Book Speed Control of Interior Permanent Magnet Synchronous Machine

Download or read book Speed Control of Interior Permanent Magnet Synchronous Machine written by Jigneshkumar Desai and published by GRIN Verlag. This book was released on 2022-09-27 with total page 61 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Document from the year 2022 in the subject Engineering - General, grade: 12, , language: English, abstract: The creation of a simulation model for closed loop vector controlled IPMSM drive performance enhancement and speed control is described in this book. By regulating the torque component of the current, the model achieves superior speed tracking and rapid dynamic response under transient and steady-state circumstances. The control technique is used by both the proportional and integrated controllers in the PI controller. Combining two independent controllers and reducing the shortcomings of each results in a more effective controller. To offer optimal speed operation in the face of environmental changes, load variations, and structural disturbances, the Fuzzy Logic Controller for PMSM must be properly constructed. Using MATLAB Simulink, this book gives a comprehensive simulation of an internal permanent magnet synchronous motor driving system. Interior permanent magnet synchronous motors (IPMSMs) are used to improve machine performance and offer rapid torque response. IPMSMs are utilised in low and medium-power applications such as servos, robotics, variable-speed motors, electric vehicles, and computer peripherals. Because PM motor drives are becoming more popular, simulation systems capable of handling motor drive simulations are in great demand. Simulation tools can dynamically simulate motor drives in a visual environment, saving money and time and easing the development of new systems.

Book VF PMSMs for Reduced Driving Cycle Loss Using Magnetization State Manipulation Estimation and Control

Download or read book VF PMSMs for Reduced Driving Cycle Loss Using Magnetization State Manipulation Estimation and Control written by Apoorva Athavale and published by . This book was released on 2018 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Variable flux permanent magnet synchronous machines (VF-PMSMs) designed to use a combination of low coercive force (low-Hc) and high coercive force (high-Hc) permanent magnets to manipulate the total magnet flux linkage are developed in this research. Key design objectives include meeting the peak torque and power specifications for an electric vehicle traction motor, while maximizing the loss reduction capability achieved by manipulating the magnetization state (MS). VF-PMSMs with a series configuration of low-Hc and high-Hc magnets have properties that are suitable for electric vehicles (EVs). To effectively control MS and minimize losses, this research develops a closed-loop MS control method and the MS estimation methods required for the feedback. A detailed evaluation of the MS estimation methods in terms of the implementation issues, estimation accuracy over a wide range of operating conditions, as well as transient performance characteristics is documented. The accuracy of the closed-loop MS controller across various torque-speed operating points and its effectiveness in reducing driving cycle losses accounting for the losses induced by the MS manipulation process and its thermal impact is evaluated experimentally. The power scalability of the proposed VF-PMSM design methods is investigated. A tradeoff between the inverter cost to meet power demand and the battery cost to supply the energy losses in the traction system is identified. Traction system design examples for a range of power specifications (80 - 300 kW), for various types of EVs are presented.

Book Minimization of Torque Ripple in Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motors Through Direct Torque Control

Download or read book Minimization of Torque Ripple in Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motors Through Direct Torque Control written by Kevin N.L. Heward-Mills and published by . This book was released on 2018 with total page 36 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Permanent Magnet motors are of pertinent use in factory automation, machine tool applications, electric vehicles, robotics applications and many others. Within these industries, the measure of accuracy that is required on a constant basis is stymied by the common obstacle of harmonic ripple in torque, caused by discrepancies in flux within the air-gap of the motors. This ripple reflects in performance of the motor drive and consequently causes a harmonic disturbance in stator current. In order to understand this phenomenon and come about various remedial practices, a detailed study is carried out in this project to investigate the causes of torque ripple in permanent magnet synchronous motor drives, and the methods used in the minimization of this ripple. Minimization of these ripples in torque would prove essential to save erroneous manufacturing deviations that they characterize in the above-mentioned industry applications. It would also help in saving industrial financial resources, increase reliability, as well as save time spent in corrections of these errors. A model is presented in MATLAB/Simulink to implement the Direct Torque approach of ripple minimization.

Book The Optimal Application of Common Control Techniques to Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motors

Download or read book The Optimal Application of Common Control Techniques to Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motors written by William Treharne and published by . This book was released on 2011 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Permanent magnet synchronous motors are finding ever increasing use in hybrid and electric vehicles. This thesis develops a new control strategy for Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motors (PMSMs) to reduce the motor and inverter losses compared to conventional control techniques. The strategy utilises three common control modes for PMSMs; brushless DC with 1200E conduction, brushless DC with 1800E conduction, and brushless AC control. The torque and power output for each control mode is determined for an example motor system using a three phase axial flux VASA motor and an IGBT inverter. The loss components for the motor and inverter are also estimated using a combination of analytical and simulation techniques and results are then validated against experimental measurements. Efficiency maps for each control mode have been used to determine an optimal mode utilisation strategy, which minimises the total system losses and maximises the available motor torque output. The proposed control strategy switches between the three control modes without interruption of motor torque to maximise the system efficiency for the instantaneous operating speed and demanded torque output. The benefits of the new strategy are demonstrated using an example vehicle over a simulated drive cycle. This yields a 10% reduction in losses compared to conventional brush less AC control.
