Book Little Pete s Plaid House

Download or read book Little Pete s Plaid House written by Dianna Forsythe and published by Page Publishing Inc. This book was released on 2022-04-12 with total page 25 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Little Pete is a sweet, simple snail who lives on the shady side of a farmhouse porch. Her real name is Holly, but her grandmother calls her “Little Pete.” She lives in a brown shell that is too big for her and also a bit drafty. Little Pete shares the porch with other snails who have beautifully colored shells and extra luxuries, such as running water, heat, and electricity. Little Pete’s brown shell was all she had, and she loved having her own house. But she soon learned the sad lessons of hatred, judgment, and criticism from living in a shell that did not fit in with the others. She suffered the sorrow of being bullied by the others. Then the other snails started having trouble with their own beautiful shells. They soon learned that Little Pete would keep them safe and warm and unafraid as she invited them to stay in her shell. They learned lessons of grace, forgiveness, love, and support. They learned that Little Pete had a hero’s heart. They learned that her love was pure and real. They learned not to judge a snail by her shell. This book was inspired by the belief that bullying can and should be addressed in early grades. Young learners will hopefully be encouraged to recognize what bullying is and understand in some way the sadness and helplessness it brings to the sufferer. This book was created to inspire learning of the concept of empathy, forgiveness, and generosity and to celebrate the differences that are unique to us all.

Book Duet with the Past

Download or read book Duet with the Past written by Daron Hagen and published by McFarland. This book was released on 2019-04-04 with total page 280 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Composer, conductor and operatic polymath Daron Hagen has written five symphonies, a dozen concertos, 13 operas, reams of chamber music and more than 350 art songs. His intimate, unsparing memoir chronicles his life, from his haunted childhood in Wisconsin to the upper echelons of the music world in New York and Europe. Hagen's vivid anecdotes about his many collaborators, friends and mentors--including Leonard Bernstein, Lukas Foss, Gian Carlo Menotti, Paul Muldoon, Ned Rorem, Virgil Thomson and Gore Vidal--counterpoint a cautionary tale of the sacrifices necessary to succeed in the brutally unforgiving business of classical music.

And then there’s a couple of old-time robbers named Slash and Pecos . . . Two wanted outlaws. One hell of a story. After a lifetime of robbing banks and holding up trains, Jimmy “Slash” Braddock and Melvin “Pecos Kid” Baker are ready to call it quits—though not completely by choice. Sold out by their old gang, Slash and Pecos have to bust out of jail and pull one last job to finance their early retirement . . . The target is a rancher’s payroll train. Catch is: the train is carrying a Gatling gun and twenty deputy US marshals who know they’re coming. Caught and quickly sentenced to hang, their old enemy—the wheelchair-bound, bucket of mean, Marshal L.C. Bledsoe—shows up at the last minute to spare their lives. For a price. He’ll let them live if they hunt down their old gang, the Snake River Marauders. And kill those prairie rats—with extreme prejudice . . .

Book Blood Brothers

Download or read book Blood Brothers written by Michael Weisskopf and published by Macmillan + ORM. This book was released on 2016-03-08 with total page 274 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This "expert piece of journalism by a brave man about brave men" follows three soldiers and a reporter through eighteen months on Ward 57, Walter Reed's amputee wing (The Washington Post) Time magazine's Michael Weisskopf was riding through Baghdad in the back of a U.S. Army Humvee when he heard a metallic thunk. Looking down, he spotted a small object inches from his feet and reached down to take it in his hand. Then everything went black. Weisskopf lost his hand and was sent to Ward 57 at Walter Reed Medical Center, the wing reserved for amputees. There he met soldiers Pete Damon, Luis Rodriguez, and Bobby Isaacs, alongside whom he navigated the bewildering process of recovery and began reconciling life before that day in Baghdad with everything that would follow his release. Blood Brothers is the story of this difficult passage—a story that begins with healthy men heading off to war, and continues through the months in Ward 57 as they prepare for a different life than the one they left. A chronicle of devastation and recovery, this is a deeply affecting portrait of the private aftermath of combat casualties.
