Book Labour Law Reforms in India

Download or read book Labour Law Reforms in India written by Anamitra Roychowdhury and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2018-03-28 with total page 272 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Labour market flexibility is one of the most closely debated public policy issues in India. This book provides a theoretical framework to understand the subject, and empirically examines to what extent India’s ‘jobless growth’ may be attributed to labour laws. There is a pervasive view that the country’s low manufacturing base and inability to generate jobs is primarily due to rigid labour laws. Therefore, job creation is sought to be boosted by reforming labour laws. However, the book argues that if labour laws are made flexible, then there are adverse consequences for workers: dismantled job security weakens workers’ bargaining power, incapacitates trade union movement, skews class distribution of output, dilutes workers’ rights, and renders them vulnerable. The book: identifies and critically examines the theory underlying the labour market flexibility (LMF) argument employs innovative empirical methods to test the LMF argument offers an overview of the organised labour market in India comprehensively discusses the proposed/instituted labour law reforms in the country contextualises the LMF argument in a macroeconomic setting discusses the political economy of labour law reforms in India. This book will interest scholars and researchers in economics, development studies, and public policy as well as economists, policymakers, and teachers of human resource management.

Book Indian Labour Market and Economic Reforms

Download or read book Indian Labour Market and Economic Reforms written by Dr. Jagdish Chauhan and published by Ashok Yakkaldevi. This book was released on 2022-08-25 with total page 227 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The global capitalism has entered into a new and distinct phase, wherein liberalisation, privatisation and globalisation (commonly called LPG) is a central theme. Almost every country, particularly the developing countries, are on the agenda of international monopolies and international financial capital which are controlled and regulated by the industrially developed nations. The vulnerable economies all over the world are being forced to liberalise their economies resulting in unfavourable balance of competitive forces on their side. Free trade rules are dismantling the ‘License Raj’ meant for business and industry under the dictate of global corporations. Market forces have been given once again a primacy to make the major economic decisions. “The free trade systems of small producers and poor consumers are being dismantled and being made illegal in order to create free trade systems for big business and global corporations.”1 All these have been the outcome of certain policy initiatives and developments that have taken place at the national and international level especially since the 1980s.

Book Routledge Handbook of Indian Politics

Download or read book Routledge Handbook of Indian Politics written by Atul Kohli and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013 with total page 399 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: India’s growing economic and socio-political importance on the global stage has triggered an increased interest in the country. This Handbook is a reference guide, which surveys the current state of Indian politics and provides a basic understanding of the ways in which the world’s largest democracy functions. The Handbook is structured around four main topics: political change, political economy, the diversity of regional development, and the changing role of India in the world. Chapters examine how and why democracy in India put down firm roots, but also why the quality of governance offered by India’s democracy continues to be low. The acceleration of economic growth since the mid-1980s is discussed, and the Handbook goes on to look at the political and economic changes in selected states, and how progress across Indian states continues to be uneven. It concludes by touching on the issue of India’s international relations, both in South Asia and the wider world. The Handbook offers an invigorating initiation into the seemingly daunting and complex terrain of Indian politics. It is an invaluable resource for academics, researchers, policy analysts, graduate and undergraduate students studying Indian politics.

Book Indian Business Case Studies Volume VI

Download or read book Indian Business Case Studies Volume VI written by S B Mathur and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2022-06-15 with total page 208 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It has been decades since many business schools outside India adopted the case study methodology for teaching almost all branches of management studies. This trend has been seen in India, too, where top management institutes have implemented the case study-based methodology as an important pedagogical tool in business education. The major issue in India, however, is a severe shortage of Indian case studies through which business schools can provide industry insights to students. This volume fills that gap. It has twenty Indian cases related to different aspects of business management. The cases cover some of the prominent disciplines of management like marketing, finance, human resource management, strategy management, operations management, accounting, and mergers and acquisitions. These cases best serve the purpose of adoption of 'case methodology' in classroom teaching or online lecture sessions for the faculty and students of business management.
