Book Heat Transfer to Flat Plate in High temperature Rarefied Ultra high Mach Number Flow

Download or read book Heat Transfer to Flat Plate in High temperature Rarefied Ultra high Mach Number Flow written by H. T. Nagamatsu and published by . This book was released on 1961 with total page 50 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An investigation was conducted in a hypersonic shock tunnel to determine the local heat transfer rates for a sharp leading edge flat plate. The free stream Mach number range was 7.95 to 25.l with stagnation temperatures of approximately 2550 and 6500 R. For these temperature and Mach number conditions, the strong interaction parameter varied from 2.35 to 826. The corresponding Knudsen numbers, based on the ratio of the free stream mean free path and the leading edge thickness, varied from 0.38 to 85.5. The sputtered platinum heat gages were dynamically calibrated by passing a moderate strength shock wave across the gages and observing the change in resistance due to a step function temperature rise. By this method the gage characteristics were determined for the same pressure rises encountered in the test section.

Book The High Temperature Aspects of Hypersonic Flow

Download or read book The High Temperature Aspects of Hypersonic Flow written by Wilbur C. Nelson and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2014-12-02 with total page 801 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The High Temperature Aspects of Hypersonic Flow is a record of the proceedings of the AGARD-NATO Specialists' Meeting, held at the Technical Centre for Experimental Aerodynamics, Rhode-Saint-Genese, Belgium in April 1962. The book contains the papers presented during the meeting that tackled a broad range of topics in the aspects of hypersonic flow. The subjects covered during the meeting include pressure measurements, interference effects, the use of wind tunnels in aircraft development testing, high temperature gas characteristics, boundary layer research, stability and control and the use of rocket vehicles in flight research. Aerospace engineers and aeronautical engineers will find the book invaluable.

Book Rarefied High temperature Ultrahigh Mach Number Slip Flow Over a Sharp Flat Plate

Download or read book Rarefied High temperature Ultrahigh Mach Number Slip Flow Over a Sharp Flat Plate written by H. T. NAGAMATSU and published by . This book was released on 1963 with total page 39 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An investigation was conducted in a hypersonic shock tunnel to determine the induced pressures and the local heat transfer rates for a flat plate with sharp leading edge. The free stream Mach number range was 7.95 to 25.1 with stagnation temperatures of approximately 2300 and 7000 R. For these temperatures and Mach number conditions, the strong interaction parameter, varied from 2.35 to 826 and the corresponding Knudsen numbers, based on the ratio of the free stream mean free path and the leading edge thickness, varied from 0.4 to 86. For free stream Mach numbers greater than 10, Knudsen numbers of approximately unity, and perfect gas conditions, the observed experimental induced pressures varied as the square root of the strong interaction parameter and the local heat transfer rates varied as the cube root of the strong interaction parameter to the fourth power as predicted by the noninsulated flat plate theory of Li and Nagamatsu. When the Knudsen number and the Mach number are much greater than 1, the leading edge slip phenomenon drastically reduced both the induced pressures and local heat transfer rates as compared to the theoretical values predicted with no slip at the surface. Schlieren photographs indicate the presence of slip flow at the sharp leading edge in that the formation of the strong shock wave and the boundary layer was delayed. (Author).

Book Proceedings of the XXth International Astronautical Congress

Download or read book Proceedings of the XXth International Astronautical Congress written by P. Contensou and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 1066 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Proceedings of the XXth International Astronautical Congress compiles selected papers presented at the 20th International Astronautical Congress held in Mar del Plata, Argentina in 1969. This book is divided into five main topics—spacecraft engineering, astrodynamics, astrionics, bioastronautics, and problems of education. In these topics, this compilation specifically discusses the equatorial vibrations of a long flexible boom on a spin-stabilized satellite of non-zero radius; heat transfer to linear bodies in two-dimensional hypersonic low density; and limits of accuracy of general perturbations for satellites moving under constant forces. The rapid optimization of multiple-burn rocket flights; data transmission for planetary studies; and comparison of theoretical and experimental attitude data for the DODGE spacecraft are also elaborated. This text also covers the Apollo life-support and protective systems; bioastronautical aspects of Apollo biomedical operations; and development and applications of hot water rockets. This publication is recommended for astrophysicists and scientists of other disciplines related to astronomy.

Book New Trends in Instrumentation for Hypersonic Research

Download or read book New Trends in Instrumentation for Hypersonic Research written by A. Boutier and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 612 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Because of the growing interest in hypersonic flows, the AGARD Fluid Dynamics Panel initiated a sub-working group on instrumentation for hypersonics in 1989. This sub-group, chaired by J. WENDT (VKI -Belgium), was composed of: A. BOUTIER (ONERA -France), K. BUTEFISCH (DLR -Germany), R. CATTOLICA (SANDIA Lab. -USA), V. CLINE (AEDC -USA), A. GIRARD (ONERA -France), R. McKENZIE (NASA Ames -USA), S. OCHELTREE (NASA Langley -USA) and G. SMEETS (ISL -Franco-German Inst.). As a result of several meetings, the idea came to organize this workshop, 27th April - 1st May 1992, on "New Trends in Instrumentation for Hypersonic Research", at Le Fauga-Mauzac ONERA center, in France, where the new hot-shot arc-heated facility F4, as well as a new conference building, were recently completed. This workshop has been organized in close connection with the AGARD FDP Symposium to be held in Torino 4 - 8 May 1992 on "Theoretical and Experimental Methods in Hypersonic Flows": the main conclusions and ideas expressed by the papers and during the discussions of this workshop are reported in session 7 and have been presented in Torino in a special Instrumentation session. As chairman of this workshop, I express many thanks to the Organizing Committee composed of Karl BUTEFISCH, Andre GIRARD, Stewart OCHELTREE and John WENDT for their very constructive help, leading to a meeting that was recognized to be very fruitful for all the participants.
