Book Operative Techniques and Medical Management of Liver Transplantation

Download or read book Operative Techniques and Medical Management of Liver Transplantation written by Duke Todd and published by American Medical Publishers. This book was released on 2023-09-19 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A liver transplant is a surgical procedure that involves the replacement of a diseased liver with a healthy liver received from a donor. It is used to treat conditions such as chronic or acute liver failure and hepatocellular carcinoma. Liver transplantation can be categorized depending on the type of donor and is broadly categorized into deceased donor liver transplants and live donor liver transplants. The most common procedure of liver transplantation is orthotopic liver transplantation (OLT). In this procedure, the original liver is removed followed by the replacement of the donor liver in the exact anatomic position. Whole organ is generally transplanted, however, segmental liver transplantation can also be done, which enables the transplantation of two recipients with a single cadaveric organ. Reduced grafts technique is commonly used for the cases having mismatch between the organ size of the recipient and the donor. This book outlines the operative techniques and medical management of liver transplantation in detail. A number of latest researches have been included to keep the readers up-to-date with the global concepts in this area of study. The book will prove to be immensely beneficial to students and researchers in this field.

Book Liver Transplantation and Hepatobiliary Surgery

Download or read book Liver Transplantation and Hepatobiliary Surgery written by Umberto Cillo and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2019-08-20 with total page 236 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the past, liver resections and liver transplantations were performed by different surgical teams, with very little interplay between the two. However, the evolution toward more complex operations called for an increasingly intense interaction between these surgical techniques: split liver and living donor liver transplantation have become popular in the transplant community, utilizing the Coinaud segmental anatomy in a very sophisticated way, while portal and arterial resection and reconstruction have become indispensable methods for treating Klatskin tumors infiltrating the hepatic hilum. This book offers a complete overview of the connections between liver transplantation and hepatobiliary surgery. It focuses on ex situ techniques for resection of tumors at the suprahepatic confluence, with or without venous reconstruction, and on total vascular exclusion of the liver with the aid of a venovenous bypass that should be a surgical option for referral centers in hepatopancreatobiliary surgery. By taking into consideration the development of minimally invasive liver surgery, it will introduce readers to a variety of new perspectives such as: vascular exclusion techniques with or without extracorporeal circulation, hemodynamic implications and lessons learned from liver transplant surgery, and technical details on pediatric transplantation and its informative role in modern biliary tract surgery.
