Book Long term Study of Crowdfunding Platform

Download or read book Long term Study of Crowdfunding Platform written by Jinwook Chung and published by . This book was released on 2015 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Crowdfunding that is the combination word of crowdsourcing and funding makes people can start a business easily. Legislating JOBS act in US played a major role in removing restricted barriers of crowdfunding on public offerings of fence and private funds for small business. The growth speed of crowdfunding takes some beating. Through Kickstarter that is a popular crowdfunding platform and being considered the typical case of crowdfunding, 480 million dollars and more than half a billion dollars were invested in about 19 thousand and 22 projects for 2013 and 2014 respectively. But in spite of the rapid growth, the successful rate of projects at large is decreasing because of imprudent project launching. People just imagine a success story of some triumphant projects without any kind of preparedness when they launch a project. Up to now most of papers researched based on Kickstarter platform because it is the biggest crowdfunding site. But there is no research paper studying with the entire data yet. So, we gathered all the project's main pages in Kickstarter that are finished whether a project is funded or not from its launched date on 2009 to September, 2014. And we also collected all users' profile pages including initiators and backers. The goal of this research project is to analyze evolution of projects and users, investigate techniques and predict successfully funded projects and expected pledged funding levels, and providing intelligent search and discovery based on time series patterns of projects. To successfully achieve the goal, we propose to analyze all projects and users in Kickstarter toward understanding evolution of them over time and thus develop statistical models to automatically predict successfully funded projects and expected funding level. We used as many features as possible such as features being obtainable from text (project main, reward and biography description). Our result will be very helpful for people especially a person preparing a crowdfunding project to fulfill a dream.

Book Crowdfunding as a Financing Tool for NGO Projects An Analysis of Motivational Factors for Contribution

Download or read book Crowdfunding as a Financing Tool for NGO Projects An Analysis of Motivational Factors for Contribution written by Katharina Hauck and published by GRIN Verlag. This book was released on 2016-07-25 with total page 49 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Bachelor Thesis from the year 2015 in the subject Business economics - Investment and Finance, grade: 1,7, University of Applied Sciences Bielefeld (Wirtschaft und Gesundheit), language: English, abstract: Crowdfunding platforms give space to private persons and organizations to publish their projects online and ask for financial support. These projects can be either for profit or non-profit. Although data can, once put online, go viral in no time and become known to many people, there is still much effort needed to create an outstanding project which provides added value to the donor and is thus worth supporting and sharing. By far not every crowdfunding project is successful, and many fundraisers do not yet have the know-how to reach enough funders for their projects. Others even neglect to engage in crowdfunding in the first place, as new possibilities always come along with confusion and insecurity. The central aim of this thesis is therefore to examine how web-based crowdfunding projects must be designed and presented in order to satisfy prospective donors’ needs. The main focus lays on the initiation of the funding process. Prospects shall be convinced to become contributors to a crowdfunding campaign in a sustainable, long-term oriented manner. In order to come to the right conclusions, it is necessary to analyze both the fundraisers’ and the funders’ point of view. First of all, it needs to be clarified how crowdfunding works and what possibilities there are for German fundraisers to realize their campaigns in the most satisfactory manner. Several donation-based crowdfunding platforms in Germany offer different tools and features for their users, being both fundraisers and funders. Furthermore, it will be defined who must be addressed by crowdfunding campaigns and whether these people differ from regular offline donors. To become more specific, the German donors and their preferences in giving will be investigated, concerning both offline and online fundraising. For a more profound analysis of the donors’ insights, one has to go back to the very roots of charity and philanthropy: What motivates people to donate to charity? Both the funders’ characteristics and the fundraisers’ possibilities will be brought together when elaborating the incentives to contribute to a crowdfunding campaign. The design and content of the project page as well as the features of the crowdfunding platform should match the basic motives for becoming a donor. Some of the features already being offered by the platforms fulfill this precondition. In addition, there is potential for new tools making a contribution more probable and assuring long-term relationships to donors.

This book was released on 2013-12-04 with total page 129 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Currently, a new potential paragon of fundraising and financing, in particular crowd funding (CF) attracts a lot of attention. Basically, CF is an open call for capital, mainly via the internet, where the desired campaign can be evaluated and financially supported by a large group of individuals, the crowd. The matchmaking process between campaign creators and potential investors is mainly established by a standardized CF platform (CFP). Scientific discourse on CF is still nascent, since existing studies and papers focus on the potential of CF and its basic principles. Florian Danmayr addresses crowd funding platforms as object of his analysis and contributes to the body of literature by enhancing knowledge on the composition of the CFP market.

Book excerpt: This book aims to take stock and systemize existing knowledge on crowdfunding while providing overview of the industry, its regulatory environment and advancing the insight into the role of crowdfunding in the startup lifecycle. It is adopting an exploratory and phenomenon-based approach which is deemed appropriate when investigating rather new phenomena. Furthermore, the research combines survey and interview methodologies to assess the opinion and real-world behavior of different stakeholders in crowdfunding marketplace and identify gaps requiring further academic consideration. Empirical data was gathered using multiple interactive web-based questionnaires distributed to different stakeholders and “informed general public” mainly through the social networks (Linkedin, Facebook and Twitter) and direct solicitation of entrepreneurial associations, networks and online communities. The study conducted relies on both qualitative and quantitative analysis in attempt to find data patterns useful in future research and establish some managerial and policymaker recommendations based on limited evidence collected. The work adds value to this field through a 3-fold contribution: Taking a look at crowdfunding through the prism of SWOT analysis of the practice itself and Porter’s 5 forces analysis of crowdfunding platforms industry. Providing evidence in favor of implementing various degrees of regulation based on different crowdfunding categories, using the Italian case of equity-based crowdfunding regulation as a model. Finally, it yields some interesting findings on relevance of crowdfunding in the venture startup while pointing out key motivators which make entrepreneurs consider this fundraising option. Book The Long term Viability of Equity Crowdfunding

Download or read book The Long term Viability of Equity Crowdfunding written by Emily D. Bosley and published by . This book was released on 2015 with total page 54 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Small businesses often have a difficult time obtaining funding. With no credit history and little collateral, obtaining funding can be an insurmountable obstacle for small businesses. Because of this, many entrepreneurs are turning to a newer funding method, crowdfunding. Crowdfunding can broadly be defined as "the financing of a project or a venture by a group of individuals instead of professional parties" (Larralde and Schwienbacher, 2012). Typically, individuals or businesses create a campaign seeking to raise funds on a crowdfunding website. Equity crowdfunding to unaccredited investors was previously inaccessible in the United States due to securities regulations pertaining to equity offerings. The JOBS Act of 2012 made equity crowdfunding legal, and following the passage of this act, the SEC issued several regulations for crowdfunding issuers and "funding portals." This paper focuses on equity crowdfunding and its practicality in light of these new regulations. Upon examination of the JOBS Act, it seems that the regulation, costs, and risks involved with equity crowdfunding inhibit its long-term potential to be a viable funding method for early stage ventures and also as an investment vehicle for unaccredited investors. While the idea is promising, the burdens put upon the intermediaries and entrepreneurs severely diminish the practicality of equity crowdfunding.

Book Crowdfunding with Enhanced Reputation Monitoring Mechanism Fame

Download or read book Crowdfunding with Enhanced Reputation Monitoring Mechanism Fame written by Omid Torabi and published by Walter de Gruyter GmbH & Co KG. This book was released on 2020-02-10 with total page 160 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Crowdfunding is increasingly becoming a method of mobilizing project finance ventures, particularly in a sharing economy. Moreover, the element of risk sharing which is found in equity crowdfunding makes up the essence of Islamic finance. However, as with any type of risk-sharing contract, Islamic crowdfunding faces the problem of lack of trust and information asymmetry. The author employs a game theory approach to Islamic crowdfunding as a means to tackle the issue of information asymmetry through a "reputation mechanism" which is touted as one of the latest means of solving information asymmetry in web-based social networks. The primary objective of the reputation mechanism is to enable more efficient transactions in communities where cooperation is compromised by post-contractual opportunism or information asymmetry. The game theory approach in this study involves two different games: "without Fame" and "with Fame", and it is proposed that a "with Fame" crowdfunding game produces better results. The reputational mechanism in this research was also designed specifically to eliminate any potential moral hazards and minimize information asymmetry. In this study, "Fame" refers to the credibility of every individual within the crowdfunding system. Fame is a form of systematic, measurable and computable (implicit and explicit) reputation, which allows other members of the crowdfunding social network to better learn about the individual and their credibility.
