Book C S Lewis and Christian Postmodernism

Download or read book C S Lewis and Christian Postmodernism written by Kyoko Yuasa and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2016-04-19 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Employing a postmodernist literary approach, this book identifies C. S. Lewis both as an antimodernist and as a Christian postmodernist who tells the story of the gospel to twentieth- and twenty-first-century readers. Lewis is popularly known as an able Christian apologetic writer, talented in explaining Christian beliefs in simple, logical terms. But his fictional works feature expressions that erect ambiguous borders between nonfiction and fiction, an approach equivalent to those typical in postmodernist literature. Whereas postmodernist literature is full of many small micronarratives that deconstruct the Great Story, Lewis's fictional world is the reverse of this: in his world, multiple and small stories are chosen, but they also ultimately express the Story that transcends human understanding. Lewis's approach reflects both his opposition to modernist philosophy, which embraces solidified interpretation, and his criticism of modernized Christianity. Lewis's fictional works focus on the history of interpretation and, deconstructing interpretations of the previous age, seek a new model for interpretation. Both C. S. Lewis and postmodern writers force us to choose between alternative interpretations.

Book excerpt: Abused! The Preacher's Wife! Divorced! These were not my character traits or career choice, yet these associations and marks on my life gave me my public identity. This identity's influence was so strong it broke my personal courage. Could I break the silence and confess my pain to God? Would He hear my prayers and heal me if I walked away from ministry? Would He discard me, if I got a divorce? After taking an honest look at my life I truly wondered if He even loved me at all! For years I lived with the disconnection between the truth of God's Word, which proclaimed His Love for me, and my ability to dwell daily in the confident security that truth inspires. The distress in my heart was so great, and securing God's love seemed so elusive that I made attempts to cure myself. Unfortunately, I wound up causing myself greater injury as I sought out alternatives that I could intellectually grasp and measure up to. Each substitute for His love that I gathered failed me miserably...'til finally I answered God's question to me. "Janeen, will you let me love you?" After many hills, valleys, scrapes and falls, I placed my hand in His and made the discovery of a lifetime. He created me to Love me! I didn't have to beg, barter, or steal for love. The Love that I so desperately longed for was inside of me. All I had to do was "accept" and "receive" the awesome gift. But the twists and turns of the pathways travelled, to arrive at the place of clarity and wholeness, was an absolutely incredible...Journey to Love! I am so glad that God is Love. He miraculously loves me and you, in the midst of and through each of our life's pathways!

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: God's Grand Design By: William R. Arnold, Edited by Ms. Aurora Payad-Arnold God’s Grand Design is to restore mankind to its original state of sacred perfection after Adam and Eve fell and created the original sin of disobedience, hiding, and lying to the Lord. When God cursed the serpent for tempting Adam and Eve to be like God, he promised to send his only begotten Son to save humanity. He did via the incarnate word in the womb of the immaculately conceived Virgin Mary. God wants to be man and receive a new body to defeat death through Jesus Christ. Man wants to become God to receive eternal life. Man’s journey to become God starts from being an ignorant baby gaining knowledge, to a cowardly teenager obtaining courage, to an adult converting greed to generosity, to a wise man changing selfishness to unselfishness, and at last, to a free man able to think for himself in eternal service to God in his kingdom. The journey requires him to know right from wrong, good from evil, and God’s will from man’s will and thus defeat evil, worldly temptations, and demonic possession. Through Christ, God and man are destined to become one through three advents, making the God/Man Christ into the new human spirit (blessings). Then, the Man/God Jesus becomes the new human flesh to make all things perfect in the sight of God. Jesus Christ came as a priest on a donkey to decode the Torah, bring knowledge, and remove blindness to defeat sin. By his death and resurrection, he granted free redemption to man’s flesh to give him a new body. The second coming of Jesus Christ as thief in the night will bring awakening to remove deafness by teaching God’s truths to defeat evil. As a just judge on a cloud on his third advent, the Lord will remove mankind’s dumbness to defeat death. And then man can become worthy of receiving God’s rewards of paradise in heaven or heaven on earth.

Book Biblical Timeline to Faith

Download or read book Biblical Timeline to Faith written by Jesse H. Carter and published by LifeRich Publishing. This book was released on 2023-02-26 with total page 328 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Biblical Timeline to Faith deciphers biblical prophecies while presenting the dates in the Bible alongside the Gregorian and Julian calendars. Jesse H. Carter, who has been studying the Bible for twenty years, reveals the date Christ was born, the date of creation, the date of Christ's crucifixion, the date Israel left Egypt, and the dates Satan was bound in and loosed from the bottomless pit. He also lays out the seventy weeks of prophecy and explains how the number of the beast is calculated. The author also observes that fear for one’s eternal soul is the first step to faith. It is this fear that motivates us to get to know God. Fear is the beginning for all of us who seek God—and wisdom is the result. Filled with calendars charts, and figures to explain exactly when events occurred in the Bible, this book will serve as a valuable resource for Christians, scholars of history, and others.

Book The Journey to the Mayflower

Download or read book The Journey to the Mayflower written by Stephen Tomkins and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2020-01-07 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An authoritative and immersive history of the far-reaching events in England that led to the sailing of the Mayflower. 2020 brings readers the 400th anniversary of the sailing of the Mayflower—the ship that took the Pilgrim Fathers to the New World. It is a foundational event in American history, but it began as an English story, which pioneered the idea of religious freedom. The illegal underground movement of Protestant separatists from Elizabeth I’s Church of England is a story of subterfuge and danger, arrests and interrogations, prison and executions. It starts with Queen Mary’s attempts to burn Protestantism out of England, which created a Protestant underground. Later, when Elizabeth’s Protestant reformation didn’t go far enough, radicals recreated that underground, meeting illegally throughout England, facing prison and death for their crimes. They went into exile in the Netherlands, where they lived in poverty—and finally to the New World. Historian Stephen Tomkins tells this fascinating story—one that is rarely told as an important piece of English, as well as American, history—that is full of contemporary relevance: religious violence, the threat to national security, freedom of religion, and tolerance of dangerous opinions. This is a must-read book for anyone interested in the untold story of how the Mayflower came to be launched.
