Book Longitudinal trim Tests of a 0 059 scale Model of the Curtiss Wright XP 55 Airplane

Download or read book Longitudinal trim Tests of a 0 059 scale Model of the Curtiss Wright XP 55 Airplane written by George F. MacDougall and published by . This book was released on 1945 with total page 28 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Longitudinal-trim tests of a 0.059-scale model of the XP-55 airplane have been performed in the Langley 15-foot free-spinning tunnel. Various revisions in control and airplane configuration were tested with the model mounted on a longitudinal-trim rig at large positive and negative angles of attack. The tests showed that trim at either erect or inverted flat attitudes could be prevented by installing large wing tips with an extension of each of the wing-tip trimmers in conjunction with a large elevator with deflections of plus or minus 60 degrees on the model when the stick was free longitudinally.

This book was released on 1945 with total page 46 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Spin tests have been performed in the Langley 20-foot free-spinning tunnel on a 0.059-scale model of the Curtiss-Wright XP-55 airplane. For the tests, the model was modified as recommended by the NACA to improve the longitudinal-trim characteristics by installing a larger elevator with increased deflections and large wing tips with extensions to the wing-tip trimmers.

Book Full scale Tunnel Tests of a Flying Model of the Curtiss XP 55 Airplane

Download or read book Full scale Tunnel Tests of a Flying Model of the Curtiss XP 55 Airplane written by William J. Biebel and published by . This book was released on 1943 with total page 54 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Tests have been conducted in the NACA full-scale tunnel to provide data for estimating the longitudinal stability and control characteristics of the Curtiss XP-55 airplane. The XP-55 is a low-wing airplane with the engine and propeller located at the rear of the fuselage. Longitudinal and directional control are obtained by means of the "nose" elevator and by fins and rudders attached near the wing tips.

Book Power on Longitudinal stability and Control Tests of the 1 8 scale Model of the Brewster F2A Airplane Equipped with Full span Slotted Flaps and a New Horizontal Tail

Download or read book Power on Longitudinal stability and Control Tests of the 1 8 scale Model of the Brewster F2A Airplane Equipped with Full span Slotted Flaps and a New Horizontal Tail written by John G. Lowry and published by . This book was released on 1942 with total page 46 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Tests were made in the NACA 7- by 10-foot wind tunnel of the 1/8-scale model of the Brewster F2A airplane equipped with full-span slotted flaps and a new horizontal tail. The object of the tests was to determine the power-on static longitudinal stability and control characteristics of the model with a new horizontal tail. Some additional tests to determine the characteristics of the model, both in free air and near the ground, were made after certain modifications had been made to the horizontal tail.

Book Wind tunnel Tests of the 1 9 scale Model of the Curtiss XP 62 Airplane with Various Vertical Tail Arrangements

Download or read book Wind tunnel Tests of the 1 9 scale Model of the Curtiss XP 62 Airplane with Various Vertical Tail Arrangements written by Isidore G. Recant and published by . This book was released on 1943 with total page 110 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The effect of various vertical tail arrangements upon the stability and control characteristics of an XP-62 fighter model was investigated. Rudder-free yaw characteristics with take-off power and flaps deflected were satisfactory after dorsal fin modifications. Directional stability was obtained with all modified vertical tails. Satisfactory rudder effectiveness resulted partly because the dual-rotation propellers produced no asymmetric yawing moments. Pedal forces in sideslips were undesirably large but may be easily reduced.

Book Investigation of Lateral Control Near the Stall Analysis for Required Longitudinal Trim Characteristics and Discussion of Design Variables

Download or read book Investigation of Lateral Control Near the Stall Analysis for Required Longitudinal Trim Characteristics and Discussion of Design Variables written by Fred E. Weick and published by . This book was released on 1956 with total page 91 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It has been recognized for some time, and shown quantitatively by the results of flight tests, that low-speed lateral control of airplanes may be insured by a simple limitation of the maximum elevator deflection so that the maximum angle of attack maintainable is that which will still allow satisfactory lateral control characteristics. However, this procedure places severe requirements on the longitudinal trim characteristics of the airplane, inasmuch as this maximum elevator deflection must be adequate for the range of power settings and center-of-gravity locations encountered in flight. The purpose of this report is to provide the analytical means by which designers may estimate the elevator deflection required to trim in steady longitudinal flight and to demonstrate in a quantitative manner the effects on longitudinal trim of changes in some of the more important design parameters.
