Download or read book Pressure Vessel Design Manual written by Dennis R. Moss and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2004-01-24 with total page 511 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A pressure vessel is a container that holds a liquid, vapor, or gas at a different pressure other than atmospheric pressure at the same elevation. More specifically in this instance, a pressure vessel is used to 'distill'/'crack' crude material taken from the ground (petroleum, etc.) and output a finer quality product that will eventually become gas, plastics, etc. This book is an accumulation of design procedures, methods, techniques, formulations, and data for use in the design of pressure vessels, their respective parts and equipment. The book has broad applications to chemical, civil and petroleum engineers, who construct, install or operate process facilities, and would also be an invaluable tool for those who inspect the manufacturing of pressure vessels or review designs. - ASME standards and guidelines (such as the method for determining the Minimum Design Metal Temperature)are impenetrable and expensive: avoid both problems with this expert guide - Visual aids walk the designer through the multifaceted stages of analysis and design - Includes the latest procedures to use as tools in solving design issues

Download or read book Structural Analysis and Design of Process Equipment written by Maan H. Jawad and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2018-06-14 with total page 483 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Still the only book offering comprehensive coverage of the analysis and design of both API equipment and ASME pressure vessels This edition of the classic guide to the analysis and design of process equipment has been thoroughly updated to reflect current practices as well as the latest ASME Codes and API standards. In addition to covering the code requirements governing the design of process equipment, the book supplies structural, mechanical, and chemical engineers with expert guidance to the analysis and design of storage tanks, pressure vessels, boilers, heat exchangers, and related process equipment and its associated external and internal components. The use of process equipment, such as storage tanks, pressure vessels, and heat exchangers has expanded considerably over the last few decades in both the petroleum and chemical industries. The extremely high pressures and temperatures involved with the processes for which the equipment is designed makes it potentially very dangerous to property and life if the equipment is not designed and manufactured to an exacting standard. Accordingly, codes and standards such as the ASME and API were written to assure safety. Still the only guide covering the design of both API equipment and ASME pressure vessels, Structural Analysis and Design of Process Equipment, 3rd Edition: Covers the design of rectangular vessels with various side thicknesses and updated equations for the design of heat exchangers Now includes numerical vibration analysis needed for earthquake evaluation Relates the requirements of the ASME codes to international standards Describes, in detail, the background and assumptions made in deriving many design equations underpinning the ASME and API standards Includes methods for designing components that are not covered in either the API or ASME, including ring girders, leg supports, and internal components Contains procedures for calculating thermal stresses and discontinuity analysis of various components Structural Analysis and Design of Process Equipment, 3rd Edition is an indispensable tool-of-the-trade for mechanical engineers and chemical engineers working in the petroleum and chemical industries, manufacturing, as well as plant engineers in need of a reference for process equipment in power plants, petrochemical facilities, and nuclear facilities.
Download or read book Applied Stress Analysis written by T.H. Hyde and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 744 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume records the proceedings of an international conference organised as a tribute to the contribution made by Professor H. Fessler over the whole of his pro fessionallife, in the field of applied stress analysis. The conference, held at the Univer sity of Nottingham on 30 and 31 August 1990, was timed to coincide with the date of his formal retirement from the post of Professor of Experimental Stress Analysis in the University. The idea grew from discussions between some of Professor Fessler's academic associates from Nottingham and elsewhere. An organising committee was set up, and it was decided to invite contributions to the conference in the form of review papers and original research papers in the field of experimental, theoretical and computational stress analysis. The size of the response, both in papers submitted and in attendance at the conference, indicates that the idea proved attractive to many of his peers, former associates and research students. A bound copy of the volume is to be presented to Professor Fessler at the conference dinner on 30 August 1990.

Download or read book Shell and Spatial Structures Computational Aspects written by Guido De Roeck and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-13 with total page 495 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In recent years powerful engineering workstations for a reasonable price become a valuable tool for the design of complicated constructions such as shell and spatial structures. This availability causes an increasing use of advanced numerical techniques for the static and dynamic analysis of these structures, also in the non-linear range. The I.A.S.S. Working Group nO 13 concerned with "Numerical Methods in Shell and Spatial Structures" and the Department of Civil Engineering of the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven have taken the initiative to organise an International Symposium, providing a forum for discussion and exchange of views between researchers, specialists in numerical analysis on one hand and designers, practising engineer ings on the other hand. These Proceedings contain the papers presented at the Symposium, held in Leuven, July 14-16 1986. The papers are organised in five sections 1. Shell structures 2. Spatial structures 3. Dynamic analysis 4. Non-linear analysis 5. Presentation and interpretation of results The papers covering more than one domain are classified following the main subject. We hope that researchers as well as practising engineers will find a lot of useful information in the book.
Download or read book Mechanical Design of Heat Exchangers written by Krishna P. Singh and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-04-17 with total page 1054 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A tubular heat exchanger exemplifies many aspects of the challenge in designing a pressure vessel. High or very low operating pressures and temperatures, combined with sharp temperature gradients, and large differences in the stiffnesses of adjoining parts, are amongst the legion of conditions that behoove the attention of the heat exchanger designer. Pitfalls in mechanical design may lead to a variety of operational problems, such as tube-to-tubesheet joint failure, flanged joint leakage, weld cracks, tube buckling, and flow induced vibration. Internal failures, such as pass partition bowing or weld rip-out, pass partition gasket rib blow-out, and impingement actuated tube end erosion are no less menacing. Designing to avoid such operational perils requires a thorough grounding in several disciplines of mechanics, and a broad understanding of the inter relationship between the thermal and mechanical performance of heat exchangers. Yet, while there are a number of excellent books on heat ex changer thermal design, comparable effort in mechanical design has been non-existent. This apparent void has been filled by an assortment of national codes and industry standards, notably the "ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code" and the "Standards of Tubular Exchanger Manufacturers Association. " These documents, in conjunction with scattered publications, form the motley compendia of the heat exchanger designer's reference source. The subject matter clearly beckons a methodical and comprehensive treatment. This book is directed towards meeting this need.
