Download or read book Long Range Transport of Atmospheric Pollutants in the Atlantic Provinces written by and published by . This book was released on 1979 with total page 34 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this paper is to discuss issues pertaining to the long-range transport of atmospheric pollutants (LRTAP), to indicate the severity of the problem & possible consequences to New Brunswick, to locate research interests & sources of data in the Atlantic Provinces, and to identify information gaps. Issues discussed include the production of air pollutants in central Canada & north-east United States, the environmental impacts of acid rain on surface waters, Canadian activities relevant to the LRTAP problem, research & monitoring activities in the Atlantic Provinces, and the past involvement in LRTAP by the provincial environmental department. The paper concludes with recommendations to the Department of Environment for appropriate actions related to the LRTAP problem.

Book The Potential Impact of the Long Range Transport of Air Pollutants on Canadian Forests

Download or read book The Potential Impact of the Long Range Transport of Air Pollutants on Canadian Forests written by G. Alex Fraser and published by Hull, Quebec : Canadian Forestry Service. This book was released on 1985 with total page 52 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The effect of the long range transport of air pollutants (LRTAP)on forests is uncertain. A definitive scientific answer willrequire extensive scientific research over a period of years. Inthe interim, this study sheds considerable light on the potentialeffects. Using an iterative series of four questionnaires, expert opinion was solicited on the nature and extent of forestproductivity change and the likelihood of alternative forestproductivity effects under several different pollution scenarios. The results provide a realistic picture of the risk to Canadianforests from present and potential future levels of pollution.

Book Global Sources of Local Pollution

Download or read book Global Sources of Local Pollution written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2010-02-15 with total page 248 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Recent advances in air pollution monitoring and modeling capabilities have made it possible to show that air pollution can be transported long distances and that adverse impacts of emitted pollutants cannot be confined to one country or even one continent. Pollutants from traffic, cooking stoves, and factories emitted half a world away can make the air we inhale today more hazardous for our health. The relative importance of this "imported" pollution is likely to increase, as emissions in developing countries grow, and air quality standards in industrial countries are tightened. Global Sources of Local Pollution examines the impact of the long-range transport of four key air pollutants (ozone, particulate matter, mercury, and persistent organic pollutants) on air quality and pollutant deposition in the United States. It also explores the environmental impacts of U.S. emissions on other parts of the world. The book recommends that the United States work with the international community to develop an integrated system for determining pollution sources and impacts and to design effective response strategies. This book will be useful to international, federal, state, and local policy makers responsible for understanding and managing air pollution and its impacts on human health and well-being.
