Book excerpt: A coming-of-age travel memoir that probes thorny spiritual questions while taking the reader on a wild ride from the deep American South to the Middle East, Europe, and the Far East. Once the golden girl of her Arkansas town, Natalie finds herself squeezed under small town shame and rejection after being kicked out of church for getting a divorce. It’s a hard fall off of a sanctimonious high horse, and religious fundamentalism has left her feeling broken and stuck. But she can’t shake the ‘wanderlust woes’ that have plagued her since childhood, so she runs away to the Middle East. As a mostly-sheltered Southerner, she struggles to adapt but is determined to be ‘at home’ in the world. Her journey is more than a pilgrimage, it’s a peregrination: a one-way ticket to elsewhere in search of the place of her own resurrection. Within these pages is a suspenseful adventure filled with love, loss, laughter, tears, and a little bit of scandalous behavior, but at the heart of it, Natalie walks squarely into the unknown to confront the secret matters of the soul that we wrestle with at night.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: If you have ever been afraid of GOD. Seeking answers and complication get in your way. Wanting to know that you are truly saved. Wanting everything; but finding nothing. Wanting to knock on GOD's door but can't find it; or does it even exist? THIS BOOK IS FOR YOU In today's world people are interested in their spiritual growth, and many books and classes are available. The authors give their opinions and facts in all different types of methods. This was not available in the years that this author was raised. In 1960 things were very different. The word GOD was never used outside of religious gatherings. We were taught that we must love GOD. Did we? Or were we afraid not to, for various reasons. Questions were not asked, since there were no answers. The author never realized that it was possible for GOD to give us another way, that would help us obtain our true destination, to strive for our good dreams, which were held inside of us. He did and still does. In October 1960 she felt GOD's love and wrote down His inner soft words because she knew they were Sacred. -GOD CREPT UP ON ME. I KNOW NOT FROM WHERE, BUT WHEN I TURNED AROUND I FOUND HIM, HERE, THERE AND EVERYWHERE.- At the time, she did not realize it, but her first Mystical Experience began. There would be four more, through the years, each lasting one week. This book contains the author's 43 year Spiritual Journey which leads to the Glorification of GOD. He lead, she followed. At times she lead and He walked along side of her or through her. She surrendered to His love and found the Peace, Love and Joy that is available to others also. It is not easy to share something that is very sacred to you. When you begin to acknowledge that it is GOD's will and desire, you begin cautiously and receive the strength of GOD behind you and sometimes opening up a path, which eventually completes the mission.

This book was released on 2022-09-14 with total page 457 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "A valuable reference guide for film collections and LGBTQIA+ studies." — Library Journal, Starred Review The depictions of LGBTQIA+ characters in film have always varied immensely. However, the negative depictions often seem to outweigh the positive, perhaps because of the hurt they inspire or perhaps because they regrettably outnumber the positive films. The Encyclopedia of LGBTQIA+ Portrayals in American Film explores works from the past fifty years in order to not only discuss how LGBTQIA+ characters are portrayed in American film, but also how these portrayals affect viewers. Contributors to this valuable reference include film and media scholars, gender studies scholars, journalists, LGBTQIA+ advocates, and more, representing countries from around the world. This rich array of perspectives provide careful and critical examinations of more than 100 films, ranging from the ethical and compassionate to the deliberately cruel and destructive. Featuring films such as American Beauty, Batman v Superman, Fight Club, The Grand Budapest Hotel, Little Miss Sunshine, and Venom, this extensive volume informs and educates scholars and general readers alike, guiding them to see injustice more clearly and inspiring future generations to create art that is both inclusive and thoughtful.

Download or read book An Introduction to Japanese Court Poetry written by Earl Roy Miner and published by Stanford University Press. This book was released on 1968 with total page 198 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The poetry written by the Japanese imperial court between A.D. 550 and 1350 is one of the great literatures of the world. The present volume, an introduction to that literature, is at once a condensation, a reorganization, and an extension (to A.D. 1500) of Japanese Court Poetry (1961), by the author and Robert H. Brower, the standard treatment of the subject is in English. The book's five central chapters are devoted to the major court poets and their work; other chapters deal with the forms, assumptions, and themes of court poetry. The author's emphasis throughout is on the human and cultural values of this poetic tradition. Over 150 poems are included in both transliteration and translation. Many of the translations are joint efforts with Professor Bower; others are new translations by the author. The approach to the poems is essentially critical, and draws on the findings of recent Japanese scholarship.
