or read book The Gaying of America The Love of God written by M.A.R. and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2014 with total page 151 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What does God say about homosexuality? How does this differ from what society says? Is homosexuality wrong? Does God hate gays? Rarely will you encounter a book which speaks both of the love of God and homosexuality. Homosexuality usually elicits blasts of judgment from the religious community, and not love. The Gaying of America and the Love of God reconciles these three seemingly opposing topics explaining how God views the behaviors of His most precious creation, humanity. Jesus' response when confronted with sexual misgivings is telling of what the religious community's attitude should be on this exploding topic. An examination of Abraham also reveals a surprising reaction from the patriarch of three of the world's largest religions. What influence will gay marriage have on the fate of the United States of America? This book brings God's perspective to this conversation, in an attempt to bring all communities together, including those in the LGBT community. A truly prophetic call to the church and to the modern world.

Book God Believes in Love

Download or read book God Believes in Love written by Gene Robinson and published by Vintage. This book was released on 2013-06-04 with total page 210 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From the IX Bishop of the Diocese of New Hampshire in the Episcopal Church, the first openly gay person elected to the episcopate and the world’s leading religious spokesperson for gay rights and gay marriage—a groundbreaking book that persuasively makes the case for same-sex marriage using a commonsense, reasoned, religious argument. Robinson holds the religious text of the Bible to be holy and sacred and the ensuing two millennia of church history to be relevant to the discussion. He is equally familiar with the secular and political debate about gay marriage going on in America today, and is someone for whom same-sex marriage is a personal issue; Robinson was married to a woman for fourteen years and is a father of two children and has been married to a man for the last four years of a twenty-five-year relationship. Robinson has a knack for taking complex and controversial issues and addressing them in plain direct language, without using polemics or ideology, putting forth his argument for gay marriage, and bringing together sacred and secular points of view.

Book Loving Homosexuals as Jesus Would

Download or read book Loving Homosexuals as Jesus Would written by Chad W. Thompson and published by Brazos Press. This book was released on 2004-11-01 with total page 192 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Chances are you know someone who is gay--a coworker, family member, or friend. And chances are, as a Christian, you're not exactly sure how to relate to this person. While the church has been pretty good at "hating the sin," it hasn't really known how to "love the sinner" without fear of condoning a homosexual lifestyle. Chad Thompson, a man who has struggled with homosexual feelings, argues that "homosexuality needs to be solved through relationships." Drawing from the life and words of Jesus, Thompson gives readers permission to love and befriend homosexuals before they change--and radically, even if they never change--their sexual orientation. This candid book includes an appendix of additional resources. It will be a valuable tool for pastors, teachers, counselors, and any Christian who knows someone who is gay.

Book My Jesus Loves Gays

    Book Details:
  • Author : Robert Williams
  • Publisher :
  • Release : 2019-07-30
  • ISBN : 9781798844342
  • Pages : 104 pages

Download or read book My Jesus Loves Gays written by Robert Williams and published by . This book was released on 2019-07-30 with total page 104 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ask any LGBTQ person where they feel most uncomfortable, most judged, and least loved, they invariably say that it is at church and around religious people. As the pastor of a church, Robert Williams is heartbroken by that reality. Jesus would not reject, judge, and condemn LGBTQ people. He loves them and expects his followers to do the same.It was Jesus, after all, who said, "Let any one of you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone." It was Jesus who touched the outcasts and welcomed all varieties of sinners to join him at his table. It was Jesus who leveled the playing field by calling all people to repentance, teaching that no one is a greater or worse sinner than others, and that no sinner is beyond his mercy. By examining the gospels and considering the narrative story of the Bible, a clear picture of how Jesus responds to LGBTQ people emerges. It is a picture of loving embrace. Jesus loves everyone, and LGBTQ people are no exception. If Jesus loves gay people, then those who follow him should do not less.

Book The Triumph of Love

    Book Details:
  • Author : Eric Reitan
  • Publisher : Wipf and Stock Publishers
  • Release : 2017-07-31
  • ISBN : 1498296262
  • Pages : 306 pages

Download or read book The Triumph of Love written by Eric Reitan and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2017-07-31 with total page 306 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Recent years have witnessed an astonishing cultural and legal shift when it comes to homosexuality and same-sex marriage. Many Christians see these changes as a defeat for Christian values, often painting Christian opponents as sell-outs to secular culture. But can there be a genuinely Christian case for same-sex marriage? This book makes that case. While sensitive to scriptural issues, it focuses on a question that cannot be answered by Scripture alone: What does love for our gay and lesbian neighbors demand? This question calls us to pair theological, philosophical, and scriptural reflection with something else: attention to gay and lesbian lives. We must attend to the psychological research and, more importantly, to the stories our gay and lesbian neighbors tell us about themselves and their experience. Love does not permit us to plug our ears with Bible verses. While this book argues that Christian love calls us to make same-sex marriage available, the deeper conclusion is that Christian values prevail when we wrestle with these questions in a spirit of love: love for those with whom we disagree, and love for those most affected by the decisions we reach.

Book Does Jesus Really Love Me

Download or read book Does Jesus Really Love Me written by Jeff Chu and published by Harper Collins. This book was released on 2014-04-15 with total page 299 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “Fascinating, thoughtful, and important. [Jeff Chu] captures the fractures and conflict at a moment when the issue of what to do with L.G.B.T. people is tearing Christian denominations apart. Does Jesus Really Love Me? deserves to be widely read.” —Dan Savage, New York Times Book Review In this timely work—part memoir, part investigative analysis—a prize-winning writer explores the explosive and confusing intersection of faith, politics, and sexuality in Christian America. When Jeff Chu came out to his parents as a gay man, his devout Christian mother cried. And cried. Every time she looked at him. For months. As a journalist and a believer, Chu knew that he had to get to the heart of a question that had been haunting him for years: Does Jesus really love me? The quest to find an answer propels Chu on a remarkable cross-country journey to discover the God “forbidden to him” because of his sexuality. Surveying the breadth of the political and theological spectrum, from the most conservative viewpoints to the most liberal, he tries to distill what the diverse followers of Christ believe about homosexuality and to understand how these people who purportedly follow the same God and the same Scriptures have come to hold such a wide range of opinions. Why does Pastor A believe that God hates me, especially because of my gayness? Why does Person B believe that God loves me, gayness and all? From Brooklyn to Nashville to California, from Westboro Baptist Church and their god hates fags protest signs to the pioneering Episcopal bishop Mary Glasspool, who proclaims a message of liberation and divine love, Chu captures spiritual snapshots of Christian America at a remarkable moment, when tensions between both sides in the culture wars have rarely been higher. Both funny and heartbreaking, perplexing and wise, Does Jesus Really Love Me? is an intellectual, emotional, and spiritual pilgrimage that reveals a portrait of a faith and a nation at odds.
