Book Living with Congestive Heart Failure

Download or read book Living with Congestive Heart Failure written by Haydn Velasquez and published by Independently Published. This book was released on 2023-02-22 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Living with Congestive Heart Failure (CHF) can be a challenging experience. CHF is a chronic heart condition that affects millions of people worldwide. It occurs when the heart is unable to pump blood effectively, which leads to a buildup of fluid in the lungs and other organs. CHF is a progressive disease, which means that it tends to get worse over time. However, with proper management and treatment, it is possible to live a fulfilling life with CHF. In this book, "Living with Congestive Heart Failure: Your Ultimate Handbook for Overcoming This Condition," we will explore various aspects of CHF and provide practical tips for managing this condition. First, it's important to understand the causes of CHF. The most common cause is damage to the heart muscle from a heart attack or high blood pressure. Other causes include cardiomyopathy (a disease of the heart muscle), heart valve problems, and congenital heart defects. It's essential to identify the underlying cause of CHF to determine the appropriate treatment plan. Once diagnosed with CHF, the patient should take steps to manage the condition. The most crucial aspect of managing CHF is making lifestyle changes. A heart-healthy diet, regular exercise, and weight management can help improve heart function and reduce the risk of complications. A diet rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean protein, and healthy fats can provide essential nutrients to help the heart function correctly. Regular exercise can improve heart function, reduce the risk of blood clots, and help control weight. Weight management is also important as being overweight or obese can put extra strain on the heart. In addition to lifestyle changes, medications are often prescribed to help manage CHF. These may include diuretics, which help remove excess fluid from the body, ACE inhibitors, which widen blood vessels and reduce the workload on the heart, and beta-blockers, which slow the heart rate and reduce blood pressure. It's important to take these medications as prescribed and to attend regular appointments with a healthcare provider to monitor the condition and adjust treatment as needed. Cardiac rehabilitation is another important aspect of managing CHF. This program includes exercise, education, and counseling to help patients improve their heart health and reduce the risk of future complications. Cardiac rehabilitation can also help patients adjust to their new lifestyle and manage the emotional impact of the condition. Living with CHF can be challenging not just for the patient, but also for their family and caregivers. In this book, we'll provide practical tips for managing daily activities, including housework, cooking, and personal care. We'll also discuss how to manage stress, as stress can exacerbate CHF symptoms. Support from family and friends is crucial for patients with CHF, and we'll explore strategies for building a support network. Finally, we'll discuss the outlook for patients with CHF. While there is no cure for CHF, with proper management and treatment, many people can live for many years with this condition. In some cases, a heart transplant may be an option for those with severe CHF. We'll explore the criteria for a heart transplant and what patients can expect before, during, and after the procedure. In conclusion, living with CHF is a significant challenge, but with the right management and treatment, it is possible to live a fulfilling life with this condition. This book, "Living with Congestive Heart Failure: Your Ultimate Handbook for Overcoming This Condition," provides practical tips and information for managing CHF and living well with this condition. Whether you're a patient, a caregiver, or a healthcare provider, this book will provide valuable insights and guidance for navigating the challenges of CHF.

Download or read book Life to the Years written by Michael James and published by Morgan James Publishing. This book was released on 2018-04-17 with total page 269 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A cardiologist and his patient tell a true story of surviving and thriving, in a book both informational and inspirational. After Michael Ranville’s emergency treatment, his cardiologist told him: Given the nature and severity of your heart attack, you should no longer be with us. Statistically, you are dead. Now, the doctor and patient unite to present a unique story for the benefit of heart patients—or anyone who has a heart. A generation ago, heart patients rarely defied the statistical category that dictated a sedentary existence and an abbreviated life. But this is the tale of one patient who didn’t die. He continued to live, refused to take up membership in that statistical category. Under the thirty-year care of Dr. Michael James and a forward-leaning cardiac community, Michael Ranville and a host of other determined heart patients created a new statistical category. Life to the Years is also the lively, anecdote-laden story of a tenacious and resourceful cardiologist who helped Ranville seize control of life after heart disease. The authors illustrate the development of life-saving technology with fascinating stories that underscore the human element that still drives medicine. Life to the Years does not shy from the controversial, from the uncomfortable. A confrontation with mortality is the inevitable companion of heart disease. For the authors, the significance of dignity when faced with death—for both family and patient—is far from a theoretical discussion. This is a memoir that will both enlighten and encourage, and offer a behind-the-scenes look at a successful doctor-patient relationship.

Book Health Promotion in Health Care Vital Theories and Research

Download or read book Health Promotion in Health Care Vital Theories and Research written by Gørill Haugan and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-03-11 with total page 382 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This open access textbook represents a vital contribution to global health education, offering insights into health promotion as part of patient care for bachelor’s and master’s students in health care (nurses, occupational therapists, physiotherapists, radiotherapists, social care workers etc.) as well as health care professionals, and providing an overview of the field of health science and health promotion for PhD students and researchers. Written by leading experts from seven countries in Europe, America, Africa and Asia, it first discusses the theory of health promotion and vital concepts. It then presents updated evidence-based health promotion approaches in different populations (people with chronic diseases, cancer, heart failure, dementia, mental disorders, long-term ICU patients, elderly individuals, families with newborn babies, palliative care patients) and examines different health promotion approaches integrated into primary care services. This edited scientific anthology provides much-needed knowledge, translating research into guidelines for practice. Today’s medical approaches are highly developed; however, patients are human beings with a wholeness of body-mind-spirit. As such, providing high-quality and effective health care requires a holistic physical-psychological-social-spiritual model of health care is required. A great number of patients, both in hospitals and in primary health care, suffer from the lack of a holistic oriented health approach: Their condition is treated, but they feel scared, helpless and lonely. Health promotion focuses on improving people’s health in spite of illnesses. Accordingly, health care that supports/promotes patients’ health by identifying their health resources will result in better patient outcomes: shorter hospital stays, less re-hospitalization, being better able to cope at home and improved well-being, which in turn lead to lower health-care costs. This scientific anthology is the first of its kind, in that it connects health promotion with the salutogenic theory of health throughout the chapters. the authors here expand the understanding of health promotion beyond health protection and disease prevention. The book focuses on describing and explaining salutogenesis as an umbrella concept, not only as the key concept of sense of coherence.

Book excerpt: I'm not a medical physician nor do I have any extensive education on heart disease or congestive heart failure. I'm simply your everyday guy who found himself with a critical medical condition that if not treated correctly, could easily cost me my life. Congestive heart failure (CHF) is a very serious condition that shouldn't be ignored. Honestly, I can say when I was first informed of my condition; I wasn't' concerned about who else was suffering from this condition or other people's opinions. What was fresh in my mind was that my father died three months after being diagnosed with congestive heart failure. I know firsthand what a person experience when they are diagnosed and living with CHF. My objective with this book is not to only encourage you, but also share with you steps I took to improve my condition. Six months after being diagnosed with an ejection fraction of 30%, I received a surprising phone call from the RN who was responsible for monitoring my progress. She called me after my second echo Heart Scan test results and stated, "Mr. Westbrooks, I'm not sure what took place, but I'm happy to inform you that the Echocardiogram test results show that your heart's ejection fraction improved tremendously and you're no longer on our CHF monitoring program. My heart's ejection fraction improved from 30% to 50%. No one was able to convince me that I would be able to do this.

Download or read book The Breathless Heart written by Michele Emdin and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-11-25 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book systematically focuses on central sleep apneas, analyzing their relationship especially with heart failure and discussing recent research results and emerging treatment strategies based on feedback modulation. The opening chapters present historical background information on Cheyne-Stokes respiration (CSR), clarify terminology, and explain the mechanics and chemistry of respiration. Following a description of the physiology of respiration, the pathophysiology underlying central apneas in different disorders and particularly in heart failure is discussed. The similarities and differences of obstructive and central apneas are then considered. The book looks beyond the concept of sleep apnea to daytime CSR and periodic breathing during effort and contrasts the opposing views of CSR as a compensatory phenomenon or as detrimental to the failing heart. The diagnostic tools currently in use for the detection of CSR are thoroughly reviewed, with guidance on interpretation of findings. The book concludes by describing the various forms of treatment that are available for CSR and by explaining how to select patients for treatment.
