Book Silent Killer Grant s Logistical Requirements

Download or read book Silent Killer Grant s Logistical Requirements written by Lt-Col Philip M. Mattox and published by Pickle Partners Publishing. This book was released on 2014-08-15 with total page 39 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This monograph examines Grant’s campaign of 1864-1865 from a logistics perspective. It answers the following questions: 1. Did logistical systems change for the emerging operational level of war? 2. Did Civil War field logistics form today’s concepts at the operational level? 3. Were logistics planning factors derived from Napoleon? It concludes with a discussion of how Grant’s systems impacted on 1992 logistics systems. The monograph examines the history and formulation of operational requirements for the logistician. Discussed in detail is the necessity for theater base support, visibility and distribution, and the requirement for logistical planning factors. The conclusion is that each of these elements allows the commander to phase his operations, reduce risks and complete a campaign without creating operational pauses or logistical culmination. Finally, the paper compares 1864 principles with principles utilized during Desert Shield/Desert Storm.

Book Logistics Management

Download or read book Logistics Management written by Hans-Christian Pfohl and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-04-22 with total page 400 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Based on the drivers of the development of logistics, the success factors of logistics management in excellent companies are analyzed. Logistics management in and between companies requires a change in thinking on the operational as well as on the strategic and normative level of action. The functions of logistics management are explained in detail and discussed with regard to their design. The explanations are based on the presentation of the interplay of the normative, strategic and operational levels of action and the contribution of logistics to the achievement of corporate objectives. Essential building blocks for the implementation of the logistics concept are strategic logistics planning and logistics controlling. In addition to the organizational and operational issues, supply chain management is becoming increasingly important for the interorganizational realization of the logistics concept: because it is precisely from cooperation and collaboration that additional potential for sustainable value enhancement of the company through logistics arises. In order to exploit these potentials, it is important to promote suitable employees in a targeted manner. Therefore, the book concludes with a consideration of the special aspects of personnel management in logistics. On the one hand, the book addresses the practitioner who wants to profitably implement the concepts presented here. On the other hand, it is aimed at lecturers at universities, colleges and academies to support their courses. Students who are interested in the management-related issues of logistics will receive valuable information for their studies and future professional activities.

Book Transforming US Army Supply Chains

Download or read book Transforming US Army Supply Chains written by Greg Parlier and published by Business Expert Press. This book was released on 2011-03-15 with total page 328 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This text offers a practical approach for understanding the US Army's extremely complex global logistics system, widely acknowledged as one of the largest in the world. The focus is on inventory management policy where prescriptions are illuminated through the prism of an enterprise supply chain analysis. Although Army aviation logistics examples are emphasized throughout, the fundamental issues and potential solutions are broadly applicable to other large-scale military and industrial supply chains as well. Following a summary of recent trends for background and context, a multi-stage conceptual model of the logistics structure is presented to segment and guide the effort. This multi-stage model is used to systematically analyze major organizational components of the supply chain, diagnose structural disorders and prescribe solutions. Integration challenges are addressed using cost-benefit perspectives which incorporate supply chain objectives of efficiency, resilience, and effectiveness. The design and evaluation section proposes an "analytical architecture" consisting of four complementary modeling approaches, collectively referred to as "dynamic strategic logistics planning", to enable a coordinated, enterprise approach for Army Logistics Transformation. An organizational construct is presented for an "engine for innovation" to accelerate and sustain continual improvement for Army logistics and supply chain management - a "Center for Innovation in Logistics Systems". Finally, strategic management challenges associated with enterprise integration and transformational change are addressed: organizational design; management information and decision support systems; strategic alignment for a learning organization; and workforce considerations including human capital investment needs. The text concludes with a relevant historical vignette and closes with a summary of expected benefits.

Download or read book Strategic Logistics Management Decision Making in Times of Great Uncertainty written by Heiner Offenbächer and published by GRIN Verlag. This book was released on 2007-07 with total page 64 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Seminar paper from the year 2006 in the subject Business economics - Supply, Production, Logistics, grade: 1,0, European Business School - International University Schlo Reichartshausen Oestrich-Winkel (SMI - Supply Management Institute), course: Seminararbeit Logistics and Business Engineering, 75 entries in the bibliography, language: English, abstract: In the light of the ongoing globalization and evolution of today's business world logistics has gained significant visibility and is regarded as a critical link to improved corporate performance. The value of the global logistics market accounted for $591.1 billion in 2005 and is expected to further grow by 22.1% until 2010. Apart from a constant pressure to reduce costs and improve efficiency, logistics increasingly serves as a differentiating feature for products and an important lever for improving customer satisfaction. Coordination with other departments also plays a crucial role. The increasing complexity and dynamics of the business world did not leave logistics unaffected. Key drivers of uncertainty include globalization of supply and customer bases, shortening of product life cycles, increasing competition and more demanding customers. Thus, the challenge for logistics managers nowadays is to constantly balance a need to perform well on hard measures of performance, while responding to a constantly changing environment. With respect to logistics increasing importance for corporate success, reacting to contingencies by crisis management and firefighting is no longer an option. Instead, logistics managers must proactively and strategically plan for the future and prepare for change.
