Book Strategic Trade Policy and Multinational Enterprises

Download or read book Strategic Trade Policy and Multinational Enterprises written by René Belderbos and published by . This book was released on 1994 with total page 310 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There is vigorous debate both among economists and policy makers about the desirability and effects of national strategic trade and industrial policies. What are the effects of such policies in a world in which a considerable share of trade and economic activity is accounted for by multinational enterprises? This book provides some original answers by applying theoretical analysis in industrial economics to the trade and investment behaviour of Japanese electronics firms. It examines how these Japanese firms responded to antidumping measures and local content requirements in the European Community. It looks at the determinants of Japanese direct foreign investment and its effects on trade flows as well as at the role of Japanese industrial groups (keiretsu). The study is completed by analysis of two important new issues in international trade: the strategic effects of anti-trust policy in global markets and cascading protection from upstream to downstream industries.

Book The Analysis Of Competition Policy And Sectoral Regulation

Download or read book The Analysis Of Competition Policy And Sectoral Regulation written by Martin Peitz and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2014-07-07 with total page 514 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume contains a selection of papers that were presented at the CRESSE Conferences held in Chania, Crete, from July 6th to 8th, 2012, and in Corfu from July 5th to 7th, 2013. The chapters address current policy issues in competition and regulation. The book contains contributions at the frontier of competition economics and regulation and provides perspectives on recent research findings in the field. Written by experts in their respective fields, the book brings together current thinking on market forces at play in imperfectly competitive industries, how firms use anti-competitive practices to their advantage and how competition policy and regulation can address market failures. It provides an in-depth analysis of various ongoing debates and offers fresh insights in terms of conceptual understanding, empirical findings and policy implications. The book contributes to our understanding of imperfectly competitive markets, anti-competitive practices and competition policy and regulation.

Book A Framework for the Design and Implementation of Competition Law and Policy

Download or read book A Framework for the Design and Implementation of Competition Law and Policy written by R. S. Khemani and published by World Bank Publications. This book was released on 1999 with total page 172 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A dynamic and competitive environment, underpinned by competition law policy, is an essential characteristic of successful market economies. To satisfy the growing demand for information on current approaches and practices in competition law policy, the project "Framework for the Design and Implementation of Competition Law-Policy" was initiated by the World Bank, with participation by OECD. This ensuing volume reflects the main issues that arise in design and implementation of competition law and policy in order to assist countries in developing an approach that suits their own needs and conditions. The views articulated in this publication suggest that the administration and enforcement of competition law policy should assign the greatest importance to fostering economic efficiency and consumer welfare.

Book Regulatory Reform and Competitiveness in Europe Vertical issues

Download or read book Regulatory Reform and Competitiveness in Europe Vertical issues written by Giampaolo Galli and published by Edward Elgar Publishing. This book was released on 2000-01-01 with total page 524 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The second of two volumes, this text discusses the vertical issues involved in regulatory reform. The contributors describe in detail the regulatory reforms which are needed or have been initiated in nine major industrial sectors, including automobiles, textiles and clothing, retail trade, chemicals, banking, road transport, telecoms, electricity and (scheduled) air transport. They argue that regulatory reform can, more often than not, help improve the competitiveness of companies while generating net growth effects for the European Union as a whole.
