Book Logistics and Transport Competitiveness in Kyrgyzstan

Download or read book Logistics and Transport Competitiveness in Kyrgyzstan written by United Nations Publications and published by . This book was released on 2020-07-09 with total page 142 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Improving the competitiveness of Kyrgyzstan as a transport logistics centre at the crossroads of Europe and Asia could enable the country to unlock significant untapped benefits of growing cargo flows between the two continents. This study identifies the transport infrastructure and services available in Kyrgyzstan, reviews the country's extensive recent and future transport investments, and sets out recommendations to ensure its transport network is ready to harness the growth in inland transport from rising East-West trade, particularly in the context of the Belt and Road Initiative, within which Kyrgyzstan could occupy a strategic geographical position. To further capitalize on Kyrgyzstan's pivotal role in Euro-Asian transport logistics, this study also presents the benefits of adhering to and implementing the full spectrum of UN Transport Conventions and Legal Instruments administered by UNECE, and through its continued participation in UNECE initiatives such as the Euro-Asian Transport Links project. The study also highlights strengthening the harmonization of legislation as one of the most important conditions for the development of the transport infrastructure of Kyrgyzstan and the broader region, of which Kyrgyzstan is a member.

Book Overcoming logistics related barriers to higher value exporte a decision framework to identify policy measures

Download or read book Overcoming logistics related barriers to higher value exporte a decision framework to identify policy measures written by Wiederer, Christina and published by Universitätsverlag der TU Berlin. This book was released on 2022-04-11 with total page 454 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Logistics is key to a country’s trading opportunities. Poor trade logistics performance, measured in the cost and complexity of importing and exporting, precludes many countries from diversifying their economies and can hamper trade, growth and employment. This is acutely relevant for developing countries, where a frail logistics environment, i.e., the combination of logistics infrastructure and services, is often a factor in weak trade. While trade consists of imports and exports, exports are crucial to a country’s development due to their potential to increase income and employment. Supply chain delays increase transportation costs and hence product costs, thus decreasing the competitiveness of exports. They force companies to hold higher inventory to avoid production stoppages due to delays in procuring preliminary products. While logistics services are mostly provided by private actors, governments play a key role in ensuring a well-functioning logistics environment, for example, through providing public infrastructure, customs procedures, or vocational training. Given limited resources, identifying and prioritizing investments are crucial tasks for developing nations. This dissertation develops a decision framework for the public sector as to which logistics interventions to carry out in a country wishing to facilitate higher-value exports. Higher-value exports here refer not just to a higher amount of exports, but to a higher value added of exports. The framework is applied to three product categories: automotive products, perishable agricultural products, and high-tech manufacturing. It is then applied to Vietnam, Morocco, and Kyrgyzstan, three middle-income countries representing different geographies, population sizes, and industrial structures. Methods to develop the framework include structured and semi-structured interviews, data analyses from public sources, and a review of the literature. The results include product-category-specific logistics requirements, gap analyses for the three countries, and policy recommendations for measures to improve logistics for high-tech manufacturing in Vietnam, automotive products in Morocco, and perishable agricultural goods in Kyrgyzstan. Although the suggested logistics measures are applicable to the three case study countries, the framework’s first part (target set-up of the logistics environment and logistics requirements) can be applied to other countries wishing to facilitate exports in the three product categories. Guidelines on potential measures to improve the logistics environment for the three product categories are included and can be used by policymakers in other countries. The framework developed here can also be applied to other product categories. It uses a structured approach that enables identifying recommended policy measures even with a narrow empirical base of public country-level, logistics-related data and insights from interviews with logistics stakeholders.

Book Turkic Council Countries Infrastructure Trade Logistics and Transportation

Download or read book Turkic Council Countries Infrastructure Trade Logistics and Transportation written by Mahir Humbatov and published by Mahir Humbatov. This book was released on 2017-11-17 with total page 194 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Cooperation Council of Turkic Speaking States (the Turkic Council - TC) was established in 2009 as an intergovernmental organization to promote multilateral cooperation among Turkic Speaking States. The four founding member states of the TC are Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Turkey. In addition, Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan are two possible future members of the council. This study aims to investigate the infrastructural investment, trade, logistics and transportation potential of the mentioned countries as well as elaborate these activities among the TC’s current and possible future members. For this purpose, firstly, present situation of the trade among the Council’s current and possible future members has been examined. At this point, it is made clear that the trade volume among these six states is not as much as expected, but it is open to healing. Later, the opportunities and the last developments that may increase the trade volume among the TC’s current and possible future members in line with advancement of their infrastructural potential are explored. In reality, the geographic location of these states is very good. Namely, they are on the old trade route known as the Silk Road channels; however, this road was not active for a long time. Recently, this ancient trade route between East and West was aimed to be revived by China. Besides, India is keen to develop another approach of the Silk Road under the International North South Transportation Corridor (INSTC) initiative. In fact, these are great opportunities for the TC’s current and possible future members. That is, there is a very large volume of trade between China and Europe, and currently almost all of this trade is done through sea transport. Hence, if even a small part of this trade is transported by the Chinese Initiative of the Silk Road, its contribution to the current and potential future members of the TC and their integration into each other will be great. However, at this point, there are some tasks that current and potential members of the TC must complete to mobilize the Silk Roads. In fact, opening of Baku-Tbilisi-Kars (BTK) rail link recently was an important step to make it active, but this is not fully enough. In this work, it is also aimed to set out these tasks from the perspective of each current and potential member. Finally, with the help of this review, the limitations and problems of each state’s infrastructural investment, trade, transport and logistics system have been put forward for improvement studies.

Book China s Communication of the Belt and Road Initiative

Download or read book China s Communication of the Belt and Road Initiative written by Carolijn van Noort and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2021-08-20 with total page 193 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book examines how China’s international political communication of the Belt and Road Initiative comprises narratives about infrastructure and the Silk Road. By carefully selecting infrastructure modalities and Silk Road representations, it is argued that China’s aesthetic production of the Belt and Road Initiative advances China’s image as an infrastructure and standards-setting power, conjures up a historical continuation of friendly and cooperative relations, and forges China’s identity as good neighbor, good friend, and good partner. Using a multiple-case study approach, this book analyses China’s communication of the Second Belt and Road Forum, the Alternative North-South Road in Kyrgyzstan, the Standard Gauge Railway in Kenya, and the China-Maldives Friendship Bridge. Detailed literary analyses of the Travels of Marco Polo and the Travels of Ibn Battutah further elucidate China’s selective uses of history. Chapters highlight spatial, temporal, political, economic, technological, and perceptual modalities in infrastructure narratives, and reveal the composition of Silk Road narratives, contributing to key debates about Chinese discourse, media strategy and infrastructure communication. China’s Communication of the Belt and Road Initiative will appeal to students and scholars of politics, international relations, communication, and Asian studies globally.

Book Transport Logistics

Download or read book Transport Logistics written by Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development and published by OECD Publishing. This book was released on 2002 with total page 58 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Globalisation and advances in information and communication technologies are reshaping the world s trading patterns. Today s internationally competitive businesses work through strategic, integrated global networks designed to deliver efficient and high-quality response to demands from anywhere in the world. This trend has given rise to the terms "global logistics" or "supply-chain management". In addition, growing environmental concerns require that logistics should not only be efficient; they should also contribute to sustainable development. How do governments understand the current state of logistics systems? Do we share a vision of desired global logistics networks towards which governments can work? What are the barriers to achieving efficient and sustainable logistics networks? The OECD TRILOG project aimed to provide insights into these key issues through an exchange of experiences relating to freight transport logistics in the Asia-Pacific, Europe and North American regions. This report attempts to identify constraints and address issues common to the three regions, and suggest possible solutions and approaches that could facilitate the development of policies to promote efficient and sustainable international logistics.

This book provides a thorough and critical analysis of economic integration in the EAEU from the perspective of international economic relations. It focuses on trade, FDI, manufacturing, energy, transport and logistics, science and education, digital economy, labour and ecology. The book also addresses the global positioning of the EAEU by evaluating its existing and potential trade agreements both with third countries and regional blocks. This book will be of interest to academics and policymakers working in Eurasian economic integration, international economic relations and regional studies.
