Download or read book Living Hope A Collection for Holy Week and Easter written by Andy March and published by . This book was released on 2023-02-05 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "I want to tell you the real story of Jesus the King and his crazy glory. He broke all the rules, didn't play by the book Want to know why? Well, let's take a look" In Living Hope: A Collection for Holy Week and Easter, Andy March invites us to take a fresh look at the events of Jesus and his followers' journey from the triumphant entry into Jerusalem, through to the devastation of Jesus' death on the cross, then to the unexpected joy and hope of that resurrection day. Through story and poetry, sermons and reflections, Living Hope will inspire, provoke, and give us a fresh understandingof the life-transforming power of Holy Week and Easter. May it lead us to a place of wonder and worship once more. "Fresh, creative, insightful and powerful meditations for Easter - grateful to this gifted writer for such a superb resource for personal or group study - I highly recommend this." Simon Ponsonby (Priest, Author, Teacher) From the Introduction ... Living Hope is not designed to be read front-to-back like a novel. See it more as something to be dipped into and enjoyed. Part 1 - Telling the Story A collection of monologues and sketches that seek to tell the familiar story in a new way, often from the perspective of the characters involved. These would be perfect for use in services and would work as stand-alone pieces. Part 2 - The Power of the Cross - Devotional Services for Good Friday Reflections (written from the perspectives of the characters involved) and prayers and interspersed with Bible readings from the Passion narratives in the Gospels. These were written for "Last Hour" services, taking place at 2pm on Good Friday. The Bible readings are part of the text to help you in your own devotions. Part 3 - Proclaiming Hope - The Message of Holy Week and Easter Sermons I have preached over the years on Gospel passages on the Passion (the period between Palm Sunday and Good Friday) and Resurrection of Jesus. These have been preached on ordinary Sundays during Lent and Easter season as well as Good Friday and Easter Sunday. Some are interspersed with the monologues that you will find elsewhere in the book. Part 4 - Easter for All Ages These are some of the all age talks I've written for our services on Easter Sunday. Hopefully these will inspire and help those who have the wonderful but challenging task of leading services and are looking for something fresh to say. Part 5 - Responding to Hope Poetry, which often forms my personal expression of worship in this season. My greatest challenge as a "professional Christian" is that I can be so focused on communicating the Good News to others that I fail to appreciate its meaning for myself. These poems flow from those times when I stop, reflect and worship. Part 6 - Journeying in Hope A four-week devotional for Holy Week and Easter that starts on Palm Sunday, containing Bible verses I selected and reflections I wrote on Twitter. You may want to use this to accompany your own devotions, perhaps at the end of the day.

Book The Living Hope Meditations on Easter

Download or read book The Living Hope Meditations on Easter written by David Elston and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2016-02-28 with total page 69 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Two thousand years ago there was a man who wrote no books, created no art, ruled no country, won no battle, and invented no technology. He was born in a stable to a teenage mother and her poor husband. He lived in obscurity for thirty years as a carpenter until he began a ministry that lasted three meager years, until he was falsely accused as a criminal and put to death on a Roman cross. So why, two thousand years later, are we still talking about him? Why are the world's museums filled with paintings of him? Why do people still gather every week to hear stories about him? Why is his face still seen on magazines? Why are there entire libraries of books written about him? Because this man came back from the dead. I have not written this book convince you of that. I have written this book, first to tell you the story of this man, Jesus Christ, and the events surrounding his death and resurrection; and second, to tell you the implications of his resurrection are, if it really happened.

This volume, like its companion Christmas collection, draws together outstanding features from the past twenty years. It includes: * Meditations on the Stations of the Cross by the poet David Scott; * A short story set in Gethsemane by David Hart; * Timothy Radcliffe on the alternative to conflict symbolised by the Last Supper; * Sam Wells on Pilate and what he - and we - could do differently; * Richard Harries on the art of Good Friday; * Peter Stanford on Judas; * Michael Perham on why Easter celebrations should start in the dark; * Stephen Cleobury on the carols of Easter; * Mark Oakley on the poetry of the cross; * Paula Gooder on why the resurrection is central to faith; * Reflections on the season's lectionary readings, and much besides. In life Jesus had 'nowhere to lay his head' and in death was laid in a borrowed tomb. Mindful of this, all royalties from this book will go to the Church Homeless Trust.

Book Loving the Enemy building bridges in a time of war

Download or read book Loving the Enemy building bridges in a time of war written by Andrew March and published by Hallwill Publishing. This book was released on 2021-11-06 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Loving the Enemy tells the compelling true story of Fred Clayton, a grammar schoolboy from Liverpool, and brilliant Cambridge scholar, who leaves the comfort of the halls of Cambridge at the beginning of the Nazi era and makes a troubled journey to discover first-hand what life must be like to live under the despotic regime. Arriving in Dresden, he develops a friendship with a German family that will change his life. Through the course of the next decade, with his and their nations at war, Fred will not forget the connections that have been made and refuses to allow hate to win. After the war, with Dresden in ruins, reflecting his own state of mind, Fred writes to the same German family. Will he find the healing, love and redemption he seeks? “It is my hope that, thanks to Andy’s efforts, the story will inspire you as much as it has inspired me, and that it will find its place as a signpost, even a landmark, along the path of reconciliation, trust and love which links Coventry and Dresden; Britain and Germany.” (Christopher Cocksworth, Bishop of Coventry, from the Foreword) "A wonderful story. Family history and perseverance to do the right thing. Found it hard to put it down. Fabulously written." "This is a compelling, well written biography with many attributes of a thriller that I couldn’t put down. I highly recommend it." "I absolutely loved this book. It is a page-turning true life story of two fascinating people, Fred and Rike, living through the tumultuous 1930s and 1940s. It is a real human story, and I came to love the key characters." "This story is truly compelling and beautifully written. It is gritty, honest and deeply moving, giving new insights into both sides of the war. Highly recommended!"

Download or read book Hope in Times of Fear written by Timothy Keller and published by Penguin. This book was released on 2021-03-09 with total page 272 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Resurrection accounts of Jesus in the Gospels are the most dramatic and impactful stories ever told. One similarity unites each testimony--that none of his most loyal and steadfast followers could "see" it was him, back from the dead. The reason for this is at the very foundation of the Christian faith. She turned around and saw Jesus standing there, but she did not realize that it was Jesus. (John 20:14) Hope in the Time of Fear is a book that unlocks the meaning of Jesus's resurrection for readers. Easter is considered the most solemn and important holiday for Christians. It is a time of spiritual rebirth and a time of celebrating the physical rebirth of Jesus after three days in the tomb. For his devoted followers, nothing could prepare them for the moment they met the resurrected Jesus. Each failed to recognize him. All of them physically saw him and yet did not spiritually truly see him. It was only when Jesus reached out and invited them to see who he truly was that their eyes were open. Here the central message of the Christian faith is revealed in a way only Timothy Keller could do it--filled with unshakable belief, piercing insight, and a profound new way to look at a story you think you know. After reading this book, the true meaning of Easter will no longer be unseen.

Book excerpt: What if fear is the new brave? That's the question that you need answered if you are living afraid. Finding courage begins with fear itself--fear of the Lord. I Choose Brave reveals a countercultural plan to help you where you are--knee-deep in fears of parenting, the future, your marriage, and a world that feels unstable. When you're feeling fearful, the last thing you need is a social-media meme telling you to simply "power through" your fears. In I Choose Brave, Katie Westenberg digs deep into Scripture and shows that finding the courage to overcome our fears must start with fear of the Lord. Hundreds of passages speak to this foundational truth, yet we have somehow relegated them to antiquity. In sharing her own compelling story of facing her worst fear, Katie serves up theological truth with relatable application. In this book, you will · discover a fresh take on an old truth that displaces fear once and for all · understand why the culture's idea of "fearlessness" is a farce · access the holy courage you were made for With this new knowledge comes tremendous freedom. Hidden in the cleft of the Rock, the One truly worthy of our fear, you will begin to understand the only path to real courage.
