Book Everyday Culture in Europe

Download or read book Everyday Culture in Europe written by Máiréad Nic Craith and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-04-15 with total page 201 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book discusses the history and contemporary practice of studying cultures 'at home', by examining Europe's regional or 'small' ethnologies of the past, present and future. With the rise of nationalism and independence in Europe, ethnologies have often played a major role in the nation-building process. The contributors to this book offer case studies of ethnologies as methodologies, showing how they can address key questions concerning everyday life in Europe. They also explore issues of European integration and the transnational dimension of culture in Europe today, and examine how regional ethnologies can play a crucial part in forming a wider 'European ethnology' as local participants have experience of combining identities within larger regions or nations.

Book Intercultural Hermeneutics Understanding Culture and Religion

Download or read book Intercultural Hermeneutics Understanding Culture and Religion written by Chibueze Udeani and published by LIT Verlag. This book was released on 2021-01-10 with total page 324 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: New hermeneutical challenges abound within the process of globalisation especially as they pertain to culture and religion. Consequently, a new form of hermeneutics approached from an intercultural perspective is needed. This requires, if not a new set of hermeneutical tools then, at least, a serious, profound and critical analysis and constructive adaptation of the already available set of hermeneutical tools. Intercultural hermeneutics in the understanding of religion and culture and among cultures and religions is being proposed here as this new form of art or science of understanding. Chibueze C. Udeani is of Igbo origin and currently professor of missiology and dialogue of religions at Julius Maximilian's university Würzburg, Germany.

Book Double Homes Double Lives

Download or read book Double Homes Double Lives written by Orvar Löfgren and published by Museum Tusculanum Press. This book was released on 2007 with total page 152 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A rapidly growing number of double homes connect different parts of Europe in new ways. The second home can be a cottage in the woods, an apartment in the Costa del Sol or a restored farm house in Tuscany. However, other forms of double homes must be added to these landscapes of leisure. There are long distance commuters who spend most of their week in an overnight flat, in a caravan on a dreary parking lot or at a construction site. Economic migrants dream of a house 'back home' for vacations or retirement. Dual homes come in all shapes and sizes -- from the caravans of touring circus artists to people turning sailboats into a different kind of domestic space. This special issue of "Ethnologic Europaea" captures some dimensions of lives that are anchored in two different homes. How are such lives organised in time and space in terms of identification, belonging and emotion? How do they, in very concrete terms, render material transnational lives? The next issue of the journal (2008:1) will take such a comparative perspective into another direction as the authors will consider different kinds of research strategies to achieve European comparisons and to gain new cultural perspectives on European societies and everyday life.

Book Practical Theology and the Interpretation of Crossing Boundaries

Download or read book Practical Theology and the Interpretation of Crossing Boundaries written by Bert Roebben and published by LIT Verlag Münster. This book was released on 2003 with total page 324 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In October 2002 the Tilburg Professor of Practical Theology, Tjeu van Knippenberg, retired. In order to honour him as a bright scholar in the field of fundamental practical theology and pastoral care, 23 of his colleagues at Tilburg University and elsewhere (Nijmegen and Leuven) contributed to this festschrift. Their attention is focused on the concept of boundaries in practical theology: between context and Christian tradition, church and society, personal identity and Christian narrative, individual and community. Different research projects out of the Tilburg tradition of practical theology are presented from an empirical-hermeneutical perspective.

Download or read book Connecting Histories written by David B. Ruderman and published by University of Pennsylvania Press. This book was released on 2019-03-07 with total page 328 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Whether forced by governmental decree, driven by persecution and economic distress, or seeking financial opportunity, the Jews of early modern Europe were extraordinarily mobile, experiencing both displacement and integration into new cultural, legal, and political settings. This, in turn, led to unprecedented modes of social mixing for Jews, especially for those living in urban areas, who frequently encountered Jews from different ethnic backgrounds and cultural orientations. Additionally, Jews formed social, economic, and intellectual bonds with mixed populations of Christians. While not necessarily effacing Jewish loyalties to local places, authorities, and customs, these connections and exposures to novel cultural settings created new allegiances as well as new challenges, resulting in constructive relations in some cases and provoking strife and controversy in others. The essays collected by Francesca Bregoli and David B. Ruderman in Connecting Histories show that while it is not possible to speak of a single, cohesive transregional Jewish culture in the early modern period, Jews experienced pockets of supra-local connections between West and East—for example, between Italy and Poland, Poland and the Holy Land, and western and eastern Ashkenaz—as well as increased exchanges between high and low culture. Special attention is devoted to the impact of the printing press and the strategies of representation and self-representation through which Jews forged connections in a world where their status as a tolerated minority was ambiguous and in constant need of renegotiation. Exploring the ways in which early modern Jews related to Jews from different backgrounds and to the non-Jews around them, Connecting Histories emphasizes not only the challenging nature and impact of these encounters but also the ambivalence experienced by Jews as they met their others. Greenblatt, Gershon David Hundert, Fabrizio Lelli, Moshe Idel, Debra Kaplan, Lucia Raspe, David B. Ruderman, Pavel Sládek, Claude B. Stuczynski, Rebekka Voß.

Book Theologie im Zeichen der Interkulturalit t

Download or read book Theologie im Zeichen der Interkulturalit t written by Claude Ozankom and published by Rodopi. This book was released on 2010 with total page 271 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Among the consequences of the all engulfing process of globalisation is the experience that not only it promotes interdependence among peoples, folks, cultures and religions, but it also creates problems and tensions. The assignment of a thoughtful and practice-oriented accompanying of this development poses itself subsequently. From this background different lectures are being conducted in different places; research initiatives as well as projects are started and executed while several publications are featuring. Visible here is the fact that although there abound rich reservoirs of knowledge, there is still no clarity as to the contents and the theoretical and methodical contrasts that are yet to be examined.
