Book Lordship and Discipleship

Download or read book Lordship and Discipleship written by Eduard Schweizer and published by . This book was released on 1960 with total page 148 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A classic study of Christian Iife in changing cultures, between the New Testament and the present day, first published in English in 1960 and long unavailable. `It is impossible to distil a pure creed. Every generation must proclaim the gospel in its own terms. It is foolish to withhold belief from the creeds of another generation simply because we cannot use their language today. But it is just as foolish to assent to all the creeds together, as if orthodoxy were like some cafeteria where you are obliged to eat something of everything... The New Testament contributors were courageous enough to be one-sided. They made their choice, and preached the message in terms their hearers could grasp, opposing clearly the special dangers of their time and place. Must our younger generation (or to take a quite different example, the Japanese people) first be converted to a Hebrew or Greek way of thinking in order to be able to receive the gospel? Or may we, without denying the old creeds, proclaim the same truth in the West, perhaps in terms of the meaning of God's acts for our existence, and in Japan, perhaps in quite different terms?'

Book Lordship Vs Discipleship

Download or read book Lordship Vs Discipleship written by Dr. James W. Huntley and published by Author House. This book was released on 2013-08-19 with total page 439 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book has been designed to culminate a study on our position with God as disciples. We have not been chosen to assume the position as Lords. We must not usurp the position as a Lord. We have not been chosen to be served but to serve; therefore, this book will explain, in detail, our callings and limitations as it refers to our position and anointing. This book does not indicate how anointed you are. It only references that your anointing cannot be any greater than God has chosen to give unto you. This book will list in detail that authority has to be given and not taken. Therefore, as our Master and King God alone grants us the power and authority as he chooses to disseminate amid the Body of Christ. This book has been designed to explain that we are not Lords but disciples. A disciple is a follower and student of a mentor, teacher, or other figure. The higher our calling, the greater our servitude should be. Additionally, we are considered as Servant Leaders. Servant leadership is both a leadership philosophy and set of leadership practices. Traditional leadership generally involves the accumulation and exercise of power by one at the top of the pyramid. By comparison, the servant-leader shares power but most importantly puts the needs of others first and helps people develop and perform as highly as possible. Therefore, I have attempted to reference in detail our positions and appointments and what the scripture indicates in reference to our responsibilities with that calling and position. Although we are powerful and full of an anointing by God, we must understand that whatever God has given we should utilize it to complete the work of God and not our personal agendas. Furthermore, it is not our will that should be implemented but that of God and him alone. When we understand our position with God, we can perform our duties with greater convictions and at a higher level.

Book The Gospel According to Jesus

Download or read book The Gospel According to Jesus written by John F. MacArthur and published by Zondervan. This book was released on 2009-05-26 with total page 308 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What is authentic faith? The Gospel According to Jesus challenges Christians to re-evaluate their commitment to Christ by examining their fruits. MacArthur asks, "What does it really mean to be saved?" He urges readers to understand that their conversion was more than a mere point in time, that, by definition, it includes a lifetime of obedience. John MacArthur tackles the error of "easy-believism" by addressing these questions: Is it possible to accept Jesus as Savior while refusing him as Lord? Can someone truly believe without actually repenting? How do obedience, commitment to Christ, and turning from sin fit together with the truth that we are saved by grace through faith alone? The Gospel According to Jesus is just as powerful today as it was more than two decades ago. It is a Scripture-based clarion call for a rejection of the watered-down message that has gained popularity in the church and a return to the gospel Jesus preached. This 20th anniversary edition adds a powerful new chapter to the complete text of the original classic, reinforcing the book's timeless message—that Jesus demands to be both Savior and Lord to all who believe. This book is compulsory reading for Christians from all walks of life and will help guide you into a deeper relationship with Jesus Christ.

Download or read book Lord Disciple Me written by Richard Mull and published by Destiny Image Publishers. This book was released on 2005-04 with total page 241 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Jesus commanded all of his disciples to "go and make disciples of all nations." This book dares you to examine how Jesus Himself made disciples. What is discipleship, according to Jesus? Can the church today possess the power of the early church? Does God still use His people to heal the sick? Are miracles and deliverance still part of Jesus' disciple making agenda? Richard Mull's honest account of his personal journey toward biblical discipleship presents a dilemma for twenty-first century believers: Will you adopt a system of belief that explains why we disciple differently than Jesus did, or admit that in spite of our education and experience, we may not be making disciples according to Jesus' teaching? God desires to take you on a journey much like that of Jesus' first disciples, who learned to do what Jesus was doing by observing Him in action and obeying what He taught. Lord, Disciple Me will challenge you to develop a biblical foundation for your journey. Jesus will provide the hand-on experience!

Beginning with a clear understanding of God s grace and using a unique paradigm of A Truth, B Truth, you will discover from the context whether the passage is about salvation or the Christian life. In this book Dr. Charles Bing will help you to answer the questions: Is becoming a Christian the same as becoming a disciple? Do I have to work to earn or keep my salvation? How many good works do I need to prove I am saved? Can I be absolutely certain I am going to heaven? How should I deal with doubts about my salvation? How does sin affect my relationship with God? How can I have a richer experience of God in this life and the next? A correct understanding of salvation and discipleship is crucial to understanding the Bible and growing in the Christian life. Only when we clearly understand what God says can we effectively share a clear gospel, be assured of our salvation, and grow in our relationship with Him. Drawing on key biblical texts, Vern Poythress explores what acknowledging the authority of Christ means for the way we should think and act. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ask a crowd of Christians whether they believe in Jesus as Lord and Savior, and all hands will go up. Ask the same crowd whether they live like Jesus, and most of those same hands will come down. Why is this? Why is it so hard to bridge the gap between belief and real life? Respected author, professor, and psychologist Gary W. Moon thinks it has to do with our hyper-intellectual but non-experiential method of living the Christian life. In this winsome book Moon provides a thirty-day apprenticeship with Jesus, whereby readers will actively practice being with Jesus day in and day out. Each day's reading uses compelling stories and scripture to illustrate a point and closes with a suggested apprenticeship activity.

Download or read book The Great Omission written by Dallas Willard and published by Zondervan. This book was released on 2006-06-13 with total page 260 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The last command Jesus gave the church before he ascended to heaven was the Great Commission, the call for Christians to "make disciples of all the nations." But Christians have responded by making "Christians," not "disciples." This, according to brilliant scholar and renowned Christian thinker Dallas Willard, has been the church's Great Omission. "The word disciple occurs 269 times in the New Testament," writes Willard. "Christian is found three times and was first introduced to refer precisely to disciples of Jesus. . . . The New Testament is a book about disciples, by disciples, and for disciples of Jesus Christ. But the point is not merely verbal. What is more important is that the kind of life we see in the earliest church is that of a special type of person. All of the assurances and benefits offered to humankind in the gospel evidently presuppose such a life and do not make realistic sense apart from it. The disciple of Jesus is not the deluxe or heavy-duty model of the Christian -- especially padded, textured, streamlined, and empowered for the fast lane on the straight and narrow way. He or she stands on the pages of the New Testament as the first level of basic transportation in the Kingdom of God." Willard boldly challenges the thought that we can be Christians without being disciples, or call ourselves Christians without applying this understanding of life in the Kingdom of God to every aspect of life on earth. He calls on believers to restore what should be the heart of Christianity -- being active disciples of Jesus Christ. Willard shows us that in the school of life, we are apprentices of the Teacher whose brilliance encourages us to rise above traditional church understanding and embrace the true meaning of discipleship -- an active, concrete, 24/7 life with Jesus.

Book The Doctrines of Grace

Download or read book The Doctrines of Grace written by James Montgomery Boice and published by Crossway. This book was released on 2009-04-01 with total page 242 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There is no question that we live in an age of weak theology and casual Christianity. We have substituted intuition for truth, feeling for belief and immediate gratification for enduring hope. Evangelicalism desperately needs to return to the doctrines that once before reformed the world: radical depravity, unconditional election, particular redemption, efficacious grace and persevering grace. James Boice and Philip Ryken not only provide a compelling exposition on these doctrines of grace, but also look briefly at their historical impact. The authors leave no doubt that the church suffers when these foundational truths are neglected and that she must return to a Christianity that is practical-minded, kind-hearted, and most importantly, biblically based.

Download or read book The Good Soil written by Allen C. Hughes and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2021-03-19 with total page 159 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The good soil of our life is generated through the actions and habits of discipleship. Discipleship is the lifelong pursuit of learning to live a life under the guidance and care of God. We can live a life where we are guided and led by the perfect Father! We can experience the fruits of the good soil: a joy that goes beyond our circumstances, a peace that satisfies, work that is meaningful, and a love that abides. Unfortunately, in our culture the word "discipleship" has been misunderstood, misapplied, reduced, and in some cases used to manipulate serious men and women who desire to walk faithfully with the living God. The result is that many Christians live with an anemic understanding of discipleship, which limits their relationship with God, confuses their vocation, and keeps most Christians frustrated and on the periphery of the full Christian life. When discipleship is truly and fully engaged, what follows is an abundant life from God, full of gifts, challenges, meaning, and direction. This is the life I believe all Christians truly desire and I believe this book will help you move in that direction.
