Book Hadrons Nuclei and Applications

Download or read book Hadrons Nuclei and Applications written by Giovanni C. Bonsignori and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2001 with total page 515 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The International Conference "Bologna 2000: Structure of the Nucleus at the Dawn of the Century" was devoted to a discipline which has seen a strong revival of research activities in the last decade. New experimental results and theoretical developments in nuclear physics will certainly make important contributions to our knowledge and understanding of Nature's fundamental building blocks. The interest aroused by the Conference among the scientific community was clearly reflected in the large number of participants. These represented the most important nuclear physics laboratories in the world. The Conference covered five major topics of modern nuclear physics: nuclear structure, nucleus-nucleus collisions, hadron dynamics, nuclear astrophysics, and transdisciplinary and peaceful applications of nuclear science. It reviewed recent progress in the field and provided a forum for the discussion of current and future research projects.

Book excerpt: Following the pioneering discovery of alpha clustering and of molecular resonances, the field of nuclear clustering is presently one of the domains of heavy-ion nuclear physics facing both the greatest challenges and opportunities. After many summer schools and workshops, in particular over the last decade, the community of nuclear molecular physics decided to team up in producing a comprehensive collection of lectures and tutorial reviews covering the field. This first volume, gathering seven extensive lectures, covers the follow topics: * Cluster Radioactivity * Cluster States and Mean Field Theories * Alpha Clustering and Alpha Condensates * Clustering in Neutron-rich Nuclei * Di-neutron Clustering * Collective Clusterization in Nuclei * Giant Nuclear Molecules By promoting new ideas and developments while retaining a pedagogical nature of presentation throughout, these lectures will both serve as a reference and as advanced teaching material for future courses and schools in the fields of nuclear physics and nuclear astrophysics.

Book The Twofold Existence of Particles and Nuclei

Download or read book The Twofold Existence of Particles and Nuclei written by Hans-Dieter Herrmann and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2024-02-14 with total page 249 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Book contains a new proposal for physics within more than four dimensions (3 spatial dimensions + 1 time coordinate). An extra space is introduced, called basic space, instead of extra dimensions, compactified or otherwise embedded in space-time. A "dual space concept" has been applied by the author to construct models of particles, photons and nuclei mainly in a bottom -- up process. The top - down reasoning, the dominating method in theoretical physics, is only used in a second step. The kind of "twofold existence" discussed in this book turns out to be useful for describing natural systems in the living and non-living world.

This book was released on 2014-11-20 with total page 691 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a collection of talks presented at the First International African Symposium on Exotic Nuclei (IASEN-2013). The symposium was held at Cape Town, South Africa from 2 - 6 December 2013. The IASEN2013 was dedicated to the problems of producing and investigating nuclei far from the line of stability. The symposium was organized by two scientific centers: iThemba LABS, South Africa and the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research (Dubna). The main goal of the Symposium was to discuss the latest results on the production and study of the properties of the lightest to heaviest nuclei, as well as the plans for future joint investigations in the field of exotic nuclei. The talks were presented by the leading scientists in the field. Among the topics of the symposium were the following: production and study of properties of nuclei in extreme states, strongly deformed nuclei, highly excited and nuclei far from the line of stability as well as nuclei having large angular momenta. New results of the investigations are presented in this book. In particular, the latest results on the synthesis of new superheavy elements are also presented. At the Symposium were talks devoted to existing detecting devices and accelerators of exotic nuclei as well as to the future projects for the creation of similar set-ups.

Book The Response of Nuclei under Extreme Conditions

Download or read book The Response of Nuclei under Extreme Conditions written by R.A. Broglia and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 412 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In recent years, a new field of nuclear research has been opened through the possibility of studying nuclei wi\h very large values of angular momentum, temperature, pressure and number of particles. This development has been closely associated with heavy ion reactions, since collisions between two heavy nuclei are especially effective in producing metastable compound systems with large angular momentum, and in transferring energy which is distributed over the whole nuclear volume. Under the strain of temperature and of the Coriolis and centrifugal forces, the nucleus displays structural changes which can be interpreted in terms of pairing and shape phase transit ions. This was the subject of the lectures of J. D. Garrett, P. J. Twin and S. Levit. While the rotational motion is, at zero temperature un damped, the width of giant resonances indicate that the nucleus only oscillates through few periods before the motion is damp ed by particle decay, and through coupling to the compound nucleus. Temperature and angular momentum influence in an im portant way the properties of both giant resonances and rotatio nal motion. These subjects were developed by K. Snover, and by P. F. Bortignon and R. A. Broglia, as well as by A. Bracco, A. Dellafiore and F. Matera.

Book Acid Deoxyribonuclease DNase II in Rat Liver Cell Nuclei Isolated in the Presence of Ca

Download or read book Acid Deoxyribonuclease DNase II in Rat Liver Cell Nuclei Isolated in the Presence of Ca written by K. F. Swingle and published by . This book was released on 1963 with total page 38 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The failure of many investigators to find more than traces of deoxyribonuclease activity in the nuclei of cells has led to difficulties in attempting to ascribe a physiological role to this enzyme in living cells. Reinvestigation in this laboratory disclosed that nuclear fractions centrifugally separated from rat liver homoge nates in isotonic sucrose or in water, containing in each case 1.8 x 10 to the -3 power M CaCl(2) and washed repeatedly in the same media, retained a considerable amount of acid DNase activity. Similarly prepared nuclear fractions using calcium-free media lost nearly all of their DNase activity. This retention of activity in the presence of calcium was shown to be neither co-sedimentation of unbroken cells or of lysosomes with the nuclear fraction nor precipi tation of soluble e in the presence of calcium. The nuclear-bound enzyme was active under conditions which were shown not to remove it from the nuclei. (Author).
