Book excerpt: The Annual European Meeting of the Association for Symbolic Logic, generally known as the Logic Colloquium, is the most prestigious annual meeting in the field. Many of the papers presented there are invited surveys of developments, and the rest of the papers are chosen to complement the invited talks. This 2007 volume includes surveys, tutorials, and selected research papers from the 2005 meeting. Highlights include three papers on different aspects of connections between model theory and algebra; a survey of major advances in combinatorial set theory; a tutorial on proof theory and modal logic; and a description of Bernay's philosophy of mathematics.

Book excerpt: The Annual European Meeting of the Association for Symbolic Logic, also known as the Logic Colloquium, is among the most prestigious annual meetings in the field. The current volume, Logic Colloquium 2007, with contributions from plenary speakers and selected special session speakers, contains both expository and research papers by some of the best logicians in the world. This volume covers many areas of contemporary logic: model theory, proof theory, set theory, and computer science, as well as philosophical logic, including tutorials on cardinal arithmetic, on Pillay's conjecture, and on automatic structures. This volume will be invaluable for experts as well as those interested in an overview of central contemporary themes in mathematical logic.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This compilation of papers presented at the 2000 European Summer Meeting of the Association for Symbolic Logic marks the centenial anniversery of Hilbert's famous lecture. Held in the same hall at La Sorbonne where Hilbert first presented his famous problems, this meeting carries special significance to the Mathematics and Logic communities. The presentations include tutorials and research articles from some of the world's preeminent logicians. Three long articles are based on tutorials given at the meeting, and present accessible expositions of devloping research in three active areas of logic: model theory, computability, and set theory. The eleven subsequent articles cover seperate research topics in all areas of mathematical logic, including: aspects in Computer Science, Proof Theory, Set Theory, Model Theory, Computability Theory, and aspects of Philosophy.

The main goal of the editors was to collect articles representing diverse fields within logic that would both contain significant new results and be accessible to readers with a general background in logic. Included in the book is a problem list, jointly compiled by the speakers, that reflects some of the most important questions in various areas of logic. This book should be useful to graduate students and researchers alike across the spectrum of mathematical logic.

Book Logic Colloquium 01

The CSL conference series started as the International Workshops on C- puterScienceLogic, andthen, after?vemeetings, becametheAnnualConference of the European Association for Computer Science Logic. This conference was the 18th meeting, and the 13th EACSL conference. Altogether 99 abstracts were submitted, followed by 88 papers. Each of these paperswasrefereedbyatleastthreereviewers. Then, afteratwo-weekelectronic discussion, the Programme Committee selected 33 papers for presentation at the conference. Apart from the contributed papers, the Committee invited lectures from Albert Atserias, Martin Hyland, Dale Miller, Ken McMillan and Pawel Urzyczyn. WewouldliketothankallPCmembersandthesubrefereesfortheirexcellent work. The electronic PC meeting would not be possible without good software support. We decided to use the GNU CyberChair system, created by Richard van de Stadt, and we are happy with this decision. We also would like to thank Micha l Moskal who installed and ran CyberChair for us. Finally, we would like to thank ToMasz Wierzbicki, who helped with the preparation of this volume. We gratefully acknowledge?nancial support for the conference received from the Polish Committee for Scienti?c Research, and Wroc law University.
