Book Digital Transformation in Norwegian Enterprises

Download or read book Digital Transformation in Norwegian Enterprises written by Patrick Mikalef and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-06-16 with total page 203 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This open access book presents a number of case studies on digital transformation in Norway, one of the fore-runners in the digital progress index established by the European Commission in 2020. They explore the process of adoption, diffusion and value generation from digital technologies, and how the use of different digital solutions has enabled Norwegian enterprises to digitally transform their operations and business models. The book starts with an introductory chapter summarizing a vast body of literature in order to synthesize what is already known about digital transformation before exploring the Norwegian context in more detail. Then a series of case studies from the private and public sector in Norway is presented. They document a process perspective which describes the sequence of events during and after adoption of digital solutions, as well as the types of business value that were realized. Through these single studies, the process of digital transformation is illustrated, a number of key findings highlighted, and eventually theoretical and practical recommendations based on these cases emphasized. The book closes with a brief overview of some emerging technologies, and comments on how they are likely to change different sectors. Digital transformation has been one of the priority areas for the Norwegian government over the past years and puts Norwegian enterprises upfront in adopting novel technologies and utilizing them for achieving organizational goals. This experience accumulated over the years makes the Norwegian context a particularly interesting one in understanding how private and public organizations make use of new digital solutions, what lessons can be learnt during the process, and what are some of the key success and failure factors. This way the book is written for practitioners who are currently involved in digital transformation projects in their organizations, researchers of information systems and management, as well as master students in degrees of informatics and technology management.

Book Cambridge Handbook of Qualitative Digital Research

Download or read book Cambridge Handbook of Qualitative Digital Research written by Boyka Simeonova and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2023-06-22 with total page 830 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Big data and algorithmic decision-making have been touted as game-changing developments in management research, but they have their limitations. Qualitative approaches should not be cast aside in the age of digitalisation, since they facilitate understanding of quantitative data and the questioning of assumptions and conclusions that may otherwise lead to faulty implications being drawn, and - crucially - inaccurate strategies, decisions and actions. This handbook comprises three parts: Part I highlights many of the issues associated with 'unthinking digitalisation', particularly concerning the overreliance on algorithmic decision-making and the consequent need for qualitative research. Part II provides examples of the various qualitative methods that can be usefully employed in researching various digital phenomena and issues. Part III introduces a range of emergent issues concerning practice, knowing, datafication, technology design and implementation, data reliance and algorithms, digitalisation.

Download or read book Drone imaginaries written by Andreas Immanuel Graae and published by Manchester University Press. This book was released on 2021-06-15 with total page 365 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There should no longer be any doubt: drones are here to stay. In civil society, they are used for rescue, surveillance, transport and leisure. And on the battlefield, their promises of remote protection and surgical precision have radically changed the way wars are fought. But what impact are drones having on our identity, and how are they affecting the communities around us? This book addresses these questions by investigating the representation of civilian and military drones in visual arts, literature, and architecture. What emerges, the contributors argue, is a compelling new aesthetic: ‘drone imaginary’, a prism of cultural and critical knowledge, through which the complex interplay between drone technology and human communities is explored, and from which its historical, cultural and political dimensions can be assessed. The contributors offer diverse approaches to this interdisciplinary field of aesthetic drone imaginaries. With essays on the aesthetic configurations of drone swarming, historical perspectives on early unmanned aviation, as well as current debates on how drone technology alters the human body and creates new political imaginaries, this book provides new insights to the rapidly evolving field of drone studies. Working across art history, literature, photography, feminism, postcolonialism and cultural studies, Drone imaginaries offers a unique insight into how drones are changing our societies.

Book Ethics and Mathematics Education

Download or read book Ethics and Mathematics Education written by Paul Ernest and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2024 with total page 508 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This edited volume is an inquiry into the ethics of mathematics education, and to a lesser extent, the ethics of mathematics. The imposition of mathematics for all raises questions of ethics. What are the ethics of teaching school mathematics? What are the costs as well as the benefits? What are the ethical issues raised by the official aims of mathematics teaching, the planned curriculum, the pedagogies employed in school and college mathematics and the assessment systems? These questions are addressed in the book as well as what systems of ethics we might use. The volume ventures into a burgeoning new field. It offers a unique set of investigations, both theoretical and in terms of practices. It announces the ethics of mathematics education as a new subfield of research and includes valuable contributions from many of the best-known researchers in mathematics education; additionally, it is a valuable resource for students, teachers and researchers in the field. This is an enduring and classic source book in the field. From the wisdom of leading scholars to the little heard voices of students, this collection offers the reader many striking new insights into the ethics of mathematics and education.

Book Human Work Interaction Design

Download or read book Human Work Interaction Design written by Torkil Clemmensen and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-09-23 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An approach to socio-technical HCI called Human Work Interaction Design (HWID) emerged around 2005. It has grown steadily, and now is the time for sharing this research with a wider audience. In this book, the HWID approach is used to discuss socio-technical HCI theory, cases, methods, and impact. The book introduces HWID as a multi-sided platform for theorizing about socio-technical HCI work design in the digital age. It presents design cases that illustrate the design of socio-technical relations, provides specific advice for researchers, consultants, and policy makers, and reflects on the open issues related to theorizing about sociotechnical HCI. The benefits of HWID include that it meets the requirement of taking both the social and the technical into account, while focusing strongly on the relationship between the social and the technical. In addition, it is truly international and explicitly considers local cultural, organizational, and technological contexts.

Book Data Rules

  • Author : Cristina Alaimo
  • Publisher : MIT Press
  • Release : 2024-06-04
  • ISBN : 0262547937
  • Pages : 239 pages

Download or read book Data Rules written by Cristina Alaimo and published by MIT Press. This book was released on 2024-06-04 with total page 239 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A new social science framework for studying the unprecedented social and economic restructuring driven by digital data. Digital data have become the critical frontier where emerging economic practices and organizational forms confront the traditional economic order and its institutions. In Data Rules, Cristina Alaimo and Jannis Kallinikos establish a social science framework for analyzing the unprecedented social and economic restructuring brought about by data. Working at the intersection of information systems and organizational studies, they draw extensively on intellectual currents in sociology, semiotics, cognitive science and technology, and social theory. Making the case for turning “data-making” into an area of inquiry of its own, the authors uncover how data are deeply implicated in rewiring the institutions of the market economy. The authors associate digital data with the decentering of organizations. As they point out, centered systems make sense only when firms (and formal organizations more broadly) can keep the external world at arm’s length and maintain a relative operation independence from it. These patterns no longer hold. Data transform the production of goods and services to an endless series of exchanges and interactions that defeat the functional logics of markets and organizations. The diffusion of platforms and ecosystems is indicative of these broader transformations. Rather than viewing data as simply a force of surveillance and control, the authors place the transformative potential of data at the center of an emerging socioeconomic order that restructures society and its institutions.

Download or read book Future proofing written by Carla Simone and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2022-02-03 with total page 402 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Innovative research solutions increasingly require deep engagement with practitioners to manage the complex problems they are attempting to solve. This often project-based research is equipped with finite resources over a limited period without much thought into future-proofing the practice. These projects must face questions of what happens when a product comes to an end and whether there are any lasting positive effects once the IT systems are no longer being actively developed. From a computing perspective, the challenge is to design IT artifacts that contribute to improving the user's work and everyday life in a sustainable way, thereby also contributing to social and ecological sustainability. Future-Proofing: Making Practice-Based IT Design Sustainable documents the experiences made by several leading research groups in Europe, North America, and South Africa. It describes their efforts to achieve sustainable design results, the difficulties that barred the way but also the strategies they adopted to achieve the goal of sustainability. The analysis of these cases has inspired thinking about how to more systematically address and possibly overcome the impediments to sustainability. This book develops a strong future-oriented perspective that conceptualizes sustainability as a complex and highly variegated issue and formulates insights and recommendations with a view to help researchers to better design for sustainability.
