Book Local Business Adaptation to East Coast Offshore Energy Development

Download or read book Local Business Adaptation to East Coast Offshore Energy Development written by Atlantic Consulting Economists Limited and published by . This book was released on 1987 with total page 76 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The development of the Hibernia offshore oil field will generate substantial demand for a broad range of goods and services, representing an opportunity for local businesses. This study has two objectives: to identify and evaluate business strategies used by Newfoundland companies to participate in the commercial opportunities associated with the development of offshore energy resources, and to review the oil industry experience with local suppliers and manufacturers in Newfoundland. Study methodology included a survey of a representative sample of 30 local companies and interviews with representatives of operating oil companies and their major contractors. Results are presented in three parts: an analysis of the results of the local company survey, discussion of the oil industry's assessment of local company business practices along with suggestions for increasing local company participation, and a comparison of selected results of the survey with results from a comparable study in Nova Scotia. Interview guides used in the study are appended.

Book The Renewable Energy Landscape

Download or read book The Renewable Energy Landscape written by Dean Apostol and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2016-08-19 with total page 327 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Winner of the 2017 EDRA Great Places Award (Research Category) Winner of the 2017 VT ASLA Chapter Award of Excellence (Communications Category) The Renewable Energy Landscape is a definitive guide to understanding, assessing, avoiding, and minimizing scenic impacts as we transition to a more renewable energy future. It focuses attention, for the first time, on the unique challenges solar, wind, and geothermal energy will create for landscape protection, planning, design, and management. Topics addressed include: Policies aimed at managing scenic impacts from renewable energy development and their social acceptance within North America, Europe and Australia Visual characteristics of energy facilities, including the design and planning techniques for avoiding or mitigating impacts or improving visual fit Methods of assessing visual impacts or energy projects and the best practices for creating and using visual simulations Policy recommendations for political and regulatory bodies. A comprehensive and practical book, The Renewable Energy Landscape is an essential resource for those engaged in planning, designing, or regulating the impacts of these new, critical energy sources, as well as a resource for communities that may be facing the prospect of development in their local landscape.

Book Project Independence Blueprint

Download or read book Project Independence Blueprint written by United States. Federal Energy Administration and published by . This book was released on 1974 with total page 804 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What is Project Independence? The sources and uses of energy in the United States have changed dramatically in the last several decades. As a result, in just one generation, we have shifted from a position of domestic energy abundance to a substantial and continually growing reliance on foreign energy sources. Project Independence is a wide-ranging program to evaluate this growing dependence on foreign sources of energy, and to develop positive programs to reduce our vulnerability to future oil cut-offs and price increases.

Book Climate Impacts on Energy Systems

Download or read book Climate Impacts on Energy Systems written by Jane O. Ebinger and published by World Bank Publications. This book was released on 2011 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "While the energy sector is a primary target of efforts to arrest and reverse the growth of greenhouse gas emissions and lower the carbon footprint of development, it is also expected to be increasingly affected by unavoidable climate consequences from the damage already induced in the biosphere. Energy services and resources, as well as seasonal demand, will be increasingly affected by changing trends, increasing variability, greater extremes and large inter-annual variations in climate parameters in some regions. All evidence suggests that adaptation is not an optional add-on but an essential reckoning on par with other business risks. Existing energy infrastructure, new infrastructure and future planning need to consider emerging climate conditions and impacts on design, construction, operation, and maintenance. Integrated risk-based planning processes will be critical to address the climate change impacts and harmonize actions within and across sectors. Also, awareness, knowledge, and capacity impede mainstreaming of climate adaptation into the energy sector. However, the formal knowledge base is still nascent?information needs are complex and to a certain extent regionally and sector specific. This report provides an up-to-date compendium of what is known about weather variability and projected climate trends and their impacts on energy service provision and demand. It discusses emerging practices and tools for managing these impacts and integrating climate considerations into planning processes and operational practices in an environment of uncertainty. It focuses on energy sector adaptation, rather than mitigation which is not discussed in this report. This report draws largely on available scientific and peer-reviewed literature in the public domain and takes the perspective of the developing world to the extent possible."
