The story is about a woman named Sofia. She did not sport a pistol, crack a whip, or handle a rope as a few frontier women did during the latter part of the 1800’s and early 1900’s when there was border banditry. It is a true story about a woman with no education, who could not read or write. She had an accounting system of using knots on a string and created a few Moms and Pop stores. The story is told as seen through the eyes of baby boy up to his teenage years in the military during the Viet Nam War when she passed away. Born in 1887 she lived through the silent films to the talking motion pictures, Mexican Revolution, that affected the Texas/Mexico border, the initiation of Social Security, the Gusher Age which was the Texas oil boom, and the following wars: World war I, World war II, along with the (Unterseeboot) U-boats which sank ships in the Gulf of Mexico and patrol pretty close to the shores of South Texas, Korean conflict, and the Vietnam conflict. She saw the invention of television. Sofia with her life experiences weathered the great depression, which began with the crash of Wall Street of the month of October 1929. She got to know of the prohibition era, which governed the national ban on the sale, manufacture and transportation of alcohol, in place from 1920 to 1933 mandated by the 18th amendment, civil rights movement, cold war, arms race, and space race. She was always keeping up with the current events by radio and television that affected American lives. As time passed she got to witness the first man in space and the first man on the moon by watching one modern marvel, which was the television. Sofia had no schooling but was knowledgeable of the law. She knew that it was imperative that her boys (Husband, sons, grandsons, and great grandsons) register for the draft. There is some description in this story about the atrocities committed by the Texas Rangers, border Bandits, wild Indians, The Mexican American or Chicano movements, some of the migrant issues, a couple of comical situations, and addresses education. There is some content about the turbulent times of the 60’s and 70’s. Sofia raised her children, grandchildren, and finally her oldest great grandson. She was tough as nails and would not put up with anyone’s nonsense. Sofia's Life describes the heart breaking hardships encountered by Sofia.

The authors identify key policy challenges for the future related to NEETS, overeducation, self-employment, and ethnic differences in outcomes. This illustrates the need to encompass a wider understanding of youth employment and job insecurity by including an analysis of economic production and how it relates to social reproduction of labor if policy intervention is to be effective. The mapping and extensive analysis in this book are the result of a 3½-year, European Union-funded research project (Strategic Transitions for Youth Labour in Europe, or STYLE; http://www.style-research.eu) coordinated by Jacqueline O'Reilly. With an overall budget of just under 5 million euros and involving 25 research partners; an international advisory network and local advisory boards of employers, unions, and policymakers; and non-governmental organizations from more than 20 European countries, STYLE is one of the largest European Commission-funded research projects to exist on this topic. These laws are extracted from Marx’s main work – Capital. From 1917 to 1991, the totalitarian system in USSR and East Europe was called socialism, and even by the scientific nonsense and absurd names of communism and communist system. In this system, the official ideology was allegedly Marxism, but really it could not endure any Marxist criticism. There was never any socialism anywhere! In the twentieth century, we passed through a system of utopian socialism as proof that this was not socialism that was not possible, but for the utopia of writers before and after Marx. We were visited by a utopian socialism, which at the contemporary stage is simply capitalism – state, monopolistic. There is no better application of Keynes’s doctrine than the “socialism” of the twentieth century. His “planned capitalism” is actually “planned socialism.”

We are frst of all concerned with the concept of spatial disparities, which has its roots in national spatial planning and spatial development policy. Regional development as interregional equalisation policy, for example, is well-anchored in the German constitution through fundamental legal standards and the division of powers among the respective federal states. The “establishment of uniform living conditions within the federal territory” and “securing the uniformity of living conditions beyond the borders of any single federal state” (Section 72 Paragraph 2 of German Basic Law [GG]) are expressly specifed as aims of government action in the constitution of the Federal Republic of Germany. With the major reform of Germany’s fnancial system in 1969 and incorporation of the joint task “Improvement 1 of the Regional Economic Structure” in Section 91a of German Basic Law [GG] interventions on the part of the federal government and the wealthy federal states for the beneft of states and regions with less economic success were legitimised in constitutional terms as well. All of this would be inconceivable without the concept of spatial disparities.
