Book Coping with Life during the Thirty Years War 1618 1648

Download or read book Coping with Life during the Thirty Years War 1618 1648 written by Sigrun Haude and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2021-08-30 with total page 327 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: At its core, Coping with Life during the Thirty Years’ War (1618–1648) explores how people tried to survive the Thirty Years’ War, on what resources they drew, and how they attempted to make sense of it. A rich tapestry of stories brings to light contemporaries’ trauma as well as women and men’s unrelenting initiatives to stem the war’s negative consequences. Through these close-ups, Sigrun Haude shows that experiences during the Thirty Years’ War were much more diverse and often more perplexing than a straightforward story line of violence and destruction can capture. Life during the Thirty Years’ War was not a homogenous vale of gloom and doom, but a multifaceted story that was often heartbreaking, yet, at times, also uplifting.

Book Destruction and Creation

    Book Details:
  • Author : Mary Ann Mattoon
  • Publisher : Daimon
  • Release : 1999
  • ISBN : 3856305831
  • Pages : 640 pages

Download or read book Destruction and Creation written by Mary Ann Mattoon and published by Daimon. This book was released on 1999 with total page 640 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The 14th Congress for Analytical Psychology was held 23-28 August 1998 in the ancient city of Florence, Italy. The theme, 'Destruction and Creation: Personal and Cultural Transformations', is especially appropriate to the Italian setting, with that nation's history of destruction, both from nature and from human activity, and its tradition -- especially in Florence -- of creative individuals and institutions. The theme is fitting, also, to the context of Jungian psychology, with its emphasis on these and other pairs of opposites, with their integral role in psychic wholeness. Acknowledging, also, that destruction is indispensable to creation, some Jungians prefer the term 'creative unconscious' to the traditional 'collective unconscious'.

Book True and Living Prophet of Destruction

Download or read book True and Living Prophet of Destruction written by Nicholas Monk and published by UNM Press. This book was released on 2016-05-15 with total page 272 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cormac McCarthy’s work sounds warnings of impending apocalypse, but it also implies that redemption remains available. Nicholas Monk argues that McCarthy’s response to the modern world is more subtle and less laden with despair than many realize, and that his work represents an understanding of the world that transcends the political divisions of right and left, escapes the reductive nature of identity politics, and looks to futures beyond the immediately adjacent. He positions McCarthy as an acute chronicler of the American condition at the beginning of a new century. Tracing the development of modernity, Monk explores the associated political and philosophical undercurrents in McCarthy and identifies how they are generated and what they oppose. He focuses on language, aesthetics, violence, the spiritual, and the natural environment and the animals that inhabit it. He examines the experience of engaging with McCarthy’s fiction in order to reveal why so many people report that “reading Cormac McCarthy changed my life.”

Book Management Practice and Creative Destruction

Download or read book Management Practice and Creative Destruction written by Steven Segal and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-03-09 with total page 297 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How do managers and leaders know what to do when they are caught off guard or taken by surprise? How do they create when they do not know what to do next? These are challenges of an organizational world of existential uncertainty; one where the future does not conform to but challenges our expectations and assumptions. Steven Segal demonstrates that creating in a world of existential uncertainty requires a new understanding of the relationship between management inquiry and the lived experience of organizing. Using existential philosophy he demonstrates how moods of concern serve as a framework to integrate management theory and practice, thereby providing a framework for managers, management educators, and consultants to share a common framework. In a globalized free market characterized by unexpected disruptions management inquiry is not a science conducted from an objective distance. The book advocates an existentially reflexive and participant observer perspective to management inquiry. By participating in managing, a felt sense of being a manager develops. Through existential observation new ways of organizing are made possible. It is inquiry from within rather than from an objective distance. Such inquiry opens new doors and opportunities. Existential hermeneutic phenomenology and the free market phenomenon of creative destruction are linked to each other. The former provides a framework to work through the breakdown in conventions of organizing that occur in creative destruction.

Book Liberal Child Welfare Policy and its Destruction of Black Lives

Download or read book Liberal Child Welfare Policy and its Destruction of Black Lives written by James G. Dwyer and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-06-14 with total page 521 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How can we end the inter-generational cycle of poverty and dysfunction in the US's urban ghettos? This ground-breaking and controversial book is the first to provide a child-centered perspective on the subject by combining a wealth of social science information with sophisticated normative analysis to support novel reforms—to child protection law and practice, family law, and zoning— that would quickly end that cycle. The rub is that the reforms needed would entail further suffering and loss of liberty for adults in these communities, and liberal advocacy organizations and academics are so adult-centered in their sympathies and thinking that they reflexively oppose any such measures. Liberals have instead promoted one ineffectual parent-focused program after another, in an ideologically-driven quest for the magic pill that can save both adults and children in these communities at the same time. This `insider critique’ of liberal child welfare policy reveals a dilemma that liberals have yet to face squarely: there is an ineradicable conflict of interests between many young children and their parents, especially in areas of concentrated poverty, and one must choose sides. It is a must read for legal academics, political scientists, urban policy experts, as well as professionals working in social work, law, education, urban planning, legislative offices, and administrative agencies.

Book OUT OF ORDER The Self Destruction Of A Mainline Denomination

Download or read book OUT OF ORDER The Self Destruction Of A Mainline Denomination written by Powell Sykes and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2012-11-01 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 1927 American Presbyterians chose to stop listing and insisting upon "the essential tenets of the Reformed faith"; instead, they emphasized tolerance and essential action. Since then, historic, biblically based Christianity has been supplanted more and more by a different religion, dubbed Religious Liberalism by the author, within the largest Presbyterian denomination in the United States. This, coupled with decades of removing practical means of holding pastors accountable for any of their beliefs and much of their behavior, is leading to that denomination's demise in the early years of the 21st Century. The author combines historical overview and perspective with his own experiences as a pastor of Presbyterian churches in North Carolina to make his case.

Book The Self destruction of the West

Download or read book The Self destruction of the West written by Damien François and published by Editions Publibook. This book was released on 2007 with total page 582 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book The Ramblings and Correlations of an Intergenerational Mind

Download or read book The Ramblings and Correlations of an Intergenerational Mind written by Billie G and published by Austin Macauley Publishers. This book was released on 2023-05-26 with total page 285 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I grew up in Vancouver where I’ve run the gamut of alcoholism, addiction, dysfunction, and every other intergenerational effect around. I am a Heiltsuk, born in Bella Bella, BC. My name is Billie, and I am known on a popular social media site and from my childhood as Billie G. I am the sixth daughter of a handsome carver/fisherman and a beautiful mom who worked in the cannery in Namu, BC. I am a proud mom of four beautiful sons, Martin, Gregory, Miguel and Jamie. I am a grandmother, an aunt, a daughter and a niece, sister, cousin and friend. I had absolutely no idea why my people and I are so broken. I had no idea what intergenerational effects were until I went to college and then university. Before I had the privilege of earning an education, I had no idea why I’d led a life stagnant and laden with dysfunction or why I could not just ‘be healthy.’ I did not understand why I had to take the long rough and tough way around towards healing. I have since earned a Bachelor of Social Work degree from an indigenous perspective and I have learned a lot about me and my life and how I’ve been affected by intergenerational effects.I understand now why I am so stigmatized. I understand now who I am and where I come from. I have recognized not a lot of people, indigenous or otherwise, are unaware of what intergenerational effects are. I have correlated some effects with my life in hopes of giving more clarity in how they affect me and my people. These are my views, this is my understanding, and this is my life. These are The Ramblings and Correlations of an Intergenerational Mind.
