Book The Love Response

Download or read book The Love Response written by Eva M. Selhub, M.D. and published by Ballantine Books. This book was released on 2009-01-27 with total page 258 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fear, anger, and anxiety–the side effects of life’s everyday stresses–are natural and sometimes helpful, but left unchecked they can lead to a host of debilitating ailments that are now so common we assume they are unavoidable: heart disease, arthritis, gastrointestinal problems, depression, and more. There is good news, though: The key to a healthy life free of these conditions is to activate what Harvard Medical School instructor Dr. Eva Selhub calls the love response: a series of biochemical reactions that lower blood pressure, heart rate, respiration, and adrenaline levels, stimulating physical healing and reinstating balance and well-being. A practical life-healing program, the first of its kind, The Love Response is the result of Dr. Selhub’s years of research–and clinical practice–on how to reverse the destructive physical effects of fear and stress, and banish emotional wounds from the past. Through a simple-to-use plan of awareness, breathing, visualization, and verbal command exercises, The Love Response reprograms your brain and changes your biochemistry from negative to positive, putting you on a path to long-term wellness and happiness. The Love Response is structured around the three essential building blocks of mental health: • social love–connecting not only in your intimate relationships but with family, friends, and pets • self-love–learning to nurture yourself with care and tenderness (often the hardest step) • spiritual love–contributing in meaningful ways to the world beyond your personal needs The Love Response provides all the tools you need to transform anger into compassion, release your fears, overcome shame, embrace self-acceptance, connect through empathy, and, ultimately, strengthen your natural ability to heal.

This fully revised and updated edition also includes new guidance on how to manage disagreements, as well as new exercises to help you create a sense of safety and security, establish healthy conflict ground rules, and deal with the threat of the third—any outside source which threatens the harmony in your relationship, including in-laws, alcohol, children, and affairs. While there’s no doubt that love is an inexact science, if you understand how you and your partner are wired differently, you can overcome your differences, and create a lasting intimate connection.

Book Rx for Waiting

Download or read book Rx for Waiting written by Erika Washington and published by Covenant Books, Inc.. This book was released on 2023-11-29 with total page 85 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven: A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted; A time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up; A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance; A time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing; A time to get, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away; A time to rend, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak; A time to love, and a time to hate; a time of war, and a time of peace. (Ecclesiastes 3:1-8) I picked these verses to begin the ceremony of my wedding in 2007. In 2015, I found myself wishing those verses said a time to heal no more than one month, a time to break down no longer than three months, and a time to build up no longer than a year! A time to weep no more than a week. A time to mourn no longer than six months, but they don't. There are no time guidelines or limits. It just says there is a time and a purpose for everything. I was divorced and filled with questions about waiting, finding Mr. Right, and the next steps in my life. People told me to wait, and God would bring someone into my life. They gave me scripture and advice like "Wait, and when you least expect it, he'll appear." I wondered if they thought I was waiting on Casper. Oh, and I didn't want to wait. The advice was discouraging and contradictory. I was tired of being told to wait, but no one was able to tell me what to do while I waited. So I revisited a love study that I had completed before my divorce. I found that it provided some answers on real love, waiting and what to do while you're waiting. Some of the answers were difficult, and action was required on my part. It has been an emotional roller coaster, but the hope that it has brought into my life made the risk of change worthwhile. If you are waiting, preparing for marriage, in relationship turmoil, or starting over, you are not alone! I hope you can find some encouragement in Rx for Waiting.

Book The Rumi Prescription

Download or read book The Rumi Prescription written by Melody Moezzi and published by Penguin. This book was released on 2021-03-02 with total page 273 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A powerful personal journey to find meaning and life lessons in the words of a wildly popular 13th century poet. Rumi's inspiring and deceptively simple poems have been called ecstatic, mystical, and devotional. To writer and activist Melody Moezzi, they became a lifeline. In The Rumi Prescription, we follow her path of discovery as she translates Rumi's works for herself - to gain wisdom and insight in the face of a creative and spiritual roadblock. With the help of her father, who is a lifelong fan of Rumi's poetry, she immerses herself in this rich body of work, and discovers a 13th-century prescription for modern life. Addressing isolation, distraction, depression, fear, and other everyday challenges we face, the book offers a roadmap for living with intention and ease, and embracing love at every turn--despite our deeply divided and chaotic times. Most of all, it presents a vivid reminder that we already have the answers we seek, if we can just slow down to honor them. You went out in search of gold far and wide, but all along you were gold on the inside. Become the sky and the clouds that create the rain, not the gutter that carries it to the drain. You already own all the sustenance you seek. If only you'd wake up and take a peek. Quit being a drop. Make yourself an ocean.

Book Sex Crimes and Offenders

Download or read book Sex Crimes and Offenders written by Mary Clifford and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2022-05-02 with total page 613 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For decades, and in some cases centuries, individuals, families, and friends of victims sought out ways to help heal the hurts caused by sexual abuse and implement some way to protect against future harms. The recent very public conversations about victims standing up to perpetrators has expanded the reach and public platform of sexual violence prevention efforts in critical ways. What might appear a relatively simple task on the surface, to define “healthy” and “harmful” sexual practices, inevitably raises even more questions. When the questions and answers are framed and defined through historical, cultural, social, and individual lenses, solutions may seldom be simple. Structured in five parts, Sex Crimes and Offenders: Exploring Questions of Character and Culture uses healthy sexuality as a back drop for exploring the complicated issue of identifying and punishing sex crimes, defining the parameters of sexualized violence, and sexual violence prevention. The goal is to prevent harm, address hurts, hold perpetrators accountable, and eventually eliminate – to the degree possible—all future harms. The information presented explores individual treatment efforts, as well as the social and political responses designed to hold perpetrators accountable and help support victims. Essential resources made visible throughout this text are provided to help inform young people, families, faith communities and future practitioners, to raise important reflective questions, and to serve as a resource for anyone of any age who has suffered harm, or perpetrated harm, and is in need of support and healing. Finally, the book concludes by shining a light on the efforts each of us can take to identify, reduce, and work toward eliminating sexual violence and harms. Additional resources for Instructors, including PowerPoint Lecture Notes and Test Banks, are provided.
