Book The Origins of Digital Computers

Download or read book The Origins of Digital Computers written by B. Randell and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 458 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: My interest in the history of digital computers became an active one when I had the fortune to come across the almost entirely forgotten work of PERCY LUDGATE, who designed a mechanical program-controlled computer in Ireland in the early I ':ICC's. I undertook an investigation of his life and work, during which I began to realise that a large number of early developments, which we can now see as culminating in the modern digital computer, had been most undeservedly forgotten. Hopefully, historians of science, some of whom are now taking up the subject of the development of the computer and accumulating valuable data, particularly about the more recent events from the people concerned, will before too long provide us with comprehensive analytical accounts of the invention of the computer. The present book merely aims to bring together some of the more important and interesting written source material for such a history of computers. (Where necessary, papers have been translated into English, but every attempt has been made to retain the flavour of the original, and to avoid possibly misleading use of modern computing terminology.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book attempts to achieve a balance between theory and application. For this reason, the book does not over-emphasize the mathematics of switching theory; however it does present the theory which is necessary for understanding the fundamental concepts of logic design. Written in a student-friendly style, the book provides an in-depth knowledge of logic design. Striking a balance between theory and practice, it covers topics ranging from number systems, binary codes, logic gates and Boolean algebra, design of combinational logic circuits, synchronous and asynchronous sequential circuits, etc. The main emphasis of this book is to highlight the theoretical concepts and systematic synthesis techniques that can be applied to the design of practical digital systems. This comprehensive book is written for the graduate students of electronics and communication engineering, electrical and electronics engineering, instrumentation engineering, telecommunication engineering, computer science and engineering, and information technology.

Book Digital Logic Circuit Analysis and Design

Download or read book Digital Logic Circuit Analysis and Design written by Victor Peter Nelson and published by Pearson. This book was released on 1995 with total page 878 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For introductory digital logic design or computer engineering courses in electrical and computer engineering or computer science at the sophomore- or junior-level. Many recent texts place instructors in the difficult position of choosing between authoritative, state-of-the art coverage and an approach that is highly supportive of student learning. This carefully developed text was widely praised by reviewers for both its great clarity and its rigor. The book balances theory and practice in depth without getting bogged down in excessive technical or mathematical language and has abundant coverage of current topics of interest, such as programmable devices, computer-aided design, and testability. An unusually large number of illustrations, examples, and problems help students gain a solid sense of how theory underlies practice.
