Book Load Induced Fatigue Category of Hand Holes and Manholes

Download or read book Load Induced Fatigue Category of Hand Holes and Manholes written by F. J. Bonachera Martín and published by . This book was released on 2018-02-15 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Current steel bridge design and evaluation practices assume that large inspection access holes, such as manhole and hand holes are presently classified as category D details. While category D is adequate for the fatigue evaluation of small open holes, such as an empty bolt holes, this has been shown to be overly conservative when the dimensions of the hole are larger. Specifically, the stress concentration of a hole decreases as the size of the hole relative to the size of the plate increases. In order to verify whether the reduction in stress concentration is significant enough to grant an improvement in the fatigue category, a parametric study using finite element analysis was conducted. The results of the parametric study revealed that larger holes may be reclassified as category C fatigue-prone details when certain geometrical features are met. To assist the implementation of the research findings, the current report also includes recommended modifications to the AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specification.

Book Lead 65

Download or read book Lead 65 written by Sam Stuart and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2017-05-25 with total page 344 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Lead 65 documents the proceedings of the Second International Conference on Lead held in Arnhem, 4-7 October 1965. The conference was organized by the Lead Development Association on behalf of the European Lead Development Committee (ELDC). In these Edited Proceedings will be found the full text of 34 papers presented during the conference together with an account of the discussion which followed presentation of each paper or related groups of papers. The book opens with a discussion of trends in world lead consumption. The remainder of the book is organized into four sections. The papers in Section 1 focus on dispersion strengthened lead. Section 2 presents studies on lead cable sheathing. Section 3 examines lead acid batteries for various applications while the papers in Section 4 deal with chemical and other applications of lead.

Book Peterson s Stress Concentration Factors

Download or read book Peterson s Stress Concentration Factors written by Walter D. Pilkey and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2020-01-07 with total page 816 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The bible of stress concentration factors—updated to reflect today's advances in stress analysis This book establishes and maintains a system of data classification for all the applications of stress and strain analysis, and expedites their synthesis into CAD applications. Filled with all of the latest developments in stress and strain analysis, this Fourth Edition presents stress concentration factors both graphically and with formulas, and the illustrated index allows readers to identify structures and shapes of interest based on the geometry and loading of the location of a stress concentration factor. Peterson's Stress Concentration Factors, Fourth Edition includes a thorough introduction of the theory and methods for static and fatigue design, quantification of stress and strain, research on stress concentration factors for weld joints and composite materials, and a new introduction to the systematic stress analysis approach using Finite Element Analysis (FEA). From notches and grooves to shoulder fillets and holes, readers will learn everything they need to know about stress concentration in one single volume. Peterson's is the practitioner's go-to stress concentration factors reference Includes completely revised introductory chapters on fundamentals of stress analysis; miscellaneous design elements; finite element analysis (FEA) for stress analysis Features new research on stress concentration factors related to weld joints and composite materials Takes a deep dive into the theory and methods for material characterization, quantification and analysis methods of stress and strain, and static and fatigue design Peterson's Stress Concentration Factors is an excellent book for all mechanical, civil, and structural engineers, and for all engineering students and researchers.

Book Design of Hydraulic Steel Structures

Download or read book Design of Hydraulic Steel Structures written by United States Army Corps of Engineers and published by . This book was released on 2005 with total page 64 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This manual prescribes guidance for designing hydraulic steel structures (HSS) by load and resistance factor design (LRFD) and guidance for fracture control. Allowable stress design (ASD) guidance is provided as an alternative design procedure or for those structure types where LRFD criteria have yet to be developed. Typical HSS are lock gates, tainter gates, tainter valves, bulkheads and stoplogs, vertical lift gates, components of hydroelectric and pumping plants, and miscellaneous structures such as lock wall accessories, local flood protection gates, and outlet works gates. HSS may be subject to submergence, wave action, hydraulic hammer, cavitation, impact, corrosion, and severe climatic conditions.
