Book Little Theater Classics Vol 1 Classic Reprint

Download or read book Little Theater Classics Vol 1 Classic Reprint written by Samuel A. Eliot and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-01-29 with total page 306 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Little Theater Classics, Vol. 1 HE Little Theater Movement is a fact. It is, in the minds of many farsighted lovers of the theater, the most important fact in the theatrical situa tion in America to-day. It promises in the end to replace, in all our larger cities west of the Atlantic seaboard, the wasteful road-company method and the equally wasteful stock-company method of providing serious drama and theatric art to that part of our people which will not rest content with cheap shows or moving pictures. NO doubt, plays that are ex traordinarily well liked in New York will always later seek the West, and the stock managers will continue to present, in routine, inadequate fashion, at popular prices, the out-dated attractions of the commercial stage. But the primarily artistic theater, growing up in the community because the community needs, nourishes, and uses it, will more and more meet and satisfy the demand of drama-loving, art-loving theater goers for new, experimental, and beautiful things. Book Little Theater Classics Vol 2 Classic Reprint

Download or read book Little Theater Classics Vol 2 Classic Reprint written by Samuel Atkins Eliot and published by . This book was released on 2015-07-08 with total page 264 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Little Theater Classics, Vol. 2 With the return of peace and resumption of normal activities, the Little Theater Movement visibly revives and flourishes. It is less esoteric, more communal than it used to be. The Community Houses which will probably be erected everywhere in fitting memorial for those who died for democracy will normally include a stage: the theater has attained that degree of recognition in America. The art of the theater, though it still cannot be fostered and enjoyed on a profitable basis save when by a stroke of luck a play like Ervine's John Ferguson produced by the New York Theater Guild in May, 1919, meets unexpected, widespread public favor, yet finds ever-increasing interest and support. Not even in War's darkest days was its growth wholly checked; the Detroit Arts and Crafts Theater, the Provincetown Players in New York and Copeau's Theatre du Vieux Colombier, now lost to us once more in Paris, continued to pioneer and unfold new possibilities of drama and stagecraft. A yet more fervent discipleship among all who care for Art itself may be expected now, and consequently a more rapid, venturesome, and financially sustained progress should mark the next few years than signalized the movement's infancy in 1911-1918. Three of the plays in this second volume of our series were produced before the eclipse of 1918, - two of them in a good many little Theaters. Book The Anarchist Cookbook

Download or read book The Anarchist Cookbook written by William Powell and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2018-02-05 with total page 164 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Anarchist Cookbook will shock, it will disturb, it will provoke. It places in historical perspective an era when "Turn on, Burn down, Blow up" are revolutionary slogans of the day. Says the author" "This book... is not written for the members of fringe political groups, such as the Weatherman, or The Minutemen. Those radical groups don't need this book. They already know everything that's in here. If the real people of America, the silent majority, are going to survive, they must educate themselves. That is the purpose of this book." In what the author considers a survival guide, there is explicit information on the uses and effects of drugs, ranging from pot to heroin to peanuts. There i detailed advice concerning electronics, sabotage, and surveillance, with data on everything from bugs to scramblers. There is a comprehensive chapter on natural, non-lethal, and lethal weapons, running the gamut from cattle prods to sub-machine guns to bows and arrows.

Book Reading the Male Gaze in Literature and Culture

Download or read book Reading the Male Gaze in Literature and Culture written by James D. Bloom and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-10-06 with total page 230 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book examines the phenomenon of 'the male gaze', a concept which has spread beyond academia and become a staple of cultural conversations across disciplinary boundaries. Male gazing has typically been disparaged and even stigmatized as a reflection of misogyny and an instrument of objectification, often justifiably so. But as this book argues and illustrates, male gazing can also be understood as an illuminating, intellectually engaging, aesthetically compelling, and even politically progressive practice. This study recounts how the author’s own coming-of-an-age as a gazer became the basis for his long career teaching and writing about American fiction and poetry and poetry, canonical and contemporary, as well as about film, painting, TV, and rock-and-roll. It includes closely-reasoned analyses of work by James Baldwin, Rembrandt, Willa Cather, Philip Roth, Henry James, Charles Chesnutt, Bob Dylan, Robert Stone,Tim O’Brien, Edith Wharton, Theodore Dreiser, Frank O’Hara, Italo Calvino, John Schlesinger as well such cultural phenomena as the British Invasion of the 1960s, the Judgment of Paris in Greek mythology, the technology of seeing (kaleidoscopes, microscopes, telescopes) and the concept of 'objectification' itself.
