Book excerpt: A 30th anniversary edition of a classic book on the Trinity by one of Britain's most prominent theologians. Donald Macleod argues that our understanding of the Trinity matters because 'it is the model for the way we should live, particularly in our relations with one another.' The relationship between Father, Son and Spirit is laid out in Scripture, and although fully grasping the concept of this divine mystery will always be beyond us, we can understand it better. It is critically important that we do, for if our understanding of God is wrong, it may lead to other wrong beliefs. Donald Macleod's faithful insight into what Scripture has to say about the Godhead is priceless, as relevant now as when it was first published. This 30th anniversary edition has been newly typeset and has a new cover, and will be an invaluable resource to a new generation of readers.

Book Old Testament Ethics for the People of God

Download or read book Old Testament Ethics for the People of God written by Christopher J.H. Wright and published by InterVarsity Press. This book was released on 2013-01-30 with total page 524 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nothing confuses Christian ethics quite like the Old Testament. Some faithful readers struggle through its pages and conclude that they must obey its moral laws but may disregard its ceremonial and civil laws. Others abandon its teaching altogether in favor of a strictly New Testament ethic. Neither option, argues Chris Wright, gives the Old Testament its due. In this innovative approach to Old Testament ethics--fully revised, updated and expanded since its first appearance in 1983 as Living as the People of God (An Eye for an Eye in North America) and including material from Walking in the Ways of the Lord--Wright examines a theological, social and economic framework for Old Testament ethics. Then he explores a variety of themes in relation to contemporary issues: economics, the land and the poor; politics and a world of nations; law and justice; society and culture; and the way of the individual. This fresh, illuminating study provides a clear basis for a biblical ethic that is faithful to the God of both Testaments.

Book Living As God s People

    Book Details:
  • Author : Doug Allen
  • Publisher : Page Publishing Inc
  • Release : 2017-12-15
  • ISBN : 1640826645
  • Pages : 308 pages

Download or read book Living As God s People written by Doug Allen and published by Page Publishing Inc. This book was released on 2017-12-15 with total page 308 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A life application exegesis of a book of the Bible is different and often hard to find, especially of one of the Epistles. Life application is not a historical document, nor is it a purely theological writing. It is the taking of the Word of God and applying to the daily life of the believer in order that the Christian may “live Christ” in his walk so that those around him may see God “lived out” and thus come to know him. As the believer becomes more adept at doing this, the Holy Spirit will be able to place that believer in more and more circumstances where he can use the believer, often without the believer even knowing that he is being used. It becomes natural to the believer. Jesus puts it this way. He said, “I am the vine, you are the branches. He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit.” All we have to do is hang in there. Jesus does the rest through his Holy Spirit. That is what life-application exegesis is all about. It is about living experiences of life with Christ so we may learn what Jesus wants to do in our lives to touch others. Just think—Jesus wants to use us to touch others. Blows your mind, doesn’t it?

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Worship is a daunting but important part of discipleship. For that reason, God gave us the Psalms... This collection of hymns and petitions was written over a span of centuries, in many different settings, by kings such as David and Solomon and commoners like Asaph, Heman, and the sons of Korah. Some of the psalms are defiant; others are reverent. Some are meant to be sung; others are to be prayed. Some are intensely personal; others are communal. But all have one purpose—to help us express our hears to God. As you read, study, journal, and discuss the book of Psalms, watch for these key themes that Max will unpack throughout the book: God is worthy of all worship. God will defend his people against their enemies. Being in relationship with God is the key to all joy and security. The Life Lessons with Max Lucado series brings the Bible to life in twelve lessons filled with intriguing questions, inspirational stories, and poignant reflections to take you deeper into God's Word. Each lesson includes: An opening reflection on the Bible book you're studying. Background information to deepen your understanding of the cultural and historical setting. An excerpt of the text (from the NIV and the NKJV). Exploration questions with plenty of room to write your own thoughts and notes. Inspirational thoughts from Max as well as a closing takeaway for further reflection. The Life Lessons series is ideal for use in both a small-group setting or for individual study.
