Book Lords of the Manor 2023 First Edition

Download or read book Lords of the Manor 2023 First Edition written by The Manorial So Of England and Wales and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2022-12-30 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is The Manorial Society of England and Wales 2023 register. The Society was created by its founders due to their interests in genealogy and the manorial system/seignorialism. It has developed as one of its aims a desire to produce a searchable database of those holding manorial titles in England and Wales, something that has become of greater significance since HM Land Registry stopped recording such interests. HM Land Registry maintains an index of registered manors, however this index of lordship titles stopped receiving new registrations since October 13th 2013. Titles already listed are updated but there was no legal requirement to register such titles and so many never were. This is inline with the Land Registration Act 2002, which stopped the ability of an individual to register a Manorial Title as outlined in the Land Registration Act 1925. Disclaimer- The information held within this publication is accurate at the time of publication to the best of our knowledge and after reasonable levels of research. If an update is required due to new information then this will be placed on all websites connected with The Manorial Society of England and Wales TM and their Manorial Title listing for the next publication of this book. Listings made are for the last registered title holder and/or the last known title holder. All entries are to be read as to hold the note that the holder is the person herewithin listed or their rightful heirs and successors. We have contacted all reputable organisations and requested information from their members to help build this list, as well as utilising entries from the London Gazette and HM Land Registry. Where such information was forthcoming it has been used, unless further information was obtained that improved the individual entry. Where individuals have submitted applications to be included within this publication we have included them as persons claiming the relevant manorial title. If there is conflicting information the entry has not been made, or this has been noted in this publication. In such cases this is not to be taken to mean that any person or organisation putting forward related information is not doing so in good faith. All works and research connected with this publication are the intellectual property of The Manorial Society of England and Wales TM. Some Manorial Titles can be very similar to others or identical but refer to another place, sometimes in another county.

Book The Flora of Hampshire

Download or read book The Flora of Hampshire written by Anne Brewis and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2023-07-03 with total page 406 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This totally new and much needed work on the County’s flora – published in association with the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust – is the first comprehensive study for nearly a century. Excluding the Isle of Wight, it contains over 1750 species of vascular plants including some non-indigenous speces as well as subspecies, varieties and hybrids. In addition, condensed accounts of the lichens (590 taxa) and bryophytes (459 taxa) – groups in which the county is particularly rich – have been contributed by Francis Rose with Ken Sandell and Alan Crundwell respectively. As in Townsend’s Flora of Hampshire (1884), there are introductory chapters on Structure and Geology; Climate; Habitats; and an up-to-date Comparison of Hampshire’s Flora with some other southern Counties (including the Isle of Wight) – all by Francis Rose. There are also chapters on Conservation of the Flora (with a complete list of nature reserves) by Peter Brough and Paul Bowman; Some earlier Workers on the Hampshire Flora by David Allen; and Botanical Recording by Paul Bowman. The Flora ends with an extensive Bibliography and References and a fully comprehensive Index. The principal authors are all experienced Hampshire botanists with an intimate knowledge of its flora.

Book A Modern Legal History of Treasure

Download or read book A Modern Legal History of Treasure written by N.M. Dawson and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-04-06 with total page 639 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book examines treasure law and practice from the rise of the new science of archaeology in the early Victorian period to the present day. Drawing on largely-unexamined state records and other archives, the book covers several legal jurisdictions: England and Wales, Scotland, Ireland pre- and post-independence, and post-partition Northern Ireland. From the Mold gold cape (1833) to the Broighter hoard (1896), from Sutton Hoo (1939) to the Galloway hoard (2014), the law of treasure trove, and the Treasure Act 1996, are considered through the prism of notable archaeological discoveries, and from the perspectives of finders, landowners, archaeologists, museum professionals, collectors, the state, and the public. Literally and metaphorically, treasure law is revealed as a ground-breaking chapter in the history of the legal protection of cultural property and cultural heritage in Britain and Ireland.

Book The Manors and Historic Homes of the Hudson Valley

Download or read book The Manors and Historic Homes of the Hudson Valley written by Harold Donaldson Eberlein and published by State University of New York Press. This book was released on 2023-02-01 with total page 449 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Harold Donaldson Eberlein's The Manors and Historic Homes of the Hudson Valley has been considered an essential and elegant resource ever since its first publication by J.B. Lippincott in 1924. Profusely illustrated with drawings, classic prints, and photographs (many of the latter taken by the author himself), the book not only discusses the architecture and beauty of more than thirty-five historically relevant estates and homesteads, but also contextualizes their varied histories amid key social and political disruptions, ranging from the rise of the Dutch through to the American Revolution and the heyday of the patroonships overseen by such families as the Livingstons, the Van Rensselaers, and the Van Cortlandts. Eberlein saw the old manors and historic homes of the Hudson Valley as vital signposts to that history of the region— a history "inseparably bound up with the old houses that stand upon both banks of the river, and [a history which] without them ... would lose its dramatic force and become a dull, dead abstraction." This new edition features an introduction by historian Ed Renehan who sets the work in the context of its time, and many new photographs. This book is an indispensable resources for those interested in New York state history and the stories behind some of its best-loved homes.

Book Landmark Cases in Private International Law

Download or read book Landmark Cases in Private International Law written by William Day and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2023-05-18 with total page 499 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This collection of essays contains in-depth analyses of eighteen landmark cases in private international law, from Penn v Lord Baltimore in 1750 to Brownlie v FS Cairo (Nile Plaza) LLC in 2021. The contributors are experts drawn from academia and practice as well as from the bench. Case law has been a central driver in the legal development of the English conflict of laws. Judge-made law does not just supply a source of law itself but also acts as the crucible in which other sources of law – legislation, international Treaty, European regulation, and ideas generated by jurists such as Joseph Story and Albert Venn Dicey – have been tested and applied. This book sheds new light on the past and future evolution of private international law by focusing on the landmark cases which have fundamentally shaped the way that we think about this subject. The focus is on the English common law, but landmarks in Scotland, Australia and Canada are covered as well. Many of them concern disputes between commercial parties; others deal with issues such as marriage and domicile; and some arise from controversies in political, constitutional and international affairs. The landmark cases tackled in this collection address significant issues in civil jurisdiction, governing law, foreign judgments, and public policy. The essays place those landmarks in their historical context, explain their contemporary importance, and consider their future relevance.
