Luego de estudiar en el Instituto Salesiano de Filosofía y Teología en Cracovia (1947-1949) y Oswiecim (1950-1954) se graduó en Teología Católica en la Universidad de Jagiello en Cracovia y obtuvo la Licenciatura en Estudios Bíblicos -se especializó en la historia y la arqueología del Antiguo Testamento- en el Instituto Bíblico Pontificio de Roma (1959-1962). Completó sus estudios en un viaje al Cercano Oriente, donde pasó varios meses en Tierra Santa. Zenon Ziólkowski es un miembro de la Asociación Católica Polaca de Eruditos de la Biblia y desde 1972 también ha estado trabajando en la Sociedad Bíblica ecuménica de Polonia.
